Description: Another clutch.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 17 of Turn 8
Cyradis had a spoonful of soup halfway to her mouth when the imperious
voice of her lifemate sounded in her mind.
}:Come now!:{ came along with a picture of the hatching ground in the
half light of dusk.
"Oh boy," she said and finished ladling the soup into her mouth.
"She's started laying," She said as she blotted her lips with her
napkin and then scooted her chair away from the meal. "I have to go
or she'll get very cranky," she added but picked up the hot bowl with
the napkin and prepared to carry it with her down the long passage
from their weyr into the hatching grounds.
**On my way dearest**
}:Loseth's is already here,:{ the gold told her petulantly. }:Why are
you so slow?:{
"Sorry," she called down the passage and picked up her pace in the
semi-darkness.
N'vanik smiled as she came in. "Panitath invited us. Either she really
likes us or she's trying to make you feel guilty for not running the
second she called you."
"A bit of both," Cyradis smiled. "And maybe I'm supposed to realize
that eating is not as important as her labor." She held up the bowl of
hot soup. "But I just couldn't waste this. Chaysea outdid herself. You
have to try it."
She set the bowl of onion soup in bovine broth on the bench and went
to greet Panitath and tell her how wonderful she was.
N'vanik studied the bowl for a moment before taking a spoonful and
tasting it. "That is pretty good." He'd eaten not long ago so he
didn't take more, but maybe he'd get some later when he was hungry.
>From a ledge near the huge golden Queen, Loseth crooned to his mate.
}:You are lovely and our hatchlings will be lovely.:{
Panitath's eyes whirled happily at all the praise and attention and
Cyradis turned from the gold with a grin. She walked back to where
N'vanik waited. "There are already two eggs. I guess she meant it when
she said come now."
"She didn't give you much warning." N'vanik settled back on the bench.
"This never gets old, does it?" Two little eggs glistened on the Sands
and soon there would be more.
Picking up her soup she sat close to her Weyrleader and leaned against
him. "It never does," she smiled.
He smiled back and nudged her gently. "Eat your soup before it gets cold."
}:I'm glad you let me watch,:{ Loseth understood that not all golds
did. }:It's wonderful.:{
Cyradis ladled the last of the delicious soup into her mouth and set
the bowl aside. Then she tucked her feet up under her skirt and
watched. "How many is that now? Twelve?"
Panitath's eyes whirled happily. }:You fly well, and mine likes
yours.:{ She was happy with her choice and Loseth was an attentive
mate. }:There's another,:{ she said as she deposited one on the sands
next to it's clutch mates. She peered at it momentarily and adjusted
the sand with a single claw before she moved slightly to make room for
the next one.
Loseth gave a pleased rumble.
"Thirteen." N'vanik wrapped an arm around Cyradis's waist. Loseth's
happiness washed over him as each precious little egg was laid on the
Sands.

Hours later she got up from her comfortable seat next to N'vanik and
looked carefully counting one more time. "I think she's done," she
turned and smiled. "Thirty Three very nice sized eggs," she nodded.
Hunching her shoulders and squeezing her hands together she yawned.
"Perfectly respectable, and now both of you can get some much needed rest."
}:You did well, my lovely mate.:{ Loseth's eyes whirled with pride as
he gazed down at the gold and their eggs.
Panitath preened at Loseth's praise while a wing hovered over the oh
so delicate eggs she was now protecting. }:I'm hungry,:{ she
complained. }:Can you bring me a snack?:{
"Well," Cyradis yawned. "Thank you for staying with me." She smiled at
N'vanik. It had been a long night for both of them.
}:I will bring you the very fattest herdbeast.:{ Loseth hurried obey.
N'vanik went over to give her a quick hug. "Thank you, too."
