Riven heard a bit about what happened from whispers in
the infirmary, and though she burned to know more, she
wouldn't stoop to checking on the file of a patient she
wasn't treating. Instead she waited two days, and then
set out for Bahji's quarters. Hopefully by now her friend would be
feeling up to a visitor.

"Bahji? It's Riven," she called when she arrived.

Bahji had just started packing when she heard the voice and stilled, her hand on the top of her bag. Taking a deep
breath, she lifted her chin and replied softly. "Come in."

"Hey." She looked around the room, which she hadn't seen before. "How're you
feeling?"

Bahji took a deep breath. "I've only felt worse when I was battered with broken bones." She felt along
her bed and found another skirt. She picked it up and shoved it into her bag.

"At least you're not in a sling today." She hesitated. "Do you want some help?"

She would've rather been in the sling than feeling that gnawing emptiness inside of her again. She was never
doing that again. She never wanted to feel this way again.

Lost in her thought, she didn't answer Riveneeta right away until she had to shake herself to the present. She turned towards the familiar voice and nodded. "Could you make sure I haven't eft anything in the dressers?"

"Sure." Riven moved over and checked them. She
found only one, and passed it over. "Here you go. Are
you visiting your folks, then?"

"I'm leaving." Bahji replied softly. "I don't know if I'll be back. I don't know if I can come back."

"I guess this isn't the life you hoped for when you came here," she said after a moment. "I'm sorry it's been so hard."

Bahji stopped and tears slowly began to drip down her cheeks. "No..It was. I was so happy. I have friends and
I can do what I love to do." She wiped at her eyes. "But now when I smell dragons, I think of what happened. He took me /between/, Riven. Without asking me. He just decided on his own. I wanted to try to have my babies. I would have risked anything to have my babies. Now...now it's all I can think about. "

"He took away your choice?" Both the friend and the Healer in her were outraged. She winced at her own
volume. "That's unconscionable."

Bahji turned away. "He said that it was better that
I lived. He wanted me to live." Her face was drawn.
"That I could always have others. But, now...I never
want to feel this way again. Ever."

She didn't want to see her friend leave, but she
could understand feeling bitterly betrayed, not wanting to experience that feeling again. "I understand. Do your
parents know you're coming back?"

Bahji nodded slowly. "I sent Burst to my mother this
morning." She stopped and her hands twisted on the bag
that held her belongings before dipping into it and pulling
out a knotted cord. She spoke softly. "Riven, why would
he leave these with me?"

Maybe it was unintentional, but maybe it was a message. "He wants you to remember him? Hopes you'll forgive him eventually?"

Her hands tightened on the knots for a moment before laying them on the bed beside her things. "I can't exactly forget him. " Her lips thinned. "And how could I forgive him for doing that to me? Knowing how much I wanted..." She stopped and took a deep breath, then shook her head. She would not cry more!

"It'll take time before you can even think about it. And I wouldn't blame you if you never did." What a sad topic. She wasn't sure she could make things better. "Maybe being back home will clear your head."

"Perhaps."
