Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 4 of Turn 3
"I heard you were here." The Wingsecond looked at his older brother, sat at the table in the dining cavern. "What on Pern made you transfer here of all places?" There had better be a good reason, and hopefully it wasn't another of those bluerider lovers that he seemed to be prone to trailing after.
"I heard Dad could use some more Searchriders and I liked the weather here," R'sedel grinned. "You know, I meant to visit with you and...
well I hear you have a _weyrmate_, but I got a bit distracted and then I was supposed to have dinner with Dad. You know how it goes..."
That was his brother alright, ever the laid back one. K'reyel gave him a weak grin in return. "At least I know Mai will be safe with you."
R'sedel laughed. "Is she truly so uncorruptable?"
"She is," replied K'reyel, totally failing to see what made his brother laugh.
"Oh, how terribly boring," the greenrider chuckled. Trust his brother to find the most inhibited woman in the Weyr to claim as his own. It was... fitting somehow...
"Mai isn't boring. She's a Senior Journeywoman Harper, a teacher. The kids love her, she has a way with them."
"I'm sure she does," R'sedel nodded. "In fact, Dad tells me you two are trying to reproduce."
"If you mean we want children, then yes, that's true."
"Well, I was pretty sure you weren't planning on reproducing puppies,"
R'sedel laughed. "And speaking of ankle biters, how are my little nieces? Reyela must be close to graduating harper classes soon."
"Not far off, I think she'd going to be another harper, like Meredel."
K'reyel thought of his eldest, "She loves to sing and dance."
"Well, maybe you should send her over to Dolphin Cove," R'sedel nodded.
"I hear the Hall there is accepting women finally, though not many yet.
She'd probably like it. She'd be surrounded by boys! I know I'd _love_
it!"
K'reyel raised an eyebrow at that comment. Reyela herself still looked at boys with disdain, so he supposed he didn't have to worry about that just yet. "She can choose what she wants to do when she graduates. And you know how K'deren and the others at Dolphin Cove would fuss over her, she'd hate that."
The greenrider chuckled. "Yeah, and she no longer has her corrupting uncle at Rising Moon. I guess she's stuck with hyper-responsible relatives to keep an eye on her."
Someone had to, thought K'deren, and he was tempted to say as much. But that would probably provoke another comment, and any public spats...
Well that would soon get back to their father, which would be the last thing either of them wanted. "She'll do what she wants, when she wants," he settled for saying.
"An independant sort is she?" R'sedel grinned. "She must have gotten that from my side of the family."
"From her foster parents. That's how they brought her up, I think they did a good job."
"They sure have. I can't wait to see that little flit. Is she and her sister here at River Bluff?"
"They both are. And I think the creche is glad that Kerranna has started classes proper. She's an independent one as well."
"Well, shards, I'll have to go find them then!" R'sedel adored his little nieces. It still amazed him that they could have sprung from his half-brother's loins.
"They'll find you soon enough," replied K'reyel.
"And hopefully you and your weyrmate can another soon. Maybe a son. I need more nephews."
"We'd like a boy," said K'reyel. "But if it does turn out to that we eventually have girls, well we'll be just as glad."
"Oh, of course, of course," R'sedel chuckled. Shards, his brother would never catch onto a joke if it jump up and bit him in the arse.
"What ever happens, therer will be another child for you to spoil." The last word was a bit of a bone of contention, with no children of his own ever likely, R'sedel had always brought little gifts and taken the children out, something their parents hadn't always had time to do.
The greenrider grinned. "And I will too."
"Just not too much. They are not Lord Holder's children."
"Oh, shards, I hope not! Who wants spoiled little hold children running around," R'sedel laughed. "Don't worry, you can trust me."
"And that's what I'm worried about."
"How so?"
"That was a joke," stated his brother. Honestly, didn't he get it?
"Really? Oh. Ooooooh.... Wait, yeah. Now I get it," R'sedel said with a chuckle. Shards, he still didn't know how his earnest brother could have turned that into a joke, but he didn't want to discourage him from trying. One of these days he might actually succeed. "That's good."
The eyebrow was raised again. Why was his brother always such a joker? "Well, Eniidith needs washing so she can flirt more effectively. Or at least that what she tells me. But you'll be seeing much more of me."
K'reyel supressed a groan at that thought. "I suppose I will."
