Onnyth was on her ledge whilst her rider was in her weyr, sorting through
what seemed to be a never-ending stack of hides that should be sent to the
archives. The gold seemed to be resting, until something disturbed her, a
mental cry of distress from one of the young ones.
}:Is something wrong?:{ the gold asked, perhaps stating the obvious, but
something innocuous enough that she could back off it it were a false alarm.
}: Haloth's did good touching that turned bad, but was good until it turned
bad and made mine cry. I'm confused and Mine isn't telling me if it was good
or bad, she says both and keeps crying. Bad feelings are coming from her and
she is very sad and says she is a bad person. I don't like it! :{ There was
a tremor in Luneth's voice. }: It didn't turn bad until Haloth's stopped and
then it was all bad and I told Haloth to go away. :{
That was more than a little confusing to the gold, who really wasn't sure if
it was the youngling misunderstanding something, of if there really was
cause for alarm, so she alerted her rider.
Teseada was confused and surprised, until the word touching was
used.**Ask Luneth if her rider is hurt at all, then get Haloth and
N'call back here, _Now_,** she asked of Onnyth.
There was a long pause and Luneth answered Onnyth's question with
uncertainty. }: Mine is not hurt. But she says to tell you that she is
fine and there is no need for concern? She isn't letting me feel her
now. :{
N'call had been flying through the night near Dolphin Cove. He felt
like a heel about what had happened with Ninaine while Haloth tried to
talk him back with encouragement and affirmation that he really hadn't
intended harm. Then his tone changed.
}:Onnyth commands us to her weyr.:{
"Faranth!" N'call swore before he acknowledged and then went back
through to Dragonsfall. Haloth would have gone anyway. He'd obey the
queen as all dragons did even above their riders wishes.
Haloth landed on Onnyth's ledge and N'call slowly dismounted and
walked inside. "Tes, you wanted to see me?" He knew why of course
though he hoped she wouldn't skin him alive. But then again it was no
more than he deserved.
}:Luneth, ask J'darin or E'naer to go and see yours right now. Tell her she
has to let them in, tell her I said so.:{ Hopefully the words passed onto
the green by the gold and her rider would keep them calm until she could
find out what actually happened.
Teseada gave N'call a long, slow appraising look. "Start talking, now, and
it had better be good before I go and get G'nir and Saibra in here."
}: Mine says she begs Yours not to make her shame worse by telling it
to Ellispeth's or Hasaarth's. She does not hurt and it will never ever
ever happen again. She won't allow anyone any touches and it was all
her fault and wants to forget it ever happened. :{ Luneth paused and
there was actual pleading in the green's voice. }: She says please
many times.:{
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before he started. "I've
been watching Ninaine and Luneth's struggles. I've met them
accidentally a few times. I'd tried to visit her when she got her weyr
but she wouldn't let me in. She wouldn't let anyone in and she didn't
come out." He scrubbed a hand over his face. "So I talked my way in
just to check on her. It went really well and she seemed to understand
she couldn't hole up in there. Then..." he didn't really know how to
describe exactly what happened. He didn't understand it himself. "I
kissed her. Sharding... Sorry Tes. I apologized to her and got out."
"You kissed her? You kissed a Junior Weyrling! Did they drop you on your
head as a baby or something so you'd do something that stupid? You know the
risk to her and her dragon, or you should without being told." Teseada
looked at him, "Seriously, I should be telling J'darin at the very least."
In the meantime Onnyth took the draconic equivalent of a mental deep
breath, }:Tell your rider to come to my weyr now, she will talk to her about
this.:{
"I know, I know," he said. His misery and self loathing evident on his
face. "I'm sorry Tes. I didn't mean it to happen. I feel like a
wherry's arse." He shook his head and paced.
"And he didn't do anything that I didn't want." A soft voice spoke behind
him, muted. Ninaine had already been on her way to the goldrider's weyr when
permission had been given. The door closed quietly behind her and she
stepped forward, head bowed. Her eyes were red rimmed from tears and her
face pale with shame, but her voice wasn't the tremulous thing they might
expect. It was simply soft and tinged with guilt. "I beg your apology,
Goldrider. And yours, Bronzerider." Her hands clasped at her waist as she
looked steadily at the floor. "It isn't his fault. It's mine. He was going
to leave and...and I asked him not to. I..." Ninaine swallowed. "He held
me..and..it's been so long since Luneth has let anyone touch me. When he
kissed me, I didn't want him to stop. I've never been kissed before." She
glanced up at N'call, flushed and looked back down at her feet. "He wouldn't
have done it if I told him no. I didn't. I'm so sorry." She bit her lip. "It
won't ever happen again."
Teseada looked from weyrling to bronzerider. The evening seemed to be going
from what was already abnormal to surreal in the blink of an eye. "You
wanted..." she began. N'call was experienced enough to know so much better
than to try and play those kind of games with a weyrling, particularly one
that seemed to be having such a difficult time adjusting to her new status,
and the ban on relations that junior weyrlings had imposed on them for very
good reasons.
Gathering her thoughts, the goldrider began again. "I should report both of
you to the Weyrlingmaster. I know you have both been told about why kissing
and intimate relations are banned for weyrlings until they've gone /between/
for the first time, the risk of your dragon not understanding what you are
doing and feeling is too great, you could have lost her!" She looked to
Ninaine. "I suggest you go and speak to the Weyrlingmaster, or one of his
assistants if you feel more comfortable talking about these things to
another woman. It's confusing, I know that, but you need to learn from
this."
"N'call, I do need to tell K'ran about this, it will have to be dealt with,
and I think as you're in his wing, it's his perogative to decide how." A
look of regret crossed the goldrider's face. "I wish I didn't have to, but
for your sake, and Luneth's and the Weyr..."
"I know Tes," he nodded. Of course he wished it could be different but
he also knew how angry he'd be with another rider if they'd done what
he'd just done. "It doesn't matter what she says," he looked once at
Ninaine. "It's my fault. I knew better." He sighed thinking that all
his good work with the Weyrling had just been negated by tonight.
"I'll go talk to K'ran."
Ninaine bowed her head. She would have to talk to one of the weyrling staff
about this and she really didn't want to. Couldn't they just forget that it
happened? They were going to be furious with her, but in all honesty, she
deserved every harsh word she would receive. It would have been so easy to
let N'call take all the blame, but she couldn't have done that, not and deal
with her own conscience. She looked up at N'call and then back down. "I'm
sorry to get you into trouble, N'call. " She looked back up to Teseada.
"I'll go talk to them immediately, Goldrider."
"Good," she said to the young weyrling. "I expect you to tell them why I
sent you as well. No matter how embarrassed you feel, they will have heard
it before."
She nodded, her face glum and shamed, but also resigned. She glanced
at N'call and then down at her feet. "Excuse me." She hurried out of
the room, sucking on her lower lip.
N'call watched the young greenrider flee and turned a rebellious look
at Teseada. "She'll be mortified and hole up again Tes. This was _my_
fault, not hers."
"She needs to take her share of the responsibility as well, you heard her
say she wanted to kiss you. And that means she needs to learn why."
Teseada noted the look on his face. "I'm sorry, but if you'd only
waited a few more sevendays until those knots of hers showed senior
status..."
"I know, I know," he sighed deflated and scrubbed his hands over his
face. "I didn't mean to..." he shook his head. "You know that, right?"
Teseada's good opinion was important to him, more important than he'd
realized before.
"Now," she shrugged. "You're almost certainly going to have to finish what
you started, once they're both ready. Because she's not likely to look for
anyone else. Is that a responsibility you really want?"
He looked at her for a moment in silence. "I truly don't know," he said.
