Description: Saibra goes to meet Dragonsfall's only other adult goldrider.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 16 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Cyradis, Hygalia, G'nir, Jaela, Kapera, Traelyn, N'vanik, S'vin
Saibra had gotten her things settled into her weyr, Saidrene was
safely sulking in the Candidate Barracks, and Kaibren was getting
acquainted with his new foster mother. This left Dragonsfall's newest
goldrider with some time on her hands and the first thing she wanted
to do was meet Onnyth's rider- Teseada. Saibra hadn't been at Dolphin
Cove long enough to become acquainted with the Dragonsfall Weyrleaders
via a Hatching or some other event. She knew very little about the
Dragonsfall situation, at all, except for what Cyradis had told her.
At Dolphin Cove, Saibra had felt that she and Cyradis had a wonderful
working relationship, and a budding friendship as well that Saibra had
not experienced with another goldrider in a long time. She hoped to
establish such a relationship with Teseada.
}:Onnyth, my rider would like to know if it is all right for her to
visit yours?:{ Chioneth inquired politely of the much younger gold.
}:Of course,:{ came the reply. }:My rider says not to mind the mess,
she's stripping down her flame thrower.:{
Saibra went to Teseada's weyr and knocked politely before opening the
door. Sticking her head into the weyr she smiled, "Teseada?" She
stepped in, her eyes roving over the different parts of the other
goldrider's flame thrower that were lying about.
"That's me," said the younger goldrider as she got to her feet
grabbing a rag to clean the worst of the grime off her hands. "Sorry
about the mess, the agenothree wasn't flowing right last fall and I
needed to get it sorted out."
The new goldrider waved her hand, "I have two children who are some
times in and some times out of my weyr, depending on their fancy, so I
live in a constant state of messiness it seems." Saibra smiled and put
her hand out to Teseada, "It is nice to meet you Teseada."
"And you," the rag was cast aside as Teseada took the offered hand.
"There's just me here most of the time," she said with a grin. "Apart
from when I have company."
Saibra nodded, "I was hoping we could get to know each other a little
bit since we'll be working closely together. Right now between the two
of us you are the expert here on how the Queen's Wing works and the
social norms around Dragonsfall."
"I wouldn't call myself an expert with all the upheaval we've had here
in the turns since I impressed, but I'll do what I can." Teseada
counted, "Since Onnyth found me, the Weyrwoman's slot seems to have
rotated a lot.... Jaela, Kapera, Traelyn..."
Saibra's eyes widened, "That many huh? So, is the position cursed or
is G'nir just that difficult?" She teased with a chuckle, knowing
neither were true, or at least, she had not received a poor impression
of G'nir and no one at Dolphin Cove had said anything negative
regarding the Dragonsfall Weyrleader.
"Don't get me started on counting Weyrleaders.... This place needs
some stability." The words were simple, but the meaning obvious.
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I have no plans to go any
where. I am sure every goldrider says that, though." Saibra smiled, "I
told Weyrleader N'vanik the same thing when I joined Dolphin Cove, and
I meant it.... But with the acquisition of another experienced
goldrider there, and Hygalia leaving here, I sort of felt... Squeezed
out." The goldrider shrugged.
"I've never thought of it that way," Teseada said, gesturing to her
couch. "I was born here at Dragonsfall and impressed here."
Saibra nodded, "I am originally from Far Island Weyr and was there my
entire life until I went to Dolphin Cove." It had been hard leaving
her home but with two senior goldriders above her, Saibra knew that
there had been no need for her at Far Island any more, not when
Dolphin Cove was in need of an experienced Weyrwoman's Second.
**And now here I am at Dragonsfall.** Not even a full Turn had been
spent at Dolphin Cove.
"When are the next set of wingdrills for Sienna Wing?" She asked.
"Tomorrow, which is why I'm trying to fix this thing here. The plan
was to have some target practice."
Saibra gave a nod, "Excellent, I will come and observe tomorrow then.
What should I know about the wingriders in Sienna?" There was always a
mixed ratio of pregnant, injured, and regular wingriders that made up
the Queen's Wing.
"Z'ado is one to watch. His brown is recovering from a scoring well,
but it's affected his confidence, which is why he's with us for a
while. I think he was a little more shaken up by it than we thought.
Welinka is pregnant, and almost to the point where she should be
grounded until her baby comes. Her weyrmate is a healer and he asked
me to watch her." Teseada paused for a moment. "Apart from that, I'd
look out for S'vin, he's a possible wingthird some day."
The older goldrider mentally filed away the information, "Thank you,"
she glanced around, "well, I will leave you to your flamethrower. I
need to also go make a call to the Headwoman."
"I don't think I'd be worthy of my Technician knots if I can't fix it
myself," Teseada said. "Do you know how to get to the headwoman, I can
show you the way?"
"Would you mind?" Just from initial impressions, Saibra felt that she
and Teseada were going to work well together. Time would tell. That
left her to meet the new gold Weyrling at Dragonsfall and determine
what sort of young woman she was, and what type of goldrider she would
most likely to become.
"It's not a problem, I need to go pick up a smaller screwdriver anyway
to get this last piece off so I can clean it."
