Description: They attend the River Bluff Hatching
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr, River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 15 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya, K'yne, N'vanik
Saibra was excited to be attending the River Bluff Hatching as it
meant getting out of the cold for a bit and heading somewhere a little
warmer. It also meant escaping K'yne, who was at her weyr far too
often to see Kaibren. If anyone could get under her skin and make her
want to sleep with them at the same time, it was K'yne, and that made
her dislike him even more.
The deep red dress that Saibra wore was tailored perfectly for her
figure, and she loved the thin, silky feel of the material- it was
vastly different from the thick heavy wools that she normally had to
wear to keep warm.
}:The Weyrleader is here.:{ Chioneth announced.
**On my way.** Saibra said, grabbing a thin jacket to put on, just to
keep off the chill of /between/ while they were traveling.
G'nir was pulling his flight jacket over his gather tunic. He was
wearing Dragonsfall's colors. "You ready to go, Saibra?" he asked
with a smile. "It will be interesting to see who River Bluff's new
goldrider will be."
Nirreth crouched down on the ledge, wearing straps for two.
"It will indeed. I haven't seen a gold hatch since I left Far Island."
Saibra had loved being one of the senior goldriders that worked with
the younger goldriders and weyrlings. Since she was in a long dress,
Saibra required G'nir's assistance, even though Nirreth had been so
kind as to crouch. Once she was safely on the bronze's neckridge,
Saibra quickly strapped herself in.
"It's always an occasion." He settled to Nirreth's back behind Saibra
and gave him the visualization. Nirreth launched off from the ledge.
Soon they emerged /between/. The sky above River Bluff Weyr was full
of dragons. The watchdragon was busy greeting all the incoming visitors.
Nirreth grumbled a complaint when they didn't get permission to land
right away. They had to circle over the Weyr first. }: Why does Loseth
get to land first? Am I not a leading bronze too?:{ his indignant tone
drew a chuckle from G'nir. "Nirreth's complaining because Loseth is
landing before him," he told Saibra. "Ah, the rivalry between bronzes."
Saibra laughed, although inwardly she was looking forward to the
chance to see the Dolphin Cove Weyrleaders. "At least it is not as bad
as the rivalry between golds. I can't even bring Chioneth to Hatchings,
after all." It really was bothersome always depending on someone else
to transport her to a Weyr's hatching, but she had gotten lucky with
the fact that G'nir was a handsome and courteous escort that she never
minded being with.
Once their feet were on the ground, Saibra slipped her hand into the
crook of G'nir's elbow. If nothing else, the Dragonsfall Weyrleaders
always struck a handsome pair when they went places together.
"Mmh, yes," G'nir agreed and escorted her towards the Hatching Cavern.
The warm, tropical air of River Bluff Weyr was making him hot and he
wished for a lighter tunic.
Saibra, on the other hand, reveled in the warmth of River Bluff after
the cold of Dragonsfall. The Hatching Cavern was packed, more than
usual Saibra would wager, because of the presence of the gold egg on
the Sands. Weaving through the crowd, G'nir and Saibra took seats that
had been reserved for them near the other visiting Weyrleaders. "I
heard that they have a Candidate that can hear all dragons," she
commented as they waited for the Hatching to begin.
"They have two of those, lucky them. We had only D'wrayt but he moved
elsewhere," G'nir said, sounding jealous. He found them good seats and
a serving drudge brought them cold drinks.
The Weyrwoman was naturally interested in people that could hear all
dragons, and the skill was certainly an incredible one, but she did
not see the _need_ to actually have one in the Weyr. Golds could
already hear and communicate and command all other dragons so what
good was it to be able to personally hear all of those other dragons?
Saibra thought it was probably a tiresome thing to have all of those
voices to contend with. She preferred that Chioneth had to deal with
the other dragons, and not she.
"Oh, here they come." Saibra raised her cup in the direction of the
Sands, which was now being flooded with white-robed figures.
"Yes, this should be interesting to watch," G'nir said and relaxed to
watch the Hatching. It was very different when you didn't have to
worry if all the eggs would find their match or if everything was
going well. "Care to place a bet who Impresses gold?"
Saibra had only the appearance of the two girls to choose from, "If I
were picking I would pick that older weyrbred girl, more experience
and maturity, but the dragon always does opposite of what I think so
that probably means that the younger one there will get the gold."
"In that case, I'll put my marks on the hears all dragons. Which one
of them is she?" G'nir replied. He studied the group of girls gathered
around the gold egg. The first eggs started to crack.
The Weyrwoman had to confer with her dragon first before answering,
"That thin girl with the strawberry blonde hair. That's the hear all
dragons girl." It would be interesting to see what the hatchlings
thought of an individual with such an unusual talent.
"She looks very young," G'nir remarked.
Saibra had to agree with the Weyrleader on that observation. But the
dragons never seemed to have much bias when it came to the Candidates'
turns, despite the Weyrleaders and Weyrlingstaff preferring older
Candidates. Much later, toward the end of the exciting hatching,
the young girl that could hear all dragons was the one that walked
away with the gold. Saibra sighed and shook her head with a grin,
"See? I'm always wrong. The dragon knows best."
