Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 12 of Turn 7
Guess you'll be staying with us a while longer," N'vanik joked as he
walked up to Saidrene.
Saidrene looked up, a smile coming to life on her face as she
recognized the Dolphin Cove Weyrleader. "Yes, it does seem that way.
Although, I cannot say I mind." She would endure life at any Weyr if
it meant being with Ashareth.
"Good thing you came back for the Hatching."
"I know," she said with relief in her voice. "I nearly didn't." She
stroked her fingers over Ashareth's head, earning a rumbling croon
from the green dragonet, "What would have happened to Ashareth if I
had not come?"
"I'd like to say she could have found someone else, but with the way
she called to you in the Stands..." Watching a dragonet die from the
lack of a suitable Candidate was terrible. It had been a common
occurrence when he was a young rider -- too many eggs and not enough
Candidates.
Saidrene shuddered at the image of Ashareth out on the Sands searching
for her and not being able to find her. It was a horrible image and
just the thought made her gut twist.
}:Why are you worried?:{ The green asked curiously, tilting her large,
whirling eyes up to her lifemate.
**It is nothing.** She assured Ashareth.
"It is going to be a little odd going back into my class after leaving them."
"Hopefully you have a few friends that Impressed with you?" he asked.
Saidrene lifted her shoulders, "Not really." She had only ever been
close to Jenackt and that bridge had definitely been burned before she
left Dolphin Cove. She had not taken the time back then to really get
to know any of the other candidates.
That was a shame. "Well, you have a chance to make some." Even N'vanik
had managed to make a few friends in his class.
"I will try." She said simply, although she did not foresee herself
having much success with that. More than anything she just wished to
be left alone throughout Weyrlinghood. She would do any chores
required of her, and be obedient to the Weyrlingmasters, but she
already looked for the day when she and Ashareth would be in their own
weyr together.
"Impression is a chance to start over in a lot of ways. If you want
something else out of life, now's the time to go for it." N'vanik
wished he'd embraced the chance more fully.
Something else out of life.... She liked the sound of that. She did
want a different life than what she had had before. Saidrene did not
want to depend on her mother's name or title, and with Saibra at a
different Weyr, now was her chance to do just that.
"I think I will." She smiled at the Weyrleader.
He smiled back. "Good. Congratulations, Saidrene."
"Thank you, Weyrleader."
