Alina

It was a beautiful day when Panitath announced it was time for her bath. **Alright I'm coming,** she chuckled and took Kendran to his foster mother though she'd planned on spending time with her son this restday.

She trotted down to the lake in time to see the big gold coming out of it dripping.

}:She is so lovely!:{ Imarith's eyes were whirling and the weyrling green was clearly besotted with the queen bathing nearby. }:Her hide is so shiny and her wings are so large. Maybe mine will grow?:{ She spread hers, nearly knocking her rider off-balance and into the water.

Alina teetered for a moment on her dragon's haunches before slapping Imarith lightly with her scrub brush. **Stop that. You know I can't swim!**

}:It's not so deep. I bet you could stand.:{ The green sighed and turned her attention back to the queen dragon. }:I wonder if she would sit with me?:{

**Probably not. Panitath likes to spend more time with bronzes. Let's not bother her.** Alina returned to scrubbing Imarith's hide with the soft-bristled brush. They were both feeling a little scorched after the day's lessons, and Alina was not enjoying the sticky-sweaty feeling of wet fabric against her skin. Although the bathing cavern wasn't as bad as it used to be, she still couldn't bring herself to wear the skimpy nothings that most of the dragonriders favored when they went to the lake-- or worse, the ocean. Instead she wore a tunic that clung unpleasantly to her torso, and breeches that stuck to her legs in an unseemly fashion.

Both Panitath and Cyradis were always aware of weyrlings around them. In fact, Panitath was more than just a little interested. She swung
her head around to peer at the tiny green. }:You're a very pretty color of green:{ she said gently.

}:I am! I am a pretty colour of green!:{ Imarith said gleefully, stretching her wings. Panitath had said _she_ was pretty! The weyrling dragon was almost dizzy with excitement.

Cyradis turned and ducked under the big gold to get a closer look. Sympathy for the girl rose in her when she saw the clothes she was wearing trying to bathe her dragon. She herself wore a loose sleeveless shift that fell to her knees. It was just easier than what the greenrider had chosen. "Hi," she smiled. "I"m Cyradis."

Alina squeaked and nearly dropped her brush, then nearly fell off her dragon as Imarith continued to preen. **What did you do!?**

}:Panitath says that I am a pretty colour of green!:{

**Did you bother her?! Why did you bother her! Now the Weyrwoman talking to me!** Alina hastily scrambled off Imarith's back into the water and managed a very awkward, half-submerged curtsey. "Weyrwoman. Hello. What can I do for you?"

Cyradis had to choke back laughter and couldn't quite keep it out of her voice when she asked. "Are you alright?" She turned her eyes to where Panitath had stretched out her neck to touch noses with the little weyrling.

"Yes, ma'am. Very. Are you?" Alina flushed as soon as the last part came out of her mouth. Of all the stupid things to say...! **How does Ikalis talk to her all the time!?**

"I am," Cyradis said gently. "You look a little uncomfortable in those clothes," she said. "I don't care for some of the outfits the others wear, but this is my own design she looked down at her knee length, sleeveless A line shift "It's simple and keeps everything I want private... private."

Alina looked down at herself, suddenly ashamed of what she was wearing. No matter what, it seemed as if she couldn't fit in. She was wearing _trousers_ and they weren't right... or comfortable when wet, like the Weyrwoman had pointed out. But there was no way she'd prance around next-to-naked like most of the Weyrfolk did. Cyradis' outfit did look more comfortable, but if her experience with tunics in water was any indication, the hemline would be floating up around her ears in no time. "I see."

"Yeah," Cyradis turned and reached up to scrub the side of a long gold neck. "I don't like to swim so much. Though that means I have to climb more or use a long wand to get the higher places. Usually there are more candidates about to help."

"I... don't actually know how to swim," Alina said after a moment. "But Imarith is so much smaller, so it's not so bad."

Cyradis smiled as she turned. "I'm sure they'd teach you if you want." She'd recognized the discomfort in the girl so had tried to lessen the intensity of her own character which she freely admitted could be a little overwhelming at times. "She is quite lovely though," she said looking at the little green. Then looked up as a brown flit came sailing in with a chirrup to land on Panitath's head and begin his own washing with a tiny sponge. "'Bout time you showed up," she grinned. "That's Shadow," she said. "He sometimes helps," she acknowledged but then leaned a little forward with her hand by her mouth to add in an undertone, "but he's very unreliable."

"Ah." Alina hid a smile, charmed by the flit in spite of herself. Flits had always been a wonder, but now that she had a dragon of her own she couldn't help but marvel at their tiny claws and delicate wings. "Is he yours, Weyrwoman?"

"Yes," she smiled "But don't tell him that. He thinks it's the other way around."

"Does he?" Alina made a face. "I can't imagine Panitath likes that very much."

"Oh she tolerates him, and he worships her of course." Shadow began a flirting dance around the little green. "Seems he likes your Imarith as well."

Imarith bobbed her head as she tried to follow the flit's flight, her eyes a brilliantly happy blue-green as she made a rumbling sound, which Alina thought might be an attempt at a trill. }:He is so tiny!:{

**Stop that! You're acting like you've never seen a flit before!** Alina tried not to roll her eyes. It was a good thing that she couldn't help but love her dragon with all her heart. Imarith was so embarrassingly silly sometimes. "Um. I guess so, although I'm not sure why. Panitath won't be jealous, will she?" she suddenly asked, nervous for her silly dragon.

Shadow landed on Imarith's head crooning to the green as he kneaded her eyeridges and peered into one happy eye from where he clung to her headknobs and leaned upside down. A tiny brown flit croon warbled to the young green.

~~fish fish, finding fish~~

The pictures flashed in her mind of the brown fishing and offering his catch to the green.

Cyradis pinched the bridge of her nose in a vain attempt to stifle the laugh bubbling up. "No," she reassured the young rider. "She won't be jealous."

}:It talks! ..Sort of!:{ Imarith said gleefully, passing along the image of fish. }:What is it? I don't know what that is!:{

**It's a fish, probably from the ocean. You eat it.** Alina shook her head at the pair of them. "I'm really sorry," she said to Cyradis.

"Don't worry," Cyradis shook her head. Panitath crooned at the light hearted mood of her rider. "This was fun," she grinned at Alina.

The weyrling smiled shyly, still not entirely sure what to make of the Weyrwoman. "I'm glad?"
