Can I Write a Post of My Candidate Impressing?
Yes, you may write a post from your Candidates point of view of the Hatching/Impression. However, this should not be sent to the list until after the Hatching Control Post has been sent out.
How Do Hatching Work?
Hatchings happen in two steps:
STEP ONE
When Hatching approaches, the goldrider will issue an email requesting the following information to all Candidate persona writers:
E-mail:
- Name of Persona:
- Impress or Not Impress:
- Elided name of persona (IF MALE ONLY):
- Hetero/Bi/Homosexual:
- Preferred Dragon Color:
- Dragon Name:
Remember, you are allowed to decide whether or not your candidate will Impress. In most cases your candidate will Impress their preferred color, the exception mostly being bronze and gold.
NOTE: There are no color specific candidates (ie. You cannot ask that your persona only Impress one color or nothing). If you have indicated that you wish your persona to Impress, they will be assigned a dragon.
STEP TWO
You will not be told before hand what color your candidate will Impress. There will be a control post for the Hatching. This will be written by the goldrider and brown/bronze sire's writers (on some occasions they chose to include the candidate writers as well). In this post the candidates who Impress and the color of the dragon will be revealed to the whole club at the same time.
Please do not ask them before hand what color you will Impress. Also, until this post goes out, no posts of your candidate's Impressing should be sent to the list. It spoils all the fun!
NOTE: Remember, this is a game that is supposed to be fun for everyone, and as in any game you win some and you lose some. If your candidate did not Impress the color you wanted this time around, please do not get angry or demand answers of the council and/or the goldrider/sire. That is unsportsman-like conduct that will not be tolerated.
Sexual Orientation, Gender, and Dragon Color
At Triad we only allow the traditional five dragon colors, with the gender of the rider depending on color as described in the books:
- GREEN - Heterosexual/bi-sexual females or Homosexual males
- BLUE - Homosexual males or Bi-sexual males
- BROWN - Heterosexual males
- BRONZE - Heterosexual males
- GOLD - Heterosexual females
There is no absolute rule on candidate or dragonrider sexuality, but there are a few points to be aware of when deciding on your character's preferences:
- As described in our Strict Canon Rules you need to be aware of the potential outcomes of your character's dragon's mating flight when deciding on their sexuality. For example, goldriders are usually heterosexual, as a gold's flight is always won by a bronze or brown, which are always ridden by men - although they may also be bisexual. For similar reasons, male greenriders are usually homosexual.
- For most of Triad Weyrs' history as a club, we followed the "strict canon" rule that gold, bronze, brownriders and female greenriders are heterosexual and male green and blueriders are bisexual or homosexual. Although this restriction has now been loosened, in-character assumptions about sexuality and dragon colour still exist socially in the Weyrs and Holds on Pern. Anything that differs from the "strict canon" will be unusual - and has potential for interesting storylines as our characters challenge these assumptions and stereotypes!
If you're planning to write a character outside the "strict canon" definition of dragonrider sexuality and are not sure what's allowed, it's a good idea to discuss with your mentor (for new members) a council member or writer of the Weyrleader/Weyrwoman for the location, so we can work out how best to fit them in with established club history.
My female candidate is bisexual or lesbian, can she be an candidate and impress?
Article by: Emma
We believe that lesbian and bisexual women would have the right to stand as candidates.
They may Impress a blue or a green dragon, but like for others, this would be as a result of what their new lifemate saw in them, not who they prefer to have in their beds.
This reward is at a cost of 425 marks, and is for new personas only.
- You may not update or adopt an existing character with an established history to purchase this reward.
- You may not create a new persona as an already Impressed bisexual greenrider with this reward.
A woman Impressing a Blue dragon is extremely rare and as such has the additional following restrictions:
- There will only be allowed one female bluerider per writer
- Must be an on-camera Impression
- Qualifies as an L4 ranker with those posting requirements
- Exempt from becoming a reqs-free L4
- There will only be one female-blue Impression per clutch
- Impression must be bought with 425 marks
- Persona must have been created before the Clutch you wish them to Impress in and must be solidly posted for at least 3 months.
Who decides what color dragon each candidate will Impress?
Those who will Impress all colors but gold are decided upon by the goldrider, with input from the bronze/brownrider who sired the clutch. The Council has final approval on the Impression list. The decision is based on quality of writing and effort the member is putting into the club, not sheer volume of posting. The decision is announced at the Hatching itself.
