N'vanik

D'hol knocked on the open door frame, his face impassive as he held
the hides in his hand. "I've the monthly reports, N'vanik." He had
been nothing more than coolly civil since Panitath's mating flight and
had said nothing outside of the necessary to the man since he had
found him in his weyr with Jeyme.

N'vanik held back a sigh. If D'hol wasn't storming around the place,
he was sulking. "Thanks. You can just leave them on the corner there."
He pointed to a cleared space on his desk.

D'hol approached and laid the reports on the desk, then inclined his
head before turning to leave. Let him go and avoid a fight, or lay it
out there? D'hol might get over it, or he might let it fester. N'vanik
rested his arms on the desk. "Are you gonna be like this every time I
visit the kid? Or is this really about me and Cyradis?"

D'hol stopped immediately, his back stiff before turning slowly. "My
son's name is Dheymin, not "the kid". " His voice was cool and
surprisingly calm. "And I agreed to let you visit him, though I did
state that you were not to come to my weyr, which you ignored. It's no
matter now. Jeyme will do as she feels best. And as for you and
Cyradis..." He rolled his shoulder in a shrug. "It's done. "

"We're friends and we make a good team. And you _do_ know Cyradis has
a weyrmate. So do you." Did D'hol think he could win Cyradis back
somehow?

He wasn't telling him anything he didn't already know. "Kindly get to
the point."

Now N'vanik did sigh. "You act like this is personal. I'm not out to
get you or steal your women or whatever weird notion you've gotten
into your head. If I _was_ out to get you, I'd tell you. To your
face." He'd done that to plenty of people.

D'hol just looked at him for a long moment before speaking, his voice
flat. "I don't like you N'vanik. I'm not required to as long as I do
my duty, which I do. "

Flame it. N'vanik was tired of playing nice. "Jeyme deserves so much
better. I hope she finds someone that really respects her."

That made D'hol visibly react; his eyes narrowed sharply. "Someone
like you, perhaps? My relationship with my weyrmate is none of your
business."

"It's not my business, but I worry about her. She's a sweet girl and I
think you treat her like crap." At least last time N'vanik had
visited, Jeyme showed some backbone. So maybe she did stick up for
herself.

D'hol's narrow gaze turned to a glare. "You know nothing."

"I see the way you treat her when I'm there. If that's the way you
treat her in front of other people..."

"My relationship with Jeyme is absolutely none of your concern,
N'vanik. Stay out of it. " His voice was sharp and snapping. "If you
don't like to see me with her, then stay the blazes away from her.
Simple."

"She's not your property. You don't get to control her life or who she
spends her time with. You don't get to make her feel bad for showing
me a little bit of kindness while _you_ mope about not bedding
Cyradis." It was selfish and gross.

D'hol's face went utterly cold and a rage flickered in his eyes. "You
go too far, N'vanik." His hand clenched into a fist and before he lost
his temper completely, he turned on his head and strode out of the
door.

N'vanik made a rude gesture at his back. Well, he'd hit a nerve.
Hopefully D'hol wouldn't take this out on Jeyme.
