"How was your day, my husband?" Xeladrie asked, sipping at her water.
"Long," he said with half a smile as he walked to her to deposit a
kiss on her cheek. "How are you feeling?"
"I wasn't sick at all today, and I took a walk outside. Nice weather.
I hope it stays good."
"That's very good," he smiled. "I had an invitation for us to visit
the Seacrafter Hall. They're having a grand opening."
"That sounds marvelous. What kind of events do they have at a Hall's
opening?" She could dress up nicely while she still could, look pretty
and get a sense of the seacrafters.
He chuckled at her enthusiasm. He was beginning to think that his wife
was good for his normally brooding mind set. "I'm sure it will be
festivities like a gather and some tours and such. Are you up to that
much walking? They'll want to show us everything."
"I would love to go before I can't," she said. "So I'll have to be. I
do miss Gathers."
He nodded, "of course-- and we'll have some of our own before summer
makes it too hot or you are too uncomfortable. Why don't you talk to
Yriadha about it and I'll speak to Eirock so we can get the pair of
them working on it."
"It won't be a strain on resources?" Planning and hosting a Gather was
a lot of work, and Sunstone was new.
"Yes," he said quirking an eyebrow. Quite an astute remark for a woman
in his estimation. Xeladrie continued to amaze and impress him. "But
we will keep it smaller than a wealthy hold like say Emerald Falls or
Garnet Valley," he smiled. "We don't have a prize string of runners
yet to host races, though we could have some boat races on the bay.
We've done that before, it went very well."
"I suppose with the Hall here that would be most appropriate," she said.
He chuckled. "We even built stands down by the warehouse district. It
would be simple to get them back out of storage and set up again.
Would you like that?"
"If I'm going to be Sunstone's lady in proper, I should see the best we
have to offer." she said primly, then offered him a smile to break the
serious mood. "Right?"
He chuckled, "Of course My Lady Sunstone," he bowed. "Shall we go down
to dinner this evening and tell the hold our good news?"
"I think that would be marvelous. It will be so interesting to set how
it's done here." Her father had held Gathers, of course, and Turquoise Bay
was older. But this was a chance to chart a path.
"I welcome your ideas m'dear," he smiled. "Do you feel far enough
along to announce your condition? Or would you like to have the
healers visit first?"
"Would it be alright to have the healers first? I want to know for
sure." And just in case anything terrible happened. Like - but she
shied away from the thought.
"Of course," he nodded. "Whatever you wish." He smiled and took her
hand. "I want you to be as comfortable as possible during this time
sweetheart,: he said warmly. It was the first time he'd used such an
endearment with his wife but it felt natural. She _was_ sweet and
compliant and giving him exactly what he wanted. His memory of the
woman he'd loved was softly blurring into her sister to whom he was
now married. Perhaps someday he'd ask about her and find out why she
hadn't waited like she'd promised.
A sudden surge of affection warmed her. "I think you're doing well at
making me comfortable. And soon we'll have a child."
"Yes, soon we shall." He helped her to her feet. "That's a nice
dress," he said admiring what she wore as they walked toward the door.
"Is it new?"
"It was fixed up by Sophque so it fits better," she said, pausing long
enough for him to appreciate it. "I imagine I'll need a few more loose
ones in upcoming months."
"Of course," he agreed indulgently. "How is she working out for you?"
He didn't know that much about the seamstress as she'd worked nights
under Morin's administration. There had even been a bequest in his
will for the young woman. He supposed he should probably grant it to
her and resolved to mention it to Yriadha or rather Eirock.
"I like her," Xeladrie said with a tilt of her head. "She's a nice
person and her craftsmanship excellent. It's nice to have some women
to chat with."
"Good," he smiled and nodded. "I'll have Yriadha get you some names of
eligible young women in the area to serve at your pleasure." He felt
she needed to surround herself with some more well bred young women
and the Headwoman would know exactly who would be a good choice.
"That would be marvelous, thank you." Not all of them would become
true friends, not if they were spying for the Headwoman, as Humari had
warned might happen. But it would be nice to spend time with people
regardless.
Bryvin opened the door to the sitting room and held it for his wife to
precede him onto the balcony and the stairs down to the dining hall.
