With Nisha being looked after, N'vanik returned to Rhosyn and gave her
a little bow. "May I have this dance?" he asked with a smile.
"Hmmm....I don't know....you look like a dangerous bronzerider....." One of
her brows rose though the look she gave him was playful. Rhosyn hid the
hint of her dissatisfaction well. It was a Hatching and she had a daughter
to be proud of.
"The danger is what makes it fun." He offered a hand with a glint in his
eye.
She took it and followed him onto the floor. Weyr relations were also
important to consider. Besides, Rhosyn did love to dance. "Let's see if I still have
it."
"I'm sure you do." He put a hand at her waist and moved to the
mid-paced song. He wasn't sure if he wanted the song to be faster or
slower. A slower song would invite closeness and he still wasn't sure
where he stood with her.
For a moment, it felt like it used to when she spent time with him.
She remembered what it felt like when he touched her. It had been so long.
Rhosyn followed his lead, getting used to dancing again. Her body had
changed slightly and it was something else she had to get used to until she
lost the weight.
"Mmm." His hand slipped lower. "You're a bit... curvy. I like it."
N'vanik also liked the way her fuller breasts pushed against the
fabric of her dress.
"And my nipples are sensitive, but that's besides the point." Thankfully,
the baby had already eaten so Rhosyn didn't have to worry about another feeding. She
had been told if she didn't do it regularly, it could hurt and she didn't want
any of that. Not to mention she didn't want her daughter to starve. No, to her being fed
was important.
"Shards I'm tempted to see just how sensitive."
Knowing it would probably be a few months before she could get pregnant
again, even if she didn't use a quick jump, Rhosyn didn't worry about that.
At the moment, though, she didn't want to just jump into the furs with
N'vanik. "Before you're tempted about anything, I think there might be a few things
we need to discuss...in quiet."
"Oh?" He wondered what that could be. Just then the song ended. "Well,
I suppose now's as good a time as any. Lead the way."
Walking back with him to her weyr which was just about the only private
place in the Weyr just then, she trusted U'das to keep the baby until they were
done. When they got there, she made her way to her sitting room and sat down at
the table. There was a basket of food on top of it as well as a pitcher of water
she kept. Her mind was racing, wondering just how she was going to do this-how to say
it. **How can I do this? I love him.** Her heart was screaming but it was better
for him to know.
N'vanik watched her. "I'm going to guess it's bad. You don't look too
happy."
"I think it's time to be honest and to get a few things out there." She
sighed and looked at the table, anywhere but at his face. "I've been thinking while I
was pregnant and I've come to realize a few things. The first one being that if I had not
gotten pregnant you might not have spoken to me again when you were so angry with me."
N'vanik sighed. "True. Everything changed when Nisha came along, and I
wanted to be there for you." Given time, the hurt would have faded
enough that he might have been friendly with her. But he didn't think
it was likely he would have visited outside Hatchings and other official
visits.
"Which brings up the point...I love you but you don't feel the same about
me." She was being honest with herself and him and it felt good to finally get it
off her chest. "I understand it now and it's okay. That won't change. You
have Talryne and your Weyr. I think it's time that I...try to do something
different."
He nodded, giving himself a moment to think. He didn't know if he was
hurt, or relieved, or sad, or upset. All of those things at once. "If
things had been different... if we'd met at another time... but I
can't give my heart to someone that isn't open with me. That doesn't
consider my feelings."
"You wouldn't have anyway. Even before that..." She knew that now. "So..I
will always be your friend. And of course you're more than welcome to visit
Nisheyl whenever you like. We'll see each other from time to time but I have
to want someone who doesn't have limitations and who will actually want me
back. It's unhealthy." She didn't mention that sitting around in her weyr
lonely wasn't doing her any good. She didn't want his pity. No, Rhosyn was someone
to be wanted and if he didn't want her just because of that sunburn stuff,
then he never really wanted her anyway. He never would.
And just like that, she felt like she was taking her life back. She felt
better about things. She had possibilities. Sure, she was upset that she had to close the
door on him. Out of all of them, he had been the one she was sure about. And then,
he had done something she'd never thought he would.
N'vanik sighed again. She didn't get it. She never would. Rhosyn
didn't want a relationship, she wanted some kind of pet that would
adore her no matter how she treated it. "Yeah, it's unhealthy." No
matter what arguments or misunderstandings he had with Tal, they
always apologized, they always felt bad when they'd hurt the other,
intentional or not. That was a relationship. That was love.
At least he and Rhosyn could end this calmly. Breaking up without
shouting or drama... there was a first time for everything. "Good
luck, Rhosyn."
