}:Xmrenth where were you Hatched?:{ Orlaith's brand of conversation
wasn't very frilly but she was trying to be curious.
}:Dragonsfall.:{ Xmrenth replied as he spied a nice meadow to land in,
}:Would you care to land? I think my rider would like to stretch his
legs for a bit.:{ The bronze suggested.
}:Xmrenth's rider wishes to land:{ Orlaith passed on, leaving it up to
her rider. Her muscles were not even flagging and Rhosyn had to get
used to being back in the saddle again if she was going to fly the
Threadfalls coming up.
The goldrider realized this was as much a social visit as a business
one. **We can land**
}:I do not see any dangers. We will land there:{ Always prudent and
realizing that her safety was paramount, the queen began to circle,
surveying the area more closely before she did land quite gracefully
despite her size. Orlaith's eyes whirled a serene blue as she waited
to see if anything came out at them, able to spring up if needed. When
nothing did, she settled so Rhosyn could unstrap and shimmy down.
K'lvin unclipped his riding belt from Xmrenth's straps and hopped to
the ground, eagerly stretching out his back and legs. The meadow that
they had landed in was grown up with wild flowers and K'lvin had to
admit that it was a really pretty spot. So far the territory
surrounding Riverbluff had been nothing but beautiful, especially
compared to the cold of Dragonsfall.
"Are you from the River Bluff area?" He asked, as Xmrenth complimented
Orlaith on her graceful landing.
Taking off her jacket, helmet, and goggles she put them into the
harness bag. With ease, she managed to get a blanket she always kept
in there as well as some things she'd pilfered from her headwoman
earlier. Or maybe they had appeared in her weyr in a basket... Rhosyn
began to set it all out as her dragon settled onto the ground,
spreading out over the sun. Orlaith did something she couldn't do in
the Weyr Bowl. The golden queen spread her entire body out- from
wingtip to wingtip and tail to snout. She was going to sun properly.
She also dwarfed her rider.
"No. I Impressed at Vista Point actually. I came here a little over
two turns ago." Had it really only been that long? She frowned,
realizing she had done so much in so short a time, including having
her first child. Still, River Bluff was now her Weyr and she was going
to try to do whatever she could for it. "I was born in a cothold in
Baili Hold though."
K'lvin sat down with the Weyrwoman at the edge of the blanket while
Xmrenth stretched out as close as he could to Orlaith to catch some
sun. Their bronze and gold hides seemed complimentary, K'lvin thought,
as he watched them, "I think I do remember hearing about a new
Weyrwoman, but when I was at Dragonsfall and not in any sort of
leadership position I rarely kept up with news from the other Weyrs.
Being a Wingleader now," he lifted his shoulders, "has made me a bit
more aware."
"I came in at about the same time Hygalia did," she remarked, trying to
give him a reference point. Something else popped into her mind. N'vanik
had been at Dragonsfall. Maybe K'lvin had known him then. "We fly joint
Threadfalls with Dragonsfall sometimes since we share a boundary so it's
necessary to know what's going on there." Rhosyn sat down and got comfortable.
Grabbing some of the food, she offered him some and popped a bun into her
mouth.
Perhaps that was another reason then, K'lvin pondered, K'sedel had
thought him a good fit for Wingleader. Having been at Dragonsfall his
whole life, K'lvin knew the Weyr and its territory like the back of
his hand, and understood well how the Wings there worked and flew.
"Have you enjoyed River Bluff then? As compared to Vista Point."
Clouds passed over her face for a few moments as she remembered what
life had been like before for her. Rhosyn had been one of the few goldriders on
Pern that had never lived a life of privilege before she'd escaped her former
Weyr. She didn't have many good memories of it except for those involving
Orlaith or even R'enh. "I have freedom here to do whatever I want and no one
that can tell me otherwise. I know my daughter will also. River Bluff will be my
home till the end of my days and I am thankful for it." There may have
been times she wished she had gone to Dolphin Cove instead but life
was what it was.
K'lvin thought that a peculiar response to his question, but supposed
he was to glean from it that she had not enjoyed her time at Vista
Point. Still, it seemed as if she had resolved herself to River Bluff,
not necessarily because she loved it there, but because she had the
authority there.
"Yes, well, I hope for River Bluff to be my home till the end of my
days as well. My daughter has certainly settled in and seems to enjoy
it as well."
"So how is that working with your new duties?" She was still confused over
that one, but she didn't need to accept the way he did things. She was also glad
to change the subject.
A little smile crossed K'lvin's face, "It is working out well,
actually. Two evenings out of the sevenday I wrap up any office work I
have and Kylena stays with me. Her foster mother picks her up in the
morning before I leave for drills." Luckily, he had found the foster
mother that took care of Kylena to be incredibly easy to work with.
"Well that's good." And right then and there, she ran out of things to say to
him. Not a conversationalist by any means, she continued to eat, using
the moments of quiet to look around, measure him up physically, and to
look over at Orlaith who was certainly enjoying herself.
"Do you think you will do something similar with your daughter?"
K'lvin asked, curious if the Weyrwoman's viewpoint on children had
changed since having a baby.
"Will I see her from time to time? Sure. I will visit, but I will not
have her regularly in my weyr. Her home is with her fosterparents
since they are much safer for her to attach herself to. I want her to
think of them as her parents and know they have full authority over
her. I never saw any of my parents once I was fostered. N'vanik will
probably see her sometimes too." Neither of them could raise her, nor
did they have the time, as Weyrleaders. K'sedel had shown no interest,
though he had the same demands on his time, as well as other children.
K'lvin contemplated that for a moment before he looked at the sun,
"Well, milady, we should probably be heading back. This has been a
nice little trip. Thanks for coming with me."
"Please don't call me lady. Ever." To soften the rebuke, she got up and started
to fold up the blanket, going about her business.
