Wind and Thread, and Timing exhaustion.
He didn't remember anything as the climbed painfully out of the
darkness. There were voices around and slowly his mind cleared and he
remembered the awful moment when the strap parted and he hadn't been
quick enough to save himself.
It was his own fault and he couldn't shift the blame. N'vanik had
warned him and so had Saibra.
He moved just to adjust his position and his shoulder and back
screamed. "Arrrr," he groaned.
"Take it easy, R'ehn" Aishara said gently. She was sitting next to his
bed, holding one of his hands between hers. Still wearing her flight
leathers, she smelled of firestone, Thread ash, sweat and dragon. She
had been sitting there since the healers had stopped working on him.
Ayumith was with Mnoranth.
"Aishara," he said trying to open his eyes and gently squeezed the
hand holding his. "How long have I been out?" This time he didn't try
to move but simply held still so he didn't cause that stab of pain to
return.
"Long enough. Long enough for me to finish my part of the Fall and
cause us all concern," Aishara replied and tried blink away the tears.
She was so relieved to see him back to consciousness.
"Oh sweetie," R'enh said. "I'm sorry I worried you." He lifted his
good hand from between hers to cup the side of her face. "Don't cry."
"I try not to. You gave a good scare," Aishara replied and tried to dry her eyes. It was hard not to cry when she thought how close call it had been. "How are you feeling. The healers left me some fellis-juice and instructions how to use it."
Blue eyes observed the tender interaction from the split in the privacy curtain. Saibra's chest rose and fell in a quiet pant from where she'd tossed herself from Chioneth's neckridge and ran across the weyrbowl. The look in R'enh's eyes as he looked up at Aishara was a look that Saibra had only ever seen when he was addressing _her_, to see it directed at someone else was... More than she could bear.
She'd always known about Aishara, they were riders after all, but _seeing_ the connection that R'enh had with another woman unnerved her, because Saibra had been lulled into thinking that there was something special that he shared only with her. Brushing tears from her cheeks, Saibra turned quietly and made her way back out to Chioneth.
}:Leaving so soon?:{ Chioneth questioned in a puzzled tone.
**Yes. Take me back to Dragonsfall.** Saibra pulled herself up onto her lifemate's neckridge. **Dragonsfall and the people there are my home now. I need to remember that.** There was nothing for her at Dolphin's Cove.
"I've felt better," he let his hand drop back on the bed never knowing they'd been observed. "Some of that fellis might be a good idea though."
"Don't do that ever again," Aishara scolded tenderly and freed her hand to reach out the fellis mug.
"Yes ma'am," he smiled and tried to remain as still as possible while he sipped.
Aishara reached to support him.
He got it down and began to feel the foggy effects almost immediately. "Thanks," he said and lay back down. "You should get cleaned up but come back later," he tried to smile. "I'll be out for awh...." he didn't get a chance to finish the thought but sank into a drugged oblivion where nothing hurt and nothing else mattered.
Yes, she needed bath and food and to tend Auymith, but right now Aishara couldn't care less about herself. She was happy he was alive.
