N'vanik

N'vanik

Tahirath informed her rider that the Weyrleader was in his office. Not exactly
in those terms but at least Rayche knew where to find the bronzerider and
shortly after pointing her weyrmate in the direction of the Weyrwoman's office
she knocked on the door of the Weyrleader's office and rolling her shoulders in
a response to incredible warmth of the winters day at the tropical Weyr.

She had the feeling she could get used to winters at Dolphin Cove.

"Come in!" Loseth had informed him that the new greenrider was here.

"Weyrleader N'vanik," Rayche said, saluting the bronzerider with a hint of a
twinkle in her eye for her memories of a wild young man at Dragonsfall.
"Greenrider Rayche. Thank you for accepting my transfer."

"We're glad to have you. We've been getting a lot of folk from Dragonsfall
recently." N'vanik smiled gestured for her to have a seat. "Did you all decide I
hadn't burned Dolphin Cove down yet so it was safe to come over?"

"Not much to burn at a Weyr," Rayche said with a grin. "I can't speak for the
others - who are all probably old and feeling the cold - but I'm flapping along
in the wake of my weyrmate. Was I with Taine when you were at Dragonsfall?"

"I think so. At least, I remember you being involved with someone." N'vanik
hadn't paid much attention to most of the people around him until he became
Weyrleader.

"Well he's a master mason and has taken a contract here to work on the
electrification project. And since greenriders aren't so difficult to find
places for on transfer -" compared to bronzeriders who had to be fitted in with
wings with more care "- I said I'd come with him."

"A master mason with bonus greenrider. Very nice."

Rayche laughed. "That's exactly it! I don't suppose it's the usual way of things
but I hope it will work out. You do have a space for me, don't you? A little gap
in some wing, somewhere. where I might be a little bit useful?"

"I actually have a few spots due to our last weyrling group being small. One in
my Wing and one in Cyclone." He thought Rayche would fit nicely in either one.

"Weyrleader's wing, for a choice," the greenrider said without hesitation. She
always felt that the riders in that wing were always on their mettle just that
little bit more. Whether it was a matter of pride or just the knowledge that the
man leading their wing had his mind on more than just them and so they had to
keep their wits about them, she didn't know - or care - she just felt that there
was something special about flying in that wing.

"Good choice. You get the Wingleader who's more handsome _and_ more fun. The
next greenrider gets stuck with D'hol." He winked.

"D'hol? Impressed at Dragonsfall?" The bronzerider wasn't her age, more a
contemporary of her father's, but she thought she remembered him.

"I think that's where he Impressed. He transferred here from the North."

"And you're more fun ... and more handsome - than he is?"

N'vanik chuckled. "Absolutely."

"I might have to take your word for it, since I can hardly remember him. And
you're trustworthy, right? Not prone to exaggeration?"

N'vanik tilted a hand back and forth. "Some slight embellishment, maybe." He was
in a playful mood, still riding high on the events of the Hatching.

"Hmm. Slight embellishment." Rayche smiled. "I'll have to keep that in mind.
Anything else I should know about or should I just report to the Wingsecond?"

"Be careful of the sun. I don't know if you've lived anywhere tropical before,
but sunscorching and heatstroke are real problems." Then he smiled again. "So,
with that bit of seriousness out of the way, you can go report to R'enh."

"I'll do that. Thank you, sir." Rayche sketched a salute and left the
Weyrleader's office, pleased with the way the interview had gone. She had the
feeling N'vanik's wing would be an interesting place to fly.
