"Good evening." Esiah spoke to the woman that was seated already in
the Dining Cavern. He generally sat with whomever had an open seat- he
enjoyed meeting new people anyway. This woman he thought he
recognized, only because he had been doing portraits and practicaly
stalking the leaders of the Weyr in order to get them to sit still for
a picture. This woman, he was sure, was the one that was weyrmated
with the Weyrleader. Well, "weyrmated" seemed to be the appropriate
term but he had been told, by Saibra, that Talryne and N'vanik did not
actually live together. The holder in Esiah didn't understand, but to
each his own, he supposed.
He set his tray down beside of her, "Are you saving this for someone?"
Talryne blinked at the man. "Um... no. Do you want to sit there?"
Esiah's plan was going well, he decided as he took a seat beside of
Talryne, "Thank you. I am Esiah, by the way, and you are?" Even though
he knew her name he had never been formally introduced to her.
"I'm Talryne." She offered her hand. Though she still had her bad
days, it was getting easier to interact with people. Even strangers.
"It is a pleasure to meet you miss Talryne. The Weyrwoman said that
you might be able to help me out with a little problem I am having."
Esiah said as he lightly seasoned his food.
"What problem is that?" Why would Cyradis direct this man to her?
Esiah laid his fork down, "I am a painter and I am painting portraits
of all of the goldriders to put in the Weyr's archives. I was hoping
to do the same with the Weyrleader.... Men, however, tend to be a bit
more difficult to convince to sit down for any length of time for such
a thing. Cyradis suggested that perhaps you might be able to help me
convince him."
"Oh. Well, she's right that he's not exactly patient." Except when it
came to her. "I think you should ask him and if he gives you trouble
I'll help you out."
The crafter flashed a smile, "Excellent. I cannot ask for more than
that... Would you like to be in the painting with him?" He could
always make a replica without Talryne for the Weyr's archives of
Weyrleader portraits.
She shook her head. "Oh, no. If this is for the archives, it should be
just him." It would be an official record, and she was nobody
important. "Although, I would like a small copy, if you wouldn't
mind?"
"I could manage that for you." Esiah smiled, although inwardly he was
very curious as to this woman and her relationship to Weyrleader
N'vanik. Whenever he saw the Weyrleader the man was with one of the
goldriders, Esiah couldn't remember having seen N'vanik and Talryne
together before. A complex relationship indeed.
"Thank you." Maybe it was silly, but she liked the idea of having a
picture of him in her weyr.
Esiah waved his hand, "It's not a problem. What do you do around the
Weyr?" He asked curiously. He was still getting to know peoples'
crafts and stations.
"I'm an apprentice weaver." There were many reasons she was glad she'd
taken up a craft, one being that she could introduce herself with a
title.
The harper nodded. He considerd it like artwork in many ways,
especially the masterful tapestries that some created, "Is there a
particular area of weaving that you enjoy?"
"I like working on tapestries. The patterns... I like working them
out." A tiny stitch here or there could make a difference in the
overall look of the piece.
Esiah ran a hand thoughtfully over his beard, "So if I sketched a
landscape for you, could you turn it into a tapestry?"
"I ... could." She tilted her head. "If you're interested in a
commission, you should ask someone else. I'm only an apprentice." Tal
knew she was always improving but she wasn't satisfied with her skills
yet.
Esiah shook his head, "But if I spoke with someone else that would
deprive me of the opportunity of working with you. I am not really
interested in a commission just two artists sharing talents." He
smiled.
That sounded suspiciously like flirting, and though it gave her a
flutter of nervousness, she also kind of liked the idea. "Sharing
talents. I suppose that could be interesting." Talryne even managed a
slight smile.
The harper returned her smile, "Yes, I think it could."
