Description: While T'lin and K"don get some klah, their dragons chat.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 2 of Turn 9
"Hi there K'don. How is Maciath doing?" All the little dragonets were
growing so _fast_.
"Bah!" K'don jumped a foot into the air and nearly fell over. "Sorry.
Hi. Hello. Maciath is good. Are you good?"
}:I am well. And if I may be so bold as to say so, I am good,:{ said
Maciath with a grin obvious in his tone.
"Yes, he is good. And well. How are you?" asked K'don. "I wasn't
asleep," he added.
T'lin tried not to laugh and failed. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to
startle you."
"It's OK. I'm kinda jumpy right now. Probably just not enough hours in
the day to sleep," said K'don. He looked at T'lin. "You seem pretty
awake."
"For now," T'lin said with a chuckle. "Have you seen me first thing in
the morning? Or right after a meal? I'm surprised I haven't fallen
asleep on my feet."
"I probably have... but it's been kind of a blur since Hatching," said K'don.
}:If your friend is tired, can he not sleep?:{ asked Maciath.
"We can't sleep until the teachers say we can," said K'don to his
brown. "But you can. If you're sleepy."
"Are you saying that for my benefit? Or are you forgetting to talk to
him in your head?" T'lin said with a smile.
"Oh." K'don blinked. "I guess I just don't usually think about it.
That I shouldn't talk to Maciath out loud. Or. Maybe that not everyone
wants to hear that," he said. "I just talked to dragons out loud my
whole life." And they never spoke back before, even the ones who
really liked him. Not unless it was very important. "So I guess it's
just habit."
"Meanwhile, I'm used to talking to _myself_ in my head, so it was easy
to add a dragon in there."
}:Were you lonely with only yourself? That sounds very lonely.:{
**No, but I didn't know what I was missing, love.** T'lin sent
affection to his blue.
K'don smiled at T'lin. "Do we have time to get some klah? Do you want
some?" he offered. He wanted to take this time to get to know his
clutchmates better. K'don often felt he was acquainted with many
people but knew well comparatively few.
"I'd love some."
As K'don and T'lin headed to get their stimulant beverages, Maciath
took the opportunity to visit his clutchbrother.
}:Calaroth!:{ the big brown boomed cheerily. He trotted over and
extended a wing over the blue. }:How fare you and your good rider on
our road to flight and fight? I hope you give no mind to my rider's
oversight when it comes to asking after your health. He is weary.
Forgive him if you will.:{
Calaroth blinked. }:Oh, it does not bother me. It would be a lot if
everyone asked after my health all the time. We have many
clutchmates!:{
}:That we do!:{ agreed Maciath, bursting into laughter both in his
mind and in his true voice, a whuffing sort of draconic laughter.
}:Then I am pleased. Tell me of how you fare! I long to hear of your
thoughts.:{
}:My thoughts?:{ Calaroth sat on his haunches and tilted his head.
}:Well, I like to learn about all the things in the world. There are
so many! Like dolphins and flowers, and machines. Did you know my
rider makes machines?:{
}:Machines, workrigs... amazing. I can call back to my mind from
K'don's own bemindings a drawing of a... motor hinge? The spinner of a
drivework. This is a thing of wonder! And your rider knows the making
of such things?:{ Maciath laid out the course of his thoughts for
Calaroth to hear.
}:My rider was a learner of the workings of living things. Not like
blooms, but like dolphins... sea tumblers, shipfish.:{ Once again,
Maciath drew words to paint a picture of the things of which he spoke
from K'don's memories of the things.
}:Though maybe less like the sea tumblers than some other beasts, like
herd beasts and runner beasts. Beasts of the land, not the sea.:{
}:He seeks still to learn more of the life workings of dragons. To
heal us when we are sick or scathed,:{ the brown went on.
}:Will yours be a dragonhealer then?:{ Calaroth asked. }:That is a
very important job! And yes, mine knows how machines work. I do not
understand most of it, but it is very interesting. Mine is very
smart.:{
}:Yes, that is his will,:{ Maciath confirmed. He was quite impressed
with his rider's drive to be a boon to his fellows. It was part of
what drew them together. }:K'don is clever. Maybe not quite so bright
as your rider. But he seeks wisdom and strength with which to bolster
his kin and his folk. I weigh this heavily toward his goodwill. The
workrigs your rider has built aim for the same goal. This, too, is
heedworthy, indeed. We all have our own lot to fulfill:{
}:You use a lot of words.:{ Calaroth's eyes whirled with gentle amusement.
Maciath laughed again, just as heartily as before. }:So I do. So I
do.:{ He snuggled up to Calaroth's side and said, }:I will keep still
if you would like it better.:{
}:No, I do not mind. My rider says differences make people
interesting. I think that is true for dragons, too.:{
}:It takes all kinds to make a weyr!:{ said Maciath in agreement.
}:Our riders are also of unlike kinds themselves, yes? But they are
friends. They also fulfill one another in a way. They shield one
another's empty spots. You and I and our clutchsiblings do the same.:{
}:Mine has many friends,:{ Calaroth observed. }:I want many friends
too. Will you be my friend?:{
Maciath affectionately butted and rubbed his head against Calaroth.
}:Of course, we are friends!:{ he reassured his brother. }:I hope I
have done nothing to make you believe otherwise.:{
}:Oh no! But I thought it would be good to ask and make sure.:{
Calaroth warbled.
}:Fear not, my brother, for we will always be friends,:{ said Maciath gently.
