Saibra

Saibra had to work quickly. Snow, fresh snow, heaped into a bowl. A
pinch of this. A dash of that. Stir, stir, stir. She threw on her
jacket, tucked the covered bowl under her arm and jogged out to
Chioneth. There would not be many more days left for the gold to take
Saibra places because she would be too egg heavy. Climbing up into her
seat, Saibra braced herself into her riding straps as the Queen
pushed off from her ledge and carried them /between/.

As they appeared over Dolphin Cove the air was sweltering, and hot. It
took some work, but Saibra managed to get out of her coat on the
descent to Panitath's ledge. Chioneth warbled a greeting to the Queen
on the Hatching Sands, while Saibra dismounted, the scarf about her
neck fluttering wildly behind her as she hurried into Cyradis's weyr.

"I brought you something!" She announced without any preamble, a smile
on her face as she came across her pregnant friend. "Snow cream! Your
friend Tavia showed me how to make it. I figured a certain pregnant
lady I know might enjoy some in the heat of the day! But you had
better hurry. It melts fast."

"Oh my goodness, Saibra," Cyradis exclaimed and held her arms out to
the other Weyrwoman. "It's so good to see you," she smiled and reached
for the bowl. "Tavia? How's she doing." She spooned some of the
wonderful concoction into her mouth. "Oh thank you this is
incredible."

"Dragonsfall's most redeeming quality.... Snow cream." Saibra grinned
as she took a seat, "Tavia is well, under the circumstances. I am sure
you heard U'kaiah went North." She liked the greenrider.

"Well, not if I know G'nir," she smiled at Saibra. "And I do know
G'nir." Cyradis winked. "I did hear about U'kaiah," she turned
serious. "How is Tavia doing, and the other rider what was her name?"

"Aileyan," Saibra supplied, "and they both seem as fine as one can be
after their man runs off. Aileyan is firmly routed with family and
friends at Dragonsfall. Tavia less so. I wouldn't blame her for
transferring back here in the long run." She lifted her shoulders,
"And yes, G'nir has been a pleasant and redeeming quality for the ice
block, as I call it." She smiled.

Cyradis spooned more of the delicious concoction into her mouth "Oh my
this is good," she said between bites. "Tavia would be welcome back at
any time," she nodded. "Oh, grab a couple of bottles of the
citroncello there from under the sideboard. Give one to Tavia. I know
she likes it."

"She will be very happy to receive this, she made mention of it, said
it was good in the snow cream too." Saibra said as she took the
bottles.

"Hmm," Cyradis looked speculatively at the confection. "I'll just bet
it is. Should we try it?"

Saibra smiled, "Of course we should!" She glanced at Cyradis's
pregnant belly, "And I won't even tell K'deren."

"Thank you," she flared her eyes, grinned and held out the bowl.

Splashing some of the citroncello into the snow cream, Saibra grinned
and gave it a quick stir, "There. Now we are ready to eat and gossip!"

"Yes we are," Cyradis agreed. "I do miss you," she grinned at the
other woman. "But you are were very ready for this. I'm glad it worked
out for you. How do you like Dragonsfall?"

The Dragonsfall Weyrwoman raised a little eyebrow at the question as
she considered how to answer, "It is very different." She put a
spoonful of the cream into her mouth, letting it dissolve slowly
before speaking again, "I did not realize how much climate could
change a dragonman. They are so very conservative there."

"Probably all the clothes they have to wear," Cyradis chuckled in
response. another spoonful of the delicious confection melted in her
mouth. "I hope you find your balance. You'll be very good for them
Saibra."

"I hope so. Everyone there seems to be use to the way Hygalia did
things... Very hands-off from what I understand. That is just not how
I operate, you know that."

"Of course," she smiled. "As do I. They'll learn and I think
understand after awhile. Even with the best Headwoman things can get
lax if you don't pay attention."

"Speaking of Headwomen, how are things going with Chaysea?" She had
only gotten to know the new Headwoman briefly before her departure.

"Very well," Cyradis smiled. "We have a good working relationship and
she even found me a personal assistant to attend to all my needs while
I'm pregnant. Ikalis is a treasure. Chaysea is holding things together
during the transition."

Saibra smiled, "Good, I am glad. And how is Kapera liking Dolphin
Cove?" Her jealousy over the other woman had eased enough for her
question to be genuine.

"I believe she's settling in well. I think its more of a load than she
thought when she first came here, but circumstances changed and she
stepped up. I think that's a really good sign." She smiled at her
former 'second. "I'm proud of you Saibra," she added with a smile.

Even though they were not terribly far apart in age, Saibra still felt
the compliment wash over her as it would have from a parent, "Thank
you, Cyradis. I hope after the baby is born you will come visit....
Bring the kids, they can play in the snow."

"They'd love that," she grinned. "I hope it's born soon," she added.
"I'm _very_ tired of sitting around all day. I've never had this kind
of complication with my pregnancies before. Maybe it's just a sign of
age creeping up on me."

"You? Age? Impossible." Saibra waved off the claim.

Cyradis chuckled. "Oh well, no time to think about that now anyway. At
least I don't feel it any other time. Not with the way K'deren tosses
me around," she grinned at Saibra. Her love for the brownrider was
evident whenever she mentioned him.

"How are your children settling in?"

"They are fine. Saidrene stays mostly with the other Candidates and
Kaibren is very much like K'fel so this is all just a grand new
adventure for him." Saibra wished that she had some of Kaibren's
resilience.

Cyradis smiled and nodded. "She'll come back around Saibra," sh
reassured. Teens always seemed to need some time to rebel and make
certain their parents knew everything that went wrong in their lives
was their _parents_ fault. "Are you going to let her stand for the
next clutch?"

"Yes, she wants very much to continue with her dragnhealing training.
I would hate for lack of a dragon to halt her in that process." Saibra
herself enjoyed the craft but now as a Weyrwoman found very little
time at all to use the skills she had learned during the Interval.

"Thats good," Cyradis nodded. "You can't have enough dragonhealers."
At that point Cyradis had all but licked her bowl clean and she smiled
at herself before she set it on the nearby table. "That was a
wonderful treat Saibra, Thank you for thinking of me."

The younger Weyrwoman stood, "Of course. Sadly I have to be getting
back," she said as she secured her scarf a bit more securely around
her neck, preparing for her return trip back to Dragonsfall.

"I know you do," Cyradis pushed up out of her chair and opened her
arms to Saibra. "I wish you all the very best Saibra," she said as she
offered the hug. "And come back any time. With or without the snow
cream."
