A call was sounded from the moment they came from /between/. Luneth,
shrieking in pain and confusion from the lack of response from her
rider could scarce be quieted. Her left wing was raw from the
threading, the bone and joint revealed in a gaping, blackened wound;
the other was bent awkwardly beneath her, revealing some damage that
could not yet be examine. Ninaine lay limply, still in her straps, her
head resting against a dorsal ridge. Blood streaked the side of her
head and down the hide of the dragon that had caught them, pooling
around her chin.
Luneth attempted to move, but shrieked in pain again, beginning to panic.
Chioneth had bolted from the weyrbowl and taken to the air to help
ferry in Luneth. Branth also hovered nearby but the queen and bronze
had it under control. Saibra and W'ser's figures showed up quickly
from where they'd been working in the dragon infirmary during the
'fall.
}:Calm yourself, Luneth,:{ Chioneth's firm tone commanded, consoling
the green. }:Your rider is being seen to and you will need attention
as well.:{
W'ser made quick work of cutting the riding straps from and pulling
Ninaine's limp form down as carefully as possible as the healers
hurried across the weyrbowl.
Jadirah heard the yell of one of the weyrbowl runners. She finished
binding the poultice to the arm of the rider she was treating and
looked up. She saw the wounded green being escorted down by a gold and
bronze pair of dragons. That looked bad. "Keep that on him till the
end of the Fall, then clean it off and bandage it with gauze. A
journeyman will be back with you by then," she directed to the
apprentice and the wounded brownrider.
She dipped her hands in redwort to sterilize them for the new patient
before took off at a dash towards the green and the figures that were
beginning to surround her. She recognized the Weyrwoman and the
Weyrdragonhealer, and gave both individuals a quick nod of
acknowledgement, knowing the green would be taken care of. The rider
was her responsibility now.
W'ser had freed the rider and Jadirah was there with a journeyman to
help get her onto a cot to be looked at. "Thanks for getting her out
the straps," she said.
The journeyman helped her get the rider around 20 feet away from the
dragon, close enough for the green to see her rider and far enough to
hopefully be out of range if she began to thrash. She then looked over
for a quick assessment. **Blood from the head, limp body...could be
unconsciousness, could just be dazed.**
"Clean up the head wound and see if there's any Thread marks on
her..." she said aloud as she used a wet piece of gauze to sponge the
blood.
Luneth keened, but her panic faded with the influence of Chioneth.
Her head tilted back with spasms of pain, her body shuddering with the
effort to move, but the injuries of her wings was too much. She
didn't speak to Chioneth in any comprehensible words, instead sending
out waves of intense agony with every movement.
Ninaine didn't move, but as Luneth keened, she moaned in response,
fingers twitching.
Luneth slumped wearily as she was maneuvered, whimpering in pain. Her
eyes followed the staff around her, begging for some sort of relief
from her agony, but also reaching out to her rider to beg silently for
her presence. As a sedative was given, she sighed, shuddering. There
was tinges of grey around her eyes and muzzle, and as she closed her
eyes, she finally found some measure of rest as the necessary herbs
finally forced her into sleep to allow the thorough examination.
W'ser and Saibra worked together in the dragon infirmary. The Weyr's
dragonhealer on one side, the Weyrwoman on the other. It was at times
like these that W'ser was glad that Saibra was also a dragonhealer, it
certainly made things easier.
"Torn sails, outer spar damage," he said this while feeling his way
along, dictating to a young journeyman who was taking down the notes,
"and definite joint damage that probably runs into the shoulder."
On her side Saibra was doing the same, calling her diagnosis to a
journeywoman, "Dislocated wing with a break in the midbone."
While the dragonhealers worked with Luneth, Jadirah treated Ninaine.
She noticed that the rider's fingers twitched, so something was
going on with her. Not completely comatose or unconscious, then. Good.
The apprentice with her took over sponging away the blood so Jadirah
could take a closer look. The head wound was bleeding profusely but as
the blood was cleared off, she could see that it appeared to be a long
scrape, if a deep one. There was no sign it went down to the bone, or
that the bone had been cracked to expose the brain underneath.
"Keep that sponged clean, we need to see," she warned the apprentice.
She pulled off the clothing she could free and was confronted with
some nasty bruising. With redworted hands she felt along Ninaine's
body. The right leg had been pinned, so she felt along it, feeling to
see if it seemed like the bone had broken and poked through.
Ninaine remained blessedly unconscious throughout both her and her
dragon's examination. As Luneth drifted into unconsciousness,
Ninaine's movement's ceased as well, both succumbing to the sedation
as was necessary.
