"The power is out," weren't the words you wanted to hear, not when you
were woken up in the middle of the night by smudge faced technician
and it was winter outside.

"What?" bleary G'nir asked. He almost bolted out of his bed and soon
noticed the coldness.

"The power plant's broken and we don't have electricity. We've been
trying to fix it past two candlemarks," the technician explained.

"Shards!"

"Exactly, sir."

** Nirreth, where are you?**

}; At the hatching sands. Guarding the Eggs so Chioneth can sleep, :{
the bronze replied.

** Are the Sands warm?** that was every Weyrleader's first concern.

}: Yes, no change, :{ the bronze assured.

"You get back to work, I'll inform the Weyrwoman and Headwoman,"
G'nir told the technician.

"Yes, sir," the man hurried off and G'nir quickly pulled clothes on.
It didn't take long until G'nir was knocking the door to wake up
Saibra.

Saibra had moved into the temporary weyr attached to the Hatching
Cavern and the moment the knock came at her door she bolted upright in
the bed. Eyes blurred from sleep, and in a different place, she was
momentarily disoriented.

**Where am I?** She pressed a cool hand to her forehead.

Cotton-mouthed she reached over to her bedside table for her glass of
water. The water helped clear away the cobwebs from her mind as the
knock came again at her door.

A hissed escaped her lips as her feet touched the ice cold stone
floor, "By the shell!" Saibra snatched up her thick robe, shrugged
into, flicked her hair over her shoulder and padded to the door.
Opening it she was surprised to see G'nir, and knew that she wouldn't
be seeing him if something wasn't wrong.

"What is it?

"A black out. I've been told that our power plant is down. Sounded
more serious than the usual tunnel snake chewing through the wires,"
G'nir explained. "It's freezingly cold outside and if they don't get
the power back, here inside too."

Saibra made a face and motioned for the Weyrleader to come in, "Come
in while I put on some warmer clothes. What can I do to help?" She
asked as she turned and dug out a pair of her thickest riding
leathers, and a double knit sweater.

"Recruit anybody with anything resembling technicians training to work
on the problem?" G'nir suggested. The crafters and lower cavern staff
were Weyrwoman's responsibility, while the Wings and dragonriders were
his. "You may also want to check the records Hygalia left behind. Did
she leave any emergency plans for something like this?"

The current Dragonsfall Weyrwoman gave a not-so-polite snort, "No, she
didn't. She didn't leave much of anything." Saibra was convinced that
Hygalia didn't really _do_ anything as Weyrwoman for there were no
records left behind of her work. "I will get with Teseada, I am sure
she has a better knowledge of who has technician training." The
Weyrwoman pulled her jacket on over her sweater and then gave her hair
a quick, single braid and tossed it over her shoulder.

"I'll check the wings. If this lasts long, we might have problems with
supplies," G'nir said.

Stuffing her fingers into her leather gloves, Saibra had a sudden
thought, "What about firewood? Is there a ready supply of that
somewhere for people to use?" As the Weyrwoman she never really had to
worry about it because a drudge kept her fireplace going for her.

G'nir gave her a blank look. "I have no idea," he admitted. It was not
something he thought about. "Headwoman would know."

Saibra added that to her list of things to check on, "I will get up
with the Headwoman then and make sure that we have a system in place
to provide heat, especially to our retired riders and the creche

G'nir nodded approvingly. At least she had things well in hand and she
was effient. "Good, let's get busy. I have feeling things will be
hectic until we get that power back."

"I will catch up with you later in the day to see how things are
going. If you need me more immediately just let Chioneth know." Saibra
said as she wrapped her scarf around her neck, and then opened the
door to her weyr.

"Alright," G'nir nodded, already half out of the room.
