Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 25 of Turn 7

Esiah was very pleased with himself for having set up this
appointment. He had never dreamed that the Senior Weyrwoman would be
the first of the leaders to agree to a portrait. Of course, he knew
that the lady was pregnant and he didn't doubt that being with child a
little to do with her accepting his request. He would make the
portrait into two- one of just the lady's face, and the other with a
wider shot that showcased, what he heard, was a nice size pregnant
belly.
With his supplies slung over his shoulder in his art bag, Esiah walked
to the Weyrwoman's weyr and knocked on the door, one charcoal stained
hand running through his hair as he waited.
"Yes?," Cyradis said as she opened the door. Then she stepped back and
waved the Harper into her Weyr. "Come on in," she smiled.
Esiah ducked his head politely as he entered the Weyrwoman's weyr,
"Thank you again, ma'am, for agreeing to the portrait." He said as he
glanced about her weyr, his detailed honed eyes already gauging where
would be the best location for lighting.
"Not at all," she waved her hand. "I've never had one done before so
this should be an interesting experience."
"If you would sit right here ma'am." Esiah indicated with his hand as
he pulled out his supplies, "I count it an honor then to be the
first." He smiled as he drew up a chair and fetched one of his
pre-sharpened pieces of coal that he was fond of using to sketch. It
was then and would allow him to work with quick, precise strokes.
Cyradis sat where he indicated and smiled up at his comment. "How long
is this going to take today?"
"Not long," Esiah assured her, "today I will get down the preliminary
sketches and shading." He told her. The actual paint and color he
would add later. If he were to try and do it all in one go the subject
would have to sit nearly all day.
"Alright," she smiled. She had at least a candlemark before her
meeting with N'vanik so she sat back to relax as much as she could
while the Harper did is work.
Esiah made easy conversation while he began sketching the outline of
the Weyrwoman's figure as she sat, "How far along are you, ma'am?"
"About two months to go," she smiled. Her baby was active rolling and
stretching and occasionally kicking. She knew she looked farther along
than that because of her tiny frame but that was not to be helped.
"Hoping for a boy or girl?" Esiah asked casually, starting to shade
detail in about the Weyrwoman's appearance.
"I have both already but I think K'deren would like a son," she
smiled. He hadn't really said anything beyond wishing for the babe to
be healthy.
Esiah smiled at that. Most men liked to have a son to take after them
or to pass down family traits and names, "Are your other children
excited about having another sibling, then?"
"My youngest is pretty excited and K'deren's two," she chuckled but
the older ones could care less."
His brow furrowed a bit as he worked on capturing the way the light
gleamed on her hair, "Forgive me for changing the subject, but what
would you recommend would be the best way to go about convincing the
Weyrleader to sit down for a portrait?"
"I can mention it to him but you might have better luck with his,,,"
she didn't quite know what to call her actually. "Talryne," she
finished and a shrug.
Esiah felt a little chuckle escape, and he raised an eyebrow as he
peered over his work, "His Talryne?"
"Their relationship is hard to explain. She's is about as close to a
Weyrmate I'd imagine N'vnaik to contemplate. But, they don't live
together in the same weyr. She is the one he turns to and relies on
for his emotional well being." She hoped the simplified explanation
was enough for the Harper. Relationships in the Weyr were sometimes
difficult to understand, even for Weyrfolk. "Our relationship, his and
mine, is strictly business." Of course flights went without saying,
but she didn't sleep with the Weyrleader outside of them and was
fairly sure that information was common knowledge.
The man shook his head, smiling at the confusing description, "I think
I understand.... At least, as well as a holdbred man without a dragon
can, anyway. I am rather glad that I don't have a dragon, to be
honest, the relationships seem to complex for me." Esiah shook his
head, and then a frowned marred his features as he set about correct
an error in the sketch.
"I was hallbred myself," she said. "So I understand how difficult it
can be to adjust to."
}:But I chose you:{
**Yes you did my love,** she replied. **And nothing else mattered after that.**
A large golden head poked itself through the curtain to her ledge and
a whirling green eye peered at the visitor.
At first Esiah didn't see Panitath, but then a golden glint in the
corner of his vision captured his attention and he looked up to smile
at the large green eye that was clearly watching him. Esiah wondered
if dragonriders ever caught use to the sheer size of their lifemates,
"Madam Pantitath." He said with gusto, inclining his head toward her
with a smile.
Panitath acknowledged the Harper by slowly blinking her eye and
withdrew her head. "But the joy of a dragon and rider pairing is
something that has to be experienced to be believed," she answered
softly. "It is someone else who loves you completely, forever."
Esiah glanced back at Cyradis, "I cannot imagine ma'am, such devotion
and love. Truly dragonriders are very lucky people, and I am very
lucky to be allowed to capture it." He smiled.
"We are very lucky," she nodded. "I hop you do capture it."
