Description: Rorela and Saibra meet and talk mutual interests.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 9 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned; G'nir, P'nal
She'd not seen G'nir for at least a sevenday outside of drills, so had
little knowledge of how he was faring since the loss of Hygalia and
the arrival of the new Weyrwoman. He'd been distant, which was
understandable; it wasn't as though they were regular bed partners,
even as much as she might have wanted to be. G'nir didn't seem to want
that from her. She walked to his weyr door and knocked.
It was Saibra who opened the door, one hand tucking a strand of her
hair back into place as she offered a polite smile, "Oh, hello," she
blinked at the other woman, not sure if she knew her name, but
recognized her face, "the Weyrleader just left." She stepped out into
the hallway, and realized that she had failed to tuck in one side of
her tunic.
A myriad of expressions crossed over Rorela's face: curiosity,
irritation, amusement and resignation. No wonder she hadn't seen
G'nir; he'd been otherwise occupied. She knew of course who the woman
was. Rorela sighed. "Well...that didn't take him long." A half-smile
crossed her face. "I was just checking on G'nir. I guess he's doing
just fine."
"Any Weyrleader who is remotely good-looking usually _is_ doing just
fine." Saibra said with a shake of her head, although there was the
hint of a smile. She really was pleased with the fact that her
Weyrleader was nice to look at, it could be a lot worse, she had seen
some hideously ugly bronzeriders. They did exist. She noticed the
Wingthird knots, "Ah, you are Rorela then."
Rorela nodded. "And you're Saibra. Well, at least he's not moping."
Her lopsided smile wasn't as bright as it normally would be, but she
shrugged off the feeling of disappointment. She'd hoped that Hygalia's
absence would finally allow G'nir to open up to her more. So much for
that thought. She shrugged it off and turned her attention back to
Saibra.
Saibra didn't miss the look on the woman's face, and it came to her
then that the Wingthird was perhaps a little more than just the
Weyrleader's Wingthird, or at least, she wanted to be, "Grab a drink
with me in the Dining Cavern? I feel as though we should get to know
each other. I mean, in the event that both G'nir and P'nal die in some
bazaar accident, why, that makes you the first female Weyrleader!" She
grinned.
"Sure, but should that event happen, I regret to say that as lovely as
you happen to be, I'm not bent that way." There was now a playful grin
on Rorela's face that matched Saibra's. "After you."
The Weyrwoman led the way down to the Dining Cavern, "I was sure I was
lovely enough to even make holder women swoon." She grinned as she
lifted her hand to one of the drudges in the Cavern and then took a
random seat amongst the rows of tables. The drudge turned to disappear
into the kitchens for the Weyrwoman's nearly habitual evening glass of
wine. She could take it in her weyr, of course, but Saibra liked being
available to the weyrfolk, especially if she hoped to garner their
trust after their last Weyrwoman deserted them.
"Good thing I'm not from a Hold then." Rorela replied with a wider
grin. Maybe this new Weyrwoman wouldn't be so bad. She sat across from
her, curling her legs under bottom to get comfortable. "Weyrbred and
love it."
"Praise Faranth! Another weyrbred!" She lifted her glass in salute,
"If I run into one more holdbred prude who is afraid to show a little
skin I am going to scream." Saibra was really getting disgusted with
it. What was wrong with this people?
"Well honestly, not too many people here show skin like they do at
Dolphin Cove. There's that small matter of frostbite and I think I'd
prefer to keep the men here with their dangly bits intact. I rather
enjoy them."
"You can show skin without going naked. G'nir nearly bit his tongue
off when I answered the door wearing," she glanced sideways at Rorela,
"well, a lot less than what I am wearing right now. You would think I
had grown another head. Apparently _Lady_ Hygalia would never have
deemed to answer her door in something so indecent."
There was a chuckle and Rorela nodded. "She wouldn't have. Very
proper, Hygalia. They were quite the pair." She glanced at the
approaching drudge and nodded when she was offered a glass. "G'nir
needs a bit of shaking up."
"Oh he's gotten a bit of that lately." Saibra put her glass down, "But
what about that Weyrsecond of his? I met him the other day... He is
strange. Gave me this whole speech about how the food here is so
hearty as to put meat on the bones which gave strength for flying."
She rolled her eyes.
"Good. I've been trying, but he's known me forever and I guess I just
didn't make enough of an impact. I'm a greenrider and I'm expected to
be a bit wild." At the mention of P'nal, Rorela wrinkled her nose.
"P'nal's a good rider but he's a bit dull. All work, no play and has
the personality of a drugged wher. Good in flights, but don't expect
much elsewhere."
Saibra laughed, she liked this greenrider, "You summed him up exactly.
Trying to make conversation with him was like talking to a door."
"Well, I have to work with him daily." Rorela took a sip of the poured
wine and then relaxed with a sigh. "Don't hold out too much hope for
G'nir, at least in public. He's...very serious and Hygalia leaving
hurt him more than most people realize." She'd tried to comfort him,
but hadn't been much help. In truth, sometimes she wondered why she
bothered.
"I don't really care much about what he's like in public as long as he
appears to be a good Weyrleader. I am more interested in the private
sector." She chuckled. If they could work together in bed then they
could work together in public.
She gave a crooked smile at that. "He's damn good in that regard, but
you've already figured that part out, I reckon." Rorela couldn't
dislike the woman; she liked her as a matter of fact. But she would
simply have to get over her lust for G'nir. He'd be far too busy. Ah
well, she'd done without it for turns and there were others.
