Description: The Weyrleader talks to the Weyrdragonhealer.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 28 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya, Briata
The Weyrdragonhealer was pretty high up on K'ran's list of 'important
River Bluff riders to meet'. So when there was a moment to catch his
breath and deal with all the other issues, the bronzerider had Rogueth
send a word to the other dragon.
}:Is your rider available for a meeting? Mine says he can meet yours
either in the dragon Infirmary or in the office.:{ the bronze relayed.
A moment later Aughashyth relayed his riders reply. }:Mine says half a
candle mark and he will come to your office. He's in the middle of a
class.:{
Indeed, Y'gel was in the middle of orienting a new batch of candidates
that had recently arrived at the Weyr in anticipation of the upcoming
clutch. He wrapped the session and let the Journeyman with him finish
up the questions and answers so he could go and meet with the new
Weyrleader.
It was an odd feeling having someone totally unknown as the new
Weyrleader. Things at Riverbluff had always been fairly stable with a
few exceptions but he'd heard some good things about K'ran.
He leaned his large frame into the doorway with a smile. "You wanted to
see me?"
"I did. Please, take a seat. I hope your class went well. I'm trying
to get to know everyone important," K'ran said.
"Well that makes me feel good," Y'gel grinned taking the offered seat.
"Your job matters," K'ran stated. "I figured I'd like to get to know
you. I don't plan on making any major changes. I figure River Bluff
has enough to get used to with me coming in to suffer serious
shakeups."
Y'gel simply nodded not quite sure what to think. The man was awfully
serious, he hadn't smiled once since he'd walked into the room. So he
simply smoothed his expression to one of polite attention. "Alright,"
he said. "I was raised at Jade Harbor and became a healer there. As a
journeyman I traveled here to Riverbluff and it was while I was here
that I Impressed. I switched to Dragonhealing after Aug was injured in
a training accident. Rose through the ranks."
So he'd spent time outside of a Weyr environment, and then switched to
dragonhealing. The experience with humans might be old but was
interesting, he thought it counted as a plus. "And you're happy with
the job, don't feel overworked?"
Y'gel shook his head. "No more than any other leader in the Weyr," he
smiled knowing his comment would hit the other bronzerider where he
lived now. "We do what is necessary for the Weyr and the people we
protect and serve. How about you? Are you overwhelmed yet? Anything I
can help you with?"
"Getting used to responding when people call Weyrleader," K'ran said
with a laugh. It was something he needed to get used to, for sure.
"But seriously, adjusting to all of the new people and slightly
different ways of doing things. I'm flexible, I'll handle it, but
remembering who's who and what their strengths are will take a bit."
"All you need is a little time. But I'm always available and in
addition to our youngest goldrider Lanniya, my weyrmate is also HAD so
she can let me know if you have any questions." He tilted his head.
"You should meet Briata. Maybe dinner in my weyr when you're free of
other obligations?"
"I didn't know there was more than one Hear's All here. I think that
would be wonderful," K'ran said sincerely.
His eyes unfocused and just like that Aughashyth was relaying the
message to Briata. "Dinner will be ready just before sundown," he
smiled. He didn't add the 'eep' of surprise nor the scolding to give
her more warning before inviting over the new Weyrleader. "Just a
warning," he grinned. "We have small children."
"That's fine, I like children. Though I've never had any of my own," he said.
"Well then," Y'gel smiled and the inevitable dimple carved his cheek.
"It's all good. We'll see you for dinner."
