Tyselin slid into the seat next to A'vel. "So the _Weyrleader_, wow!"
He sighed. "What I wouldn't give..."
A'vel looked over at Tyselin, thrown off by the conversation's abrupt
beginning. "I'm sorry?" he asked, figuring it was more polite than
'what?'
"Your flight. Err, I guess I should have asked how it went. Everything
okay?" The greenrider had come to him to gain more sexual experience
to make his next flight easier. Apparently the first one had been
rough and Tyselin wondered if A'vel might have gone into it without
experience at all. Or at least not the right kind of experience.
That made a lot more sense. "This flight was embarrassing because the
Weyrleader, but it was pleasant enough." A'vel said, his features
flushing as he said it. "I wasn't hurt at all."
"That's great." Tyselin patted his shoulder. "I'm glad things were
better for you. But N'vanik... mmm, how can that be embarrassing? Oh,
I guess he is your Wingleader." Tyselin looked off into the distance,
picturing the Weyrleader naked in bed next to him.
"He's the Weyrleader, and my Wingleader, and he's been like a mentor
to me. Ever since my father was an absolute right jerk at Tsogath's
hatching, he's been around for me. And then suddenly I woke up _naked_
next to him." There were a lot of reasons why A'vel had been
embarrassed.
"Oh, a kind of father-figure then." Tyselin wrinkled his nose. "That
would make things awkward. Tell you what, I'll switch places with you
next time. Just sneak into the flight room. No one will know the
difference." He winked.
If that would only work, A'vel would _gladly_ let Tyselin do it for
him. that would be so simple... "I keep telling Tsogath, pick blue. Or
at least not anyone with rank!" But then that might lead to J'ackt
again.
"For your sake, I hope she listens." Tyselin burned to ask what the
Weyrleader was like, but riders didn't remember much of flights and
the poor greenrider was obviously uncomfortable about it. "You know,
if you want help clearing your head after a flight, I'm available for
that too."
"Clearing my head?" A'vel echoed, puzzled.
He was so innocent it was sort of endearing. "Taking care of the
leftover flight lust."
"Oh. I thought you just went home and took a cold bath." That's what
he'd been doing, anyway. "I mean I knew the girls congregate around
the cots to take some of the losing riders but that's right then and
there and not later."
"Oh you poor thing." Tyselin sighed. "Well, I mean, some people prefer
that, and that's perfectly alright. But lots of people seek out a
lover or a friend, or even just a casual partner if the other rider
doesn't want another round, for whatever reason. It's less intense,
from what I hear, but there's still a lovely heightened energy to it."
Tyselin was being so frank about things that A'vel decided to just ask
a question he'd been wondering for awhile. He seemed like he'd answer,
and he wouldn't be offended if he chose not to.
"So I remember that everyone feels gold flights. But what about green
ones? Do you ever get anything off of those? They rise so often that
it must not affect people or else would anyone get anything done?"
"Oh yeah, we feel that too, but it's not as intense and most people
pretty much ignore it. Takes a little getting used to, though."
Tyselin laughed. "When I first got here it made things, uh...
interesting." Getting a sudden flare of arousal in the middle of
chores or a class was distracting, to say the least.
"I thought maybe I was too young or too uninterested to notice at
first," A'vel said. He'd tried to tune out flights when the Hall was
at the weyr because his father and the masters had all ordered it.
"And now I think Tsogath blunts it for me," he added. "It's bad enough
when she rises."
"It affects people differently. New arrivals and visitors can get hit
hard. And people going through puberty, with the spike in hormones and
all."
A'vel pondered that for a moment. "It's pretty bizarre, when I think
about it. Getting someone else's pants feelings in your own head just
because a dragon does its business? I understand why most holders
can't understand it at all."
Tyselin laughed. "What a way to put it! I guess I found it a little
strange at first, but I just accepted that things were different at
the Weyr and went along with it."
"You were holdbred?" A'vel couldn't imagine it, Tyselin seemed so _comfortable_.
"Yeah. I came here to apprentice instead of the Hall because it would
be better for me, what with me being into boys."
"Oh, so you knew then?" A'vel was impressed. He hadn't known - or
maybe he hadn't _wanted_ to know and had shut it off, is what he
realized.
"I'm sorry, I'm being inquisitive," he apologized. "I swear this isn't
an interrogation. You're just so forthright."
Tyselin put an elbow on the table and rested his head on his hand.
"Feel free to inquisit me all you like," he said with a smile.
A'vel coughed as he was taking a sip of klah. "I wish I'd been brave
enough to ask these things when I was here with the Hall."
"Or in your weyrling classes?" Tyselin teased.
"I would have fainted if I had to ask this to a teacher in front of my
whole class," A'vel said.
Faranth, the greenrider was so shy and innocent. "You could have asked
_after_. But that's okay. I'm here now, for all of your questioning
needs."
"I was really unprepared for this," A'vel admitted. "But I'm trying to
get better. Really."
"Is that a hint that you're ready for more practice?" Tyselin wiggled
his eyebrows.
There was still a part of A'vel that thought, 'I shouldn't', but it
was outweighed by a part saying, 'I should'. Whether it was because he
was aiming to better perform his duty to Tsogath, or whether it was
curiousity about sex as pleasure, he wasn't quite sure.
"It's me saying that," he said.
Tyselin was pleased to hear that. "Should I come to your weyr tonight?"
If Tyselin came to his weyr then he couldn't get away if he panicked -
but A'vel was sure if he got nervous the other man would back off.
"Sure," he said, swallowing back his nerves and managing a smile. "I
look forward to it."
