Saibra blew a strand of her hair out of her face in frustration as she
reached up and tugged her scarf away from her neck. The back of her
thickly knitted shirt felt as if it were plastered to her back and she
thought there might even be sweat beads breaking out underneath her
leathers.
**Good grief.** It was hard getting use to the extreme cold of the
outside and then coming into the warmth of the Weyr. She had just
finished a set of drills with Sienna Wing and already she was
picturing her short cut-off cotton shorts, and thin tank top that was
tucked beneath her pillow.
She smiled and nodded to a greenrider that she passed in the hallway
as she headed for her weyr.
Ma'din turned the corner and came face to face with a woman he'd not
seen before. Blue eyes flicked to the knots and one brow arched
upwards. "Well, if it isn't the new Weyrwoman." He flicked his gaze
over her with appreciation. "Better than the last one."
Saibra was momentarily thrown off-kilter as she looked up into an
alarmingly familiar face. Only, at first she couldn't quite figure out
if she knew this man or not. She did pick up on the compliment though,
and her full lips tilted into a grin, "I never got to see Hygalia, but
I will take your word for it."
"You weren't missing much. She had a stick shoved so completely up her
ass that it poked out her nose." He crossed his arms over his chest
as he flicked a gaze over her again. "Don't know yet if you've got the
same stick."
It came to Saibra then why the man looked familiar, and she tilted her
head, "Are you related to D'hol at Dolphin Cove by any chance?" She
said, even though she had heard his prior comment.
That brought an immediate narrowing of his eyes. "That old fecking
bastard?" A sneer curled his upper lip. "Unfortunately, yes."
Saibra was amused by the instant venom D'hol's name brought to the
conversation. **Does he have that effect on everyone?** She wondered
with amusement, "How are you related?"
Ma'din's expression never changed. "I forgot you were from Dolphin
Cove. Don't tell me that you're yet another goldrider he's gotten his
hands on? The man is fecking well prolific."
"He never got his hands on me." Saibra amended, not that she would
have minded. **Must be his son. Exact same facial structure. It's like
a younger version of D'hol.** And that in itself was intriguing. D'hol
had been prickly as well when she first met him, so it was no surprise
that his son was the same, "Yes well, it seems he has settled for a
weyrmate and family now. Don't tell me you have a daddy complex." She
cocked an eyebrow, a little grin on her lips. The man had an obvious
chip on his shoulder.
"My only issue is that he's still alive." There was a snort as she
moved to walk past her.
**Definitely has a father complex.** Saibra thought with a grin, "Oh
and your name? Will you tell me or shall I have Chioneth ask your
dragon?"
He stopped, his fuller lips thinned by irritation as she continued
grinning. "Ma'din, rider of brown Aznith. And when you see that
miserable bastard again, you can remind him that I'm still here."
Saibra couldn't fathom what about Ma'din she found so amusing, but she
did. Maybe it was because he was different from the other men she had
met at Dragonsfall. He wasn't some stuffy, well-mannered, bore. Rude,
yes, but boring, no. "Well, should I see him, which I doubt I will, I
will not forget to tell him that you are alive, and still hating his
guts."
Ma'din glared at her for the grinning, but his lips twitched as though
fighting an answering grin. "You're a goldrider, you'll be seeing him
from what I understand. Young beddable weyrmate or not, he'll want you
eventually if he doesn't already. His child of a mate won't stay with
that old whershit for ever."
"I don't know why he would come all the way to Dragonsfall. He has
Cyradis at Dolphin Cove, oh you have a sister you know, and then a new
pretty goldrider just reappeared at Dolphin Cove before I left, and
then there's Meledei. So when the day arrives that D'hol wants a piece
of gold flesh he has plenty to choose from where he's at." Saibra
pointed out and then added, "Besides, just because he wants it doesn't
mean he'll get it. Most people tend not to like him you know, as I
imagine you must have a similar problem."
Ma'din went still and stared at Saibra, his brows lowering. A sister?
"And did he kick her to the curb too? He has a tendency to do that."
His eyes narrowed. "I don't have issues with women coming to my bed,
thank you."
She rolled her eyes, "Typical man. I didn't say anything about women,
I said I am sure you must have trouble with _people_ liking you." And
that was being polite.
He shrugged. "Does it look like I care?"
"No, but you probably always look that way."
"That's probably true." He admitted it openly. "I usually don't."
She chuckled a bit, "At least you are honest right? That's a far more
likable quality than cheap groveling."
"Don't see the point in lying about the obvious." He shrugged. "And I
shaffing well don't grovel. Only time you'd see me on my knees would
be if..." he tilted his head. "You were naked."
Saibra's blue eyes lit with amusement, "Then perhaps I might see you
on your knees someday?" He was rude, true, but at least he was more
exciting than the other dull men that inhabited Dragonsfall.
He shrugged. "Sure. Sometime. But the talk about D'hol hasn't exactly
put me in a bedding mood."
The Weyrwoman laughed, "Then maybe next time, brownrider." With a wink
she turned and sauntered off, still pulling off articles of clothing
as she went.
He couldn't help it, he watched her as she walked away. And he enjoyed it.
