It wasn't as if K'lvin had not noticed the thickening of his
weyrmate's waistline, but at first he'd just attributed the slight
weight gain to her being happy and less stressed. During the time that
she'd gone back home there had been a drastic weight loss, but over
the past few months together things had been smooth sailing, and
K'lvin liked to think that it was this happiness that was adding the
inches back to Bahji's slim frame.

At first K'lvin had been afraid of asking Bahji about it for fear that
she would think he was insulting her weight or, Faranth forbid,
calling her "fat." But after the past two sevendays, and a distinct
bulge forming along her abdomen, K'lvin knew that he had to ask...

"There's my beautiful weaver." K'lvin said as he came threw the weyr,
walking over the colorful braided rugs that Bahji loved. Coming up
behind the redhead he wrapped his arms around her and pressed his lips
to the curve of her neck.

Bahji leaned back with a soft sigh and snuggled back against K'lvin,
her lips lifting in a smile. She laid her arms against his, hugging
him back. "Uh huh." She tilted her head back slightly at the soft
kiss. "How was your day?"

"It was good," K'lvin replied honestly. "I was observing some of the
Senior Weyrlings today, trying to see who might be a good fit in my
Wing. If K'sedel doesn't take all of the good ones first, of course."

"K'sedel's not like that. He' needs you to have a good wing too." She
patted his hand. "Any promising ones?"

The Wingleader smiled. It was true, K'sedel was not particularly
greedy when it came to choosing which Wings the Weyrlings graduated
into. That wasn't always the case from the past experiences K'lvin had
at other Weyrs. "There were a few that really caught my eye." He
thought particularly of Riveenata.

Echoing his thoughts, Bahji suggested her friend. "You should try to
place Riveenata with your wing, if you can. You always need more
greenriders, right?" She didn't try to straighten; she loved being
wrapped in his warmth and he was busy enough that it didn't happen all
the time.

"She was actually one of the ones that stood out to me. I like people
who are willing to work hard." Work ethic was irreplaceable in
K'lvin's opinion.

Sliding his hands down over her hips, the Wingleader finally got to
the topic he really wanted to talk to his weyrmate about, "Your body
has been.. changing, lately, Bahji." If there was one thing K'lvin had
come to know intimately it was Bahji's body.

She was used to the feel of his hands, but his words made her stiffen
in his grasp. She slowly stood straight, cleared her throat and tucked
a piece of hair behind her ear. "I guess it has, hasn't it?"

The way her body went rigid was enough to make K'lvin seriously
consider the suspicion he had been harboring, "Any reason why? You
don't seem to be eating any differently."

"I've been eating a bit more actually." She stepped away, moving to
her loom to check it, even though she knew full well that it was
perfectly set up. She shifted on her feet and sighed. "I didn't want
to tell you yet."

It was as K'lvin had suspected, but it surprised him nonetheless,
"Tell me what?" He pressed softly, wanting to hear it from her lips.

Her fingers stroked over the yarn, fingering the soft weight of the
beginnings of the blanket she was making. Her back to him, she took a
deep breath. "I must have missed a couple of mornings of the teas."
Her voice was soft. "You're to be a father again."

K'lvin's eyes slid shut, torn between happiness and despair. Having a
daughter, Kylena, had been one of the happiest days of K'lvin's life,
and he very much enjoyed being a father. The prospect of being a
father to a child given to him by Bahji was a joyful prospect indeed.
However, the Wingleader still vividly remembered the healer's warning
against Bahji having future children. It had been the fear of losing
Bahji that had driven K'lvin to his rash actions and the aborting of
Bahji's babies.

Stepping up to his weyrmate, K'lvin brought his arms around her, as
they had been before, "How far along?" He asked softly, his hands
sliding over her hips to her abdomen.

She stiffened for a moment, having expected a raised voice of
displeasure and not the tender touch. She relaxed just a little, but
still held herself distant, fearing what he would say next. "I'm due
in month one."

K'lvin rapidly started doing mental calculations. She had waited a
while to tell him... **Scratch that, she didn't tell me, I figured it
out. How long would she had waited before telling me?** He wondered,
feeling a little hurt. **But then, what can you expect K'lvin? Look at
how you reacted last time.** This tone was more scolding and he knew
that Bahji had every reason to be worried about telling him.

"You've been to the healers?" He asked.

She shifted on her feet and slowly nodded. "Yes. I have been. But not to Reeva."

That at least was a relief. K'lvin could honestly say that he had no
kind thoughts for Reeva. "Bahji," his voice was soft, but filled with
emotion, "it won't be like last time. I promise."

She swallowed. "I didn't mean for this to happen, I swear. It just
did. But...I didn't want to take a chance on..." She fell silent. "I
couldn't bear it. I can't, K'lvin."

K'lvin's arms tightened around her, "I know, sweetheart, it's not
something you should have ever had to worry about to begin with, and
that's my fault. We'll do it right this time around, yeah?"

She let go of a long breath and leaned back against him, relaxing a
bit more. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, K'lvin. I was scared." Her
hands laid on his arms as she nestled backwards. "I thought you'd be
angry."

"I'm not angry at anyone but myself. It is my own fault that my
weyrmate was afraid to tell me about something so wonderful." K'lvin
closed his eyes, savoring the feel of the redhead in his arms, "At
least this time there will be no one to contest who the father is." He
added lightly, since that _was_ a relief.

She exhaled with shared relief. "No doubt at all who the father is."
She closed her eyes. "You're not upset at me?" She nestled back, the
stress of hiding the pregnancy now eased from her shoulders. "You're
okay?"

A smile tugged at K'lvin's lips, "I am okay, I promise. I am imagining
how excited Kylena will be." The too-old-for-her-Turns little girl
would relish being an older sister.

"Let's not tell her yet. Not before I'm showing too much." His chest
was firm and warm and the arms around her were a comfort. "I'll just
have to be very careful, K'lvin. But it'll be alright."

K'lvin hoped that she was right, because life without Bahji was simply
not an option.
