D'hol

After the furor of the events of the hatching had calmed enough for
everyone to settle, D'hol made his way to see _her_. He had waited a
couple of sevendays to allow Cyradis to heal and grow comfortable with
her child, but he didn't want to wait longer.. Seeing her in labor had
concerned him, despite how easily it seemed to have gone. Had she that
easy of a time with Kielya?

He made his way to her weyr and gave a brisk knock.

"Come on in," Cyradis called. She was standing in the middle of the
room with a small bundle in her arms when the door opened. She smiled.
"Well, hello!"

"Cyradis. " He nodded and looked at the bundle in her arms and his
face gentled for a moment before returning to his normal expression of
calm stoicism. "I was just coming to see how you were doing."

"Thank you," she said with a sweet smile. "We're doing fine," she said
as she swayed in place and gently rocked the baby back and forth. A
small arm raised and the little guy yawned and then gave a tiny baby
groan. "He'll be asleep in a moment," she said.

D'hol's eyes fell on the child again. "I was concerned. Especially
with the labor during the hatching." His shoulders were a bit stiff.
"K'deren is a lucky man, Cy."

"Thank you," she smiled then grabbed one of his hands to lead him to
the couch. Their past was water under the bridge now but that didn't
mean all feelings were gone. "So am I," she said with another smile.
"And so are you! How's Jeyme's pregnancy going?"

He followed and sat, tugging on his ear in thought. "It's going well.
There aren't any problems at all. She seems to be taking it very well
and of course it doesn't hurt that she's already in the Queen's wing."
He frowned a little. "There's been a bit of difficulty with N'vanik
and his woman Talryne, but I plan on handling that."

"Oh really?" N'vanik she understood as there was a chance he could be
the baby's father but Talryne was normally almost invisible. She could
only imagine who was pushing whose buttons since both men were very
dominant. "How do you plan on handling it," she asked mildly.

"Ultimately..." He drew the word out with displeasure, "I've agreed
that he can see the child once a month when Jeyme is amenable. But if
I had my way, I'd rather have him not involved at all. His Talryne was
supposed to be Jeyme's friend, but ended up sending her back to our
weyr crying. " His eyes narrowed at the memory. "I'd like to throttle
her....and him."

She nodded "While I understand you very well, please don't kill him...
I need him." She grinned at D'hol.

"You wouldn't if Yumath catches Panitath next time." He reply was
immediate, his smile thin. "But, as you like. I'm not planning on
killing him. I just want to throttle him." He shrugged and then looked
back at the child in her arms. "May I?"

She grinned at his sally. Panitath _had_ chosen Yumath in the past and
even the last time she'd flown but Loseth had been sneaky and snagged
the senior gold before D'hol's lifemate could grab her. "Of course,"
she said and laid her son gently into his arms. She couldn't deny the
sense of nostalgia that hit her when she thought about what it would
have meant to her to do the same thing with his daughter.

He handled the child carefully, but it was clear it wasn't something
he was familiar with. He was slightly awkward and stiff as he cradled
the infant. "Are they all this small?" He glanced at Cyradis. "Was
Kielya?"

"She was," Cyradis smiled at him. "A bit smaller actually. She was
early too. That girl has always been impatient. I wonder where she
gets it," her eyes crinkled with humor.

One brow quirked up. "I don't." His lips lifted. "And I am patient."
He gently held the child closer, getting more comfortable with the
slight weight in his arms. "Still waiting for some things, but it's a
learned behavior, I think."

"Maybe now," she chuckled. "But I remember when you weren't the most
patient person, and a baby certainly tries whatever patience you may
have." She smiled softly at the picture of him holding Kendran. "Jeyme
is lucky," she said.

"Hm. Perhaps." He finally passed the child back to Cyradis with a
slightly furrowed brow. He couldn't help the wish that the child in
Cyradis' arms was his own and looking at the glow in her face, he
couldn't help but wish that he had put it there. There was a flash of
wistfulness in his eyes that was quickly covered as he inclined his
head. "I like to think so."

"I'm sure of it," Cyradis countered and turned to carry the baby back
to the couch and sit back down. "Oh, Kielya was asking about more
stories the other day."

He arched a brow. "More? She sees me twice a week at least, Yumath
just as much. I'll try to squeeze in time if I have any to see more of
her."

"She'll like that, thank you." Cyradis knew her time was mostly taken
up with the baby at the moment and if Kielya's father could pitch in
more it would relieve her of a bit of worry.

"Not a problem. When shall I pick her up in the evenings?" Suddenly
understanding that Cryadis was worn from caring for the child and
knowing that Kielya could be a handful on her own, he didn't mind
getting more time with his daughter.

"You can come for her before dinner if you like," she smiled. Kielya
was certainly needy with regards to attention and Cyradis had felt no
little guilt that the baby had taken so much of her attention that her
youngest daughter was feeling a bit neglected. "Thank you D'hol."

He nodded. "You're welcome." He inclined his head and then rose,
brushing off his pants. He paused and then bent to brush his lips
tenderly against hers. "Congratulations, Cy."

"Thank you," she repeated after responding sweetly to his brief kiss.
"I know it will help her through the next few weeks especially." She
couldn't say she minded his affection. It felt like the earliest days
of their friendship. Her heart still belonged to K'deren but she was
finding she could care deeply for them both without confusion of their
roles in her life. She smiled brilliantly at D'hol. "You're a better
father than I'd hoped."

That brought a wry smile. "I don't know whether or not to be offended
or flattered."

"Be flattered," she said decisively but with a twinkle in her eyes.
