Description: The weyrleader greets the newest goldrider and her lifemate
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 15 of Turn 7
}: More. :{ The little gold opened her mouth demandingly.
**Manners, Anaeryth.** Lanniya eyed her little gold. **Just because
you're a gold doesn't mean you can be rude. **
Anaeryth huffed. }: More...please. :{ She wiggled closer and opened
her mouth wider.
**Better.** Lanniya gave her the piece of meat, then reached into the
bucket again.
"They're nothing but hungry at this age," K'sedel commented as he and his
weyrmate observed the newest weyrlings.
"They sure are," Ciara smiled from behind the Weyrleader's shoulder.
"She's lovely by the way."
Lanniya turned at the voices and immediately offered K'sedel a smile.
"Good morning. That's all she seems to do is eat and...well, the
other." She turned to peer at the woman and then curtsied politely.
"Hello. I don't think we've met, I'm Lanniya and this is Anaeryth.
I..."
She was interrupted by a light headbutt by the little gold. }: I do
more than that. I sleep.:{ The little gold turned her gaze towards the
oncoming pair and greeted them both with a little burp.
"Ciara," she said reaching around for the girls hand. She appreciated
nice manners in a young girl. "A pleasure to meet you. I'm K'sedel's
Weyrmate." She stepped out of the big man's shadow and the gentle
rounding of her belly became apparent. She smiled softly down at the
little dragonet. "I remember when my Ellianith was that small." She
shook her head. "They grow so fast."
"It won't be long before she's bigger that Nikornath even. Enjoy this time
while you can," K'sedel said as he gave the young weyrling a smile. "But
when she is that big, you'll have help with washing and oiling her, and
she'll hunt for herself."
Lanniya took Ciara's hand and shook it, her hand light on Anaeryth's
soft hide. "It's nice to meet you too." Her eyes went to the woman's
stomach and she gasped delightedly. "Oh you're going to have a baby!
That's so wonderful. Congratulations for both of you." Her eyes
softened. "Maybe someday I'll..." She shook her head, recognizing that
it was off the subject. "I was wondering about that and I haven't had
time to ask, but when she gets bigger, how will be able to bathe her?"
She chewed on her lip. "I uh...I can't really swim."
Ciara smiled up at K'sedel, "We're very happy about it." Her eyes
turned back to the girl. "There's plenty of time for that," she said
softly. "You'll have as many children as you want, I'm sure."
K'sedel made a mental note to make sure the weyrlingstaff knew that fact. He
was pretty sure that they would ask, but just in case. "You'll find that the
colour of her hide will get you a few helpers, but she'll learn soon enough
to swim and be able to go in and duck under to get herself wet for you to
scrub her down."
Lanniya's brows knit. "Oh, but I don't think I should get special help
just because she's gold. That's not really fair, is it?"
}: Of course you should. I am very important, after all. :{ Anaeryth
ambled up to K'sedel and Ciara and peered at them. }: Tell them that I
like scratches. A lot. :{ The little queen pointedly presented her
brow ridges.
"Oh sweetie," Ciara shook her head. "It really is fair. When you think
about the amount of hide to scrub on a green compared to a gold. It
really is fair for you to have help when she grows up." She shrugged
and grinned. Even brown and bronze riders have help at times. Of
course when I get a little farther along I won't be able to wash
Ellianith at all."
"She could well end up bigger than Nikornath," K'sedel said as he reached
out slowly to scratch the young queen as she so clearly wanted. "And you'll
find you might not have the time. There's this thing called hidework that
follows bronze and goldriders about. And it multiplies and breeds, so you'll
appreciate the help."
Anaeryth crooned at the scratch and with eyes half lidded, she peered up at
K'sedel with satisfaction. She paid little attention to their conversation,
content to be adored as she so clearly deserved.
Lanniya's mouth twitched. "You're going to spoil her by doing what she
wants, you know." She looked at both people, trying to come to grips with
her new position. "I guess I could ask nicely for help, but I don't think I
should just expect it. It sounds too arrogant to me." Her brow furrowed at
the mention of hidework. She didn't like doing lessons _now_. "Oh. _That_."
Her nose wrinkled. "Will I have time for other things?"
Ciara chuckled. "Yes. If you accept help when it's offered."
"I guess I'll have to sometimes." Lanniya had to admit that the
Weyrleader and his mate were probably right. "But right now, she's
growing but not too big yet." She reached to stroke Anaeryth's head,
who turned to croon at her. "I didn't think it would be so fast,
really."
Ciara twined her fingers with K'sedel's free hand and rubbed his upper
arm. "We should probably move on to the other weyrlings Kes," she
smiled. "I'm sure there are others who'd like to speak with Lanniya
and Anaeryth before the feast." She was feeling a bit tired and
planned on laying down in their weyr rather than going to the feast.
