Description: The Dolphin Cove Weyrleaders meet the newest goldrider
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 15 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Pierka
"There she is," Cyradis pointed at where the tiny golden sister of her
own lifemate eagerly opened her mouth for more of the meat provided by
the weyrling workers. Of course there was already a line of people
going to meet all the newest weyrlings but she took full advantage of
her own rank in this case and smiled at the girl as she came up next
to her.
"Isn't she just lovely," Cyradis smiled down at the burnished hide of
the baby queen.
Anaeryth peered up at Cyradis and the approaching Weyrleader, chewing
her hunk of meat slowly as Lanniya turned to greet Dolphin Cove's
leadership. }: I like this woman. She has good taste. :{
A giggle escaped Lanniya as she turned to Dolphin Cove's Weyrleaders.
"She likes you." She offered a hand to Cyradis, her eyes bright.
"Hello, it's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Lanniya."
N'vanik smiled at the girl as he hung back a bit, letting Cyradis take
the lead. There was something familiar about her but he couldn't put
his finger on it.
Cyradis took the offered hand and pressed it warmly. "Very nice to
meet you Lanniya." She tilted her head slightly trying to put her
finger on the reason the girl seemed to be familiar. But then she
turned to the tiny queen and curtsied. "Very pleased to meet you as
well Anaeryth. Panitath sends her greetings to you." Looking back at
the girl she smiled. "You look familiar," she said. "Have you been to
Dolphin Cove?"
Anaeryth chewed her piece of meat slowly and bobbed her head at the
curtsy, eyes moving between the two new people. She got the sense in
some way that they were important, but not as important as the meat
that her Lanniya was now feeding her. She headbutted Lanniya and then
opened her mouth wide. She took the next proffered piece with a
delicate nip, chewing with relish as her lifemate went for another.
Lanniya shook her head. "Oh no. Never. I came to River Bluff by
chance, really. My grandparents are traders, but they mainly traveled
the smaller Hold circuit." She offered Anaeryth another piece of meat,
the gold barely missing her fingertips. "They were really surprised
when it turned out I wasn't as crazy as they were afraid I was and I
was Searched." She looked down with pure love at the gold, who
returned the stare with adoring eyes. "I'm so glad we did come here."
"Congratulations," N'vanik said, stepping forward to offer his hand.
"Weyrleader N'vanik, of Dolphin Cove. You make a beautiful pair."
Cyradis smiled up at N'vanik. These events always made her happy in
ways she couldn't describe. She looked back at the youngest goldrider.
"You just seem very familiar is all," Cyradis smiled. "You know who
she looks like?" She turned her attention back to N'vanik. "Pierka.
Well except for the hair."
"Thank you." Lanniya was about to continue before her face went still
and her lips her brow furrowed, the smile dropping from her face as a
flash of grief crossed her expression. That name was too close to
another's and to painful memories of a last hug goodbye. "I don't know
a _Pierka_, but..." She shook her head and cleared her throat. She
laid a hand on Anaeryth's head to soothe the gold's confusion and
upset. "Perhaps we just look similar. I only have my grandparents."
That reaction gave her a momentary crease between her brows but she
was finely attuned to new hatchlings and knew this wasn't the time or
the place to pursue the subject so she latched on to the girls final
words. "Grandparents? They must be so proud. I'm sure we'd love to meet
them. Wouldn't we N'vanik?" She elbowed him figuring he catch her
drift. Rather than upset the hatchling they could talk with the
grandparents out of earshot.
"Uh, yes," he agreed. He didn't quite know what Cyradis was getting at
but he'd go along with it.
"Alright the Lanniya," Cyradis smiled again and took N'vanik's arm.
"I'm sure we'll be seeing you again soon." She knew the girl wouldn't
likely remember much but a blur of these first hours with her new
lifemate. They'd meet again when she wasn't so overwhelmed with the
newness of it all. Besides there were others wanting to congratulate
the new pairs.
"They are proud." Lanniya agreed, glad for the change of subject and
offered a more genial expression as she looked over her shoulder at
the older couple speaking to a weyrlingmaster. "I think they're
floating right now, even more than me. My grandfather has his chest
all puffed out." Her eyes gentled at the sight. "He said coming here
was all worth it."
"We should head over there and give them another chance to gloat."
N'vanik didn't know why Cyradis was so eager to talk to them, but he
supposed he'd find out.
"I'm sure they will." There was a soft laugh as she offered yet
another piece of meat to Anaeryth. "It was nice meeting both of you."
"A very great pleasure Lanniya and you Anaeryth," Cyradis smiled at
the pair. She wished fervently this lucky even had happened for
Dolphin Cove but then anything was possible. She looked up at her tall
and handsome Weyrleader. "We should go and let them gloat."
