"You did it!" Alina had hurried down to where the Candidates - now Weyrlings - were settling down their baby dragonets for the night. Ciendra had Impressed! After standing so long on the Sands, she'd actually done it -- and Alina couldn't be happier for her. Maybe it was rude, and it might have been frowned upon to visit so early after Impression, but Alina couldn't stay away. "I'm so happy for you!"
"Alina! I did it. I had my dragon!" Ciendra called back. She was almost bouncing with happiness. Her life was now complete. She was also delighted to see her friend.
The older weyrling crossed the room to give Ciendra a hug. "She's beautiful. I didn't catch her name, though?" There had been so much shouting, and the crowd was so loud...
"It's Lialeth. It's such a pretty name," Ciendra replied and hugged her back.
"Lialeth. Well, I'm happy for you." Alina took a step back and glanced around the room. It smelled of blood and dragons and should have triggered memories for her, but she'd spent the first night as a weyrling in the Infirmary. "I know you've wanted this for so long, and I'm just-- you'll be such a good greenrider."
"Thank's Alina, that means a lot for me," Ciendra replied bit shyly.
The older weyrling desperately wanted to ask if any of Ciendra's family had attended the Hatching and were there to congratulate her, but bit her tongue just in time. Like as not they hadn't, and from the sounds of it Ciendra's aunt would be horrified anyway. It made her appreciate her own family a little more-- even her sister, who hadn't exactly been happy about her Impression. "Well... the first few weeks can be a bit hard. If you ever need anything or have questions, have Lialeth speak to Imarith and I'll see if I can help out."
"I will," Ciendra promised solemnly. "Could you do a favour for me? Could you do my hair again? Do you have time for it? I would like to look pretty at the Hatching feast," the request came out in one rush of words. Ciendra wasn't used to asking for help. She really hoped L'cor would notice her _that_ way now that she was greenrider. Of course, she was also off limits while she was weyrling. But if she just got him to see her as anything else than little girl.
"Of course!" It would take time away from the party, but how could Alina say no to a request like that? "Is Lialeth settled? I can go find some pins and ribbons while you do that."
"Yes, she's soundly asleep," Ciendra gave the dragonet a fond look. "I need to change to my dress," she fretted a bit. She lowered her voice to conspiratory whisper: "And P'ton already asked me to dance."
Alina laughed. "I think P'ton asked half the Weyr to dance," she said dryly. "But if we're going to have to hurry to get you to the party on time. Go change and I'll meet you back here to do you hair."
"No wonder he Impressed a bronze," Ciendra murmured. "Right, I'll be quick," she replied.
"So will I." Alina turned to go, then paused. "And I am truly happy for you." Ciendra wanted this life in a way she never had, and now that she'd Impressed Alina didn't feel as guilty when she looked at the younger girl. Ciendra was _happy_...
"Thank's Alina, you're the best!" Ciendra was already pulling off her candidate robe.
