Ciara's eyes unfocused for a moment and then she quickened her step.
She set the tray of food down next to K'sedel's cot.
"K'deren is coming. I guess Nickornath was louder than we thought and
Panitath heard him."
"He is?" K'sedel tried to ease himself up into a sitting position.
"Yes," she said in confirmation. "Panitath just told Ellianith that
Donneth would be soon on his way here." She reached out to shift some
of the pillows behind him and help as best she could before putting
the lunch tray on his lap.
"But it's," Ksedel paused, "late at Dolphin Cove."
She smiled and shook her head. "You're his father Kes. You got injured
in a 'fall." She wasn't surprised in the least in fact she was rather
gratified that at least one of his kin was making the effort.
"That's good." After a moment, "Is it just him?" There was a chance K'deren
might have brought one of his siblings with him.
"I'm not sure," she shook her head. "But I imagine they'll all show up
sooner or later," she chuckled.
"I'm sure Akessa and Meredel will persuade him to bring them soon, if they
aren't with him now."
She smiled and smoothed a hand over his hair. "You'd better eat love,"
she said softly. "Before your entire tribe shows up and overwhelms the
healers."
"And they will." K'sedel, reached for the plate, with a sandwich on it. "So
time to follow Healer's orders then."
She heard voices and smiled. "Well here comes someone."
"Da!" K'deren called out, feeling like a small boy again, so relieved to see
his father. "Are you okay?"
"I'm going to be fine," K'sedel managed, as he put the sandwich back. "My
shoulder hurts, and I have a headache to rival the worst ever hangover, but
apart from that."
"He's got concussion," Ciara said repressively. K'sedel wasn't going
to be able to downplay his injuries with her in the room.
"So no flying for a while then." K'deren sounded a little reassured that his
father was going to be okay. "How's Nikornath?"
Ciara once again didn't pull any punches. "According to Y'gel it's a
wing strain. He caught the green wrong but luckily they all lived."
What she didn't say was that Orlaith was due to rise any time and this
could mean to his future.
The unsaid words were clear enough for K'deren. but the main thing was that
his father was still here. "Will your 'second be able to cope?" he asked
aloud. "He's very young."
"F'lin will cope," K'sedel said. "He's smart enough to ask for help if he
needs it."
Ciara smiled at her weyrmate as once again there was a bit of
commotion in the corridor.
"Thanks for waiting for us," Akessa said from the doorway and punched
her brother in the arm as she passed him. "I had to hitch a ride." She
crossed to their father and leaned over to give him a kiss. "How are
you feeling?"
Meredel wasn't far behind his sister and punched K'deren in his other
arm with a grin and rounded the other side of the bed. "Hey pops," he
said with concerned eyes.
"I came in rather a hurry," K'deren protested as he let his siblings in to
see their father. "I'd have brought you tomorrow."
"Yeah I know," he smiled at his elder brother. "But we wanted to come now."
"I'm sorry," K'deren knew that this wasn't really the time or place for a
sibling spat, friendly or not. Their father had been hurt, and naturally
they were concerned, and perhaps he had taken off in a bit of a hurry.
K'sedel meanwhile was feeling a little overwhelmed by the sudden rush of
attention. "I'm going to be fine," he assured his elder children. "Really,
the healers say so."
"Glad to hear it," Akessa said, but her eyes found Ciara with a
question in them.
Ciara lifted a brow and a shoulder slightly. He was going to be fine
physically but what about all the rest. Unless something happened to
delay Orlaith's flight, their lives were going to change radically and
she wasn't sure how K'sedel was going to deal with it. But she shook
that off and smiled at all three of her Weyrmates children. "Yes he
will," she agreed.
"And that's good to hear," K'deren said. "Because we all need to know that."
