Description: Have a business lunch to discuss progress around Dragonsfall.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 19 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Teseada, Genna/Lissath
"Have you heard about Dolphin Cove's project to put electricity
throughout the Weyr?" Saibra asked G'nir as she brought a tray of
lunch into his office for them to share. At least once a sevenday, if
not more, they lunched together privately to talk about politics and
gossip.
"Yes, I've heard of it," G'nir replied. Being one of the Southern
Pern's oldest Weyr and in colder climate, Dragonsfall always had had
electricity. Of course, the system was over 1200 Turns old, so break
ups happened, which is why they used fireplaces and glow stones as a
secondary source of heat and light.
"Seems like a large project. I am glad that Dragonsfall already has
electricity. Do you still think we need to look at expansion here?"
Saibra picked a vegetable off the platter, dipped it in some spicy
sauce, and popped it in her mouth.
"Hmm," G'nir nodded agreement, his mouth full. He swallowed it empty
before speaking up. "Our system is old. Teseada has been mostly
looking after it, being technician. Of course, the non rider crafters
do all the work maintaining it."
Saibra nodded, she imagined that a system so old did not constance
maintenance, "How much trouble would it be then to expand the Weyr
itself and run electricity through it as well?"
"I have no idea," G'nir admitted. His knowledge was limited to
flipping the switch to get lights on or off. "We should consult some
specialist about it. Or maybe Teseada has idea."
Tearing a piece of the fresh bread, Saibra popped it into her mouth,
her eyes narrowing a bit with thought, "Okay, forget about the
electricity for a moment. Let's just concentrate on expansion. Do we
have the crafters and workers that we need in order to get started on
that? Or do we need the Headwoman to begin bringing them in?"
"That depends again, of how large expansion and how fast we want it to
be ready. We have crafters, and dragonriders who had suitable craft
training," G'nir replied. After sipping his drink, he continued.
"Dolphin Cove has something similar going on too, and they are
drafting actively for crafters."
"Well, if Genna and Lissath mature and stay here at Dragonsfall to
breed, we will certainly need more weyrs then with three adult Queens
actively producing clutches." Then, of course, there was that horrible
looming knowledge that there had been so many rotating Weyrwomen at
Dragonsfall that Saibra doubted there had ever been three adult Queens
there for any length of time.
"That would be the first time for who knows how long," G'nir remarked,
his thoughts going along to same direction as hers.
Saibra knew people were watching her. Waiting for her to bolt. She
wouldn't. Unless she and Chioneth died in Threadfall, they would have
to pull her corpse from the Weyrwoman's chair. She would not leave, no
matter how different she found Dragonsfall.
"Maybe we should hold off on expansion plans then until we see how
things go with Lissath?"
"We can't start any major construction in a middle of winter anyways,"
G'nir agreed and pointed out.
"I know," she hadn't thought they would, "just thought it was
something we should discuss." Despite how she felt about Dragonfall's
Weyrlingmaster, she wanted to maintain a good working relationship
with Dragonfall's Weyrleader.
"Discussion is always good," said G'nir, who had been trained to
negotiate and to be diplomatic.
Saibra chewed thoughtfully, "On a different note, Chioneth is looking
huge," a disgruntled golden rumble could be heard, but it merely made
the Weyrwoman smile, "we should hopefully get a good size clutch with
her."
"She should be nearing her time," G'nir agreed. He's been keeping an
eye on calendar. "Successful Clutching is what this Weyr needs to
boost it's mood."
}:Your afternoon meeting is here.:{ Chioneth interrupted Saibra midchew.
**I am on my way.**
"Lunch was a pleasure, but I need to dash." She grabbed up her plate
and cup, and then looked at G'nir, "Same time tomorrow?"
"Of course," G'nir replied and as a gentleman, got up as she did.
"Being weyrleader means being busy all the time."
"Hopefully some of that business is a bit pleasurable though." Saibra
winked playfully.
"Your wish is my command," G'nir said, hand over his heart and little
smile playing on his lips. She wasn't nearly as serious as Hygalia had
been and he found it refreshing.
