}:Get to the Hatching Sands. Now.:{ Chioneth's tone was authoritative
and not to be argued with. Fortunately, Saibra had heard this tone
many times over their time together, and it brought a smile to her
face. It meant that it was time for the Senior Queen to lay her eggs.

Leaving everything on her desk, Saibra hopped to her feet and strode
quickly from her office to the Hatching Sands. Chioneth was already
quite settled on the black sands, her eyes whirling and glowing in the
dim lighting. **Have you told Nirreth?**

}:Not yet.:{ Chioneth said grudgingly.

**You should. He will want to be here.** Saibra conjoled as she made
her way across the Sands.

There was a long pause.

}:Fine.:{ The Queen said before contacting the Weyrleader's bronze.

}: Chioneth is starting to lay our eggs,:{ Nirreth informed his rider
with proud tone. The bronze never tired of being a sire.

** Finally, about time,** G'nir answered and grinned. The waiting time
always felt so long. He left hurried note to P'nal and Rorela and
headed out to the Hatching Cavern.

He stopped at the entrance, remembering how Genith had been. Sometimes
most of the Clutching had been over before he was allowed inside.

"Hi Saibra! Am I allowed in?" he asked.

After sharing a look with Chioneth, Saibra waved G'nir in, "Yes, come
in!" While as protective as any Queen could be, Chioneth would usually
allow Saibra to persuade her into having the sire and his rider in the
hatching cavern. The Senior Queen curled her tail possessively around
the three or four eggs she had already placed on the sands.

"My duty to you, Chioneth, Saibra," he gave them both a bow after walking in.
"Has she already started?"

Nirreth entered the Sands too and settled down to guard his mate and eggs.

"Yes, just three or four eggs so far." Saibra told the Weyrleader as
she crossed her arms over her chest and rocked back on her heels. The
golden Queen did not seem bothered by the appearance of her bronze
mate, but spared him a welcoming croon before returning her attention
to laying another egg.

Nirreth crooned encouragingly back to her.

"Good," G'nir replied. "Does she usually take long?" he asked
curiously. "And how's her Hatching behaviour? Is she difficult or does
she allow candidate visits?" he kept asking. Chioneth was new in Weyr,
so he liked to find out what to expect. Some Golds were notoriously
demanding and difficult when guarding their eggs.

"She has always allowed candidates in the past. Chioneth is protective
but not to the point of blindly ignorning good sense. She understands
the need for the Candidates to try to form a bond with her children
even while they are in their eggs." Saibra knew some golds that were
vicious and didn't even allow the sire's rider in with the eggs. The
Weyrwoman stretched her arms out, "Now, how long she takes, can be
another story. She takes her time, for sure."

G'nir listened and nodded. "Well, we can have drudges bring food and
drink for us here," he noted and kept his eye on Chioneth. Watching
the egg laying never ceased to amaze him.

Saibra settled down to wait, her arms wrapped around her knees, her
chin braced on her arms.

Some candlemarks later Chioneth finally settled onto the Sands with a
'huff', a small horde of glistening, jewel-like eggs lay littering the
dark sands, but all within reach of the large Queen. Over on the side,
Saibra had risen and with a feline-like stretch, began counting the
eggs.

"Thirty-four." Saibra said with pride in her voice. Thirty-four was a
strong clutch, with or without a gold egg.

"Thirty four," G'nir repeated. Frankly, he had hoped for more, closer
to forty. Still, it was good number. "They look big ones," he nodded
towards the eggs.

It felt as if her happiness had been speared through with the
Weyrleader's lack of enthusiasm. She had already been having a tough
time at Dragonsfall anyway, especially since so few seemed to
appreciate her arrival at all. **Sometimes I think I should have just
stayed at Dolphin Cove and left them to flounder.**

"Yes. They are a good size." Saibra said in a clipped tone.

Chioneth's large golden head turned to survey her rider, }:I will
order them to leave the Sands.:{ The gold said matter-of-factly.

**No need.... But thank you, love.**

}:You are never happy any more.:{ Chioneth emanated a low, rumbling growl.

**Stop it. We will talk about it later.** Saibra commanded, her face impassive.

The Senior Queen huffed out a sigh but returned back to looking over her eggs.

"Do you want to tell the good news to the Weyr?" G'nir asked, all
business. "Or do I tell them?"

"You go ahead, I am going to go grab my things from my office and have
a drudge move my bedding and clothes into the hatching weyr." Saibra
thought the people of Dragonsfall would probably rather hear from the
Weyrleader anyway- the general populous liked him at least.

"Alright, let me know if you need anything," G'nir replied.
