N'vanik

N'vanik

The touch of a warm hand was soothing, and A'vel instinctively relaxed
into it, even though another jolt of worry ran through him when
N'vanik spoke.

"Uh-" His voice cracked and pitched up high on the syllable, thanks to
his nerves. He cleared his throat a little and tried again. "I'm
alright," he managed, because it was accurate. He was embarrassed but
that wasn't injured.

"Good. I hope I wasn't too rough." N'vanik also hoped A'vel wouldn't
start avoiding him. What he needed to do was reassure A'vel as much as
possible, try to make him see that this was normal. N'vanik kept
running his hand up and down A'vel's back.

Was he hurt? He couldn't just _lie_ to the Weyrleader. A'vel stretched
out his legs and thought. No, he just felt...the good sore, like after
that practice with the one Candidate...

"I don't believe I need the Healers,"

"Good. Is Tsogath okay?" Loseth was sound asleep, happily curled
around his green mate and N'vanik didn't want to wake him to ask.

He used the concentration as an excuse to keep his eyes shut. "She's
very tired and happy. She really likes Loseth," he said.

N'vanik chuckled. "He likes her too. Not surprised he chased her twice
already."

As A'vel's brain was fishing itself out of flightlust, the
implications of Tsogath looking up to Loseth were hitting and he felt
horrified. What if he kept winning? What if it meant he had to see
N'vanik all the time? Oh shards he'd been naked with the Weyrleader
and they'd had flight sex... he'd interacted the Weyrleader's - and
he'd liked it this time!

How was he supposed to un-know this? He stayed silent as he thought about it.

With a warm body pressed against him, N'vanik was really starting to
wish A'vel was a woman. Oh, shards. "You know this kind of thing
happens all the time in the Weyr, right? I know some people never
adjust but most of us know flights happen and we just move on."

N'vanik sounded so matter-of-fact about it all. But he was a
bronzerider - someone who was more suited to gold flights, not
something like this.

"I'm not used to waking up with anyone at all," A'vel said after a
moment. "This is still new to me and I don't understand how you can be
relaxed when you're a _bronzerider_ and everyone knows what that
means. Isn't this...I mean..."

The Weyrleader laughed. "Flights are flights and I _love_ winning.
Sure it's more fun with a pretty woman afterwards, but otherwise I
don't really care. Not unless the other rider is mean or smelly or has
a bad reaction. I've even, uh...." He caught himself, wondering if he
should put that kind of information in A'vel's head.

"The weyrlingmasters said people had to be polite or they'd be in
trouble but in my class some of the brownriders sounded pretty
unhappy..." His voice trailed off as he thought about it.

"Bad reaction like...slaps you?"

"Or cries. I was kinda worried you might do that," N'vanik said.

If A'vel was going to cry, he'd do it in his own weyr. "If it was
possible to melt into the floor, that might have happened," he
admitted.

"And yet you're still cuddled against me." N'vanik hoped a little
teasing wouldn't hurt.

His body was enjoying the weight of N'vanik being right there. A'vel
could either get more embarrassed by that - if that was even possible
- or he could try to laugh it off, just like he'd laughed off all the
teasing in the Hall.

"Well, sir, my legs are numb."

And he was concealing a reaction, but no need to mention _that_.

"Is that a nice way of telling me to move my big arse?" N'vanik
laughed and sat up, brushing his hair out of his eyes. He belatedly
realized the new position made his arousal obvious and froze. Would
turning away send the wrong message? Or would it save A'vel from more
embarrassment?

Since he was already making jokes, it was easy to say, "I wouldn't say
your arse is big - more like - your legs," he hastily filled in,
deciding he did _not_ want to make a comment on the Weyrleader's
privates. "Were on mine and made them numb, I mean."

Faranth, if it was only a _girl_ being this adorably awkward. That
thought didn't help the residual dragonlust _at all_. N'vanik slid out
of bed as casually as he could manage with his body demanding another
round. "You need to have a chat with Tsogath about letting a nice blue
catch her next time." He glanced around for his clothes and of course
he found his shirt first, which wasn't going to solve anything.

"I did, but she _likes_ bronzes," A'vel said. "Maybe she thinks she's a
gold."

He spotted a pair of pants on the floor, too large to be his. In
getting up to get them he exposed himself and blushed a little. "Uh,
here," he said, tossing them over.

N'vanik caught them and took a deep breath. "Dragonlust sure can mess
with your head." He pulled his pants on and awkwardly, uncomfortably
stuffed himself into them. "Oh, here's yours." He tossed the smaller
set of pants to A'vel. "Thanks for a good flight."

"Thanks for being alright about it all," A'vel returned awkwardly,
figuring that was the best thing he could say. "I'll see you
tomorrow."

N'vanik made a note that he wouldn't mention the flight unless A'vel
brought it up first. "See you tomorrow." With his remaining clothing
tucked under his arm, N'vanik left the flight room.
