Saibra

Saibra

"Saibra, these records are out of order." Meledei frowned at the
files that she'd pulled from the shelves and sifted through them. She
glanced over at the Weyrwoman second and held them up. "I've been find
them more and more often in the wrong place."

Saibra frowned as she looked up from her desk, "What is it?" She asked
reaching up to rub at her eyes from where she had been reading.

"I've been finding records in all the wrong places for several days
now and it's getting worse." Meledei brought the files over and
sifted through them, separating them into the proper piles so she
could place them in their proper places. There was no accusation in
her voice for she knew it wasn't Saibra who was causing the problem.

"Who has access to the records besides you, me and Cyradis?" Saibra
asked, leaning back in her chair as she pondered the problem.

"Harpers, Wingleaders, anyone else who works in here." Meledei sorted
them out then turned to place the files in their proper sections.
"It's not just annoying, though, it's worrisome. If something
important isn't in the right place, who knows where it will be,
especially when it's needed?"

It was annoying, Saibra agreed, especially if something very important
were to be misplaced. Saibra, for one, was a fan of recorded
information and the value it held. "I would have to discuss it with
Cyradis but theoretically we could commission a harper-archivist,
perhaps a journeyman to make sure that the records here stay in
order."

"I suppose. But maybe we should see if we can find out who's doing it
first. Or maybe we should do some training sessions with everyone who
uses it, make sure we're all on the same page." Meledei didn't want
to use valuable resources to hire someone to do something they
themselves might be able to resolve.

Saibra considered it for a moment, "Well, we could have everyone sign
a ledger when they take out a record out and then see if we have
greater success in knowing who had the record last. Then we would know
if they had been returning things to the correct place."

"Well, there's the sign in ledger...but you mead have them start
writing down what they'se using when they come in here?" Meledei
nodded. "Worth a shot, then I guess we can see who's causing the
problem and see if we can resolve it with them personally."

"Sounds like a good solution for the moment then." Saibra stood from
her chair and went over to her warmer where she poured a pitcher of
klah, "Oh, by the way, have you met with Esiah yet? He was coming
around to all of the goldriders wanting portraits. I think he is even
going to try and wrangle N'vanik and D'hol for one." She shook her
head. N'vanik_might_ go for it, but she couldn't imagine D'hol ever
agreeing to it.

"Yeah, actually, I already posed for him." Meledei sat back down in
her own chair then swung around to face the other goldrider. "We got
rained out, but he says he thinks he can finish it."

"It is an interesting project." Saibra mused, "I look forward to
seeing all of them when he is finished. I have only seen mine so far
but I know that he met with Cyradis first. He is rather likeable, don't
you think?" She pried lightly.

"He seems nice." Meledei hadn't really spent_that_ much time with

the man. "I'm curious to see what his style is like, but I'll have to
wait until the painting's done."

Saibra sighed, it seemed as if all Meledei wanted to talk about was
the man's painting experience. He was far too good looking for that,
but the young goldrider was probably still hurt over T'nom, at least,
Saibra guessed, since Meledei did such a good job of hiding any of
that. "I think you will like it, at least, I really liked mine."

"May I see it?" Meledei knew they would be placed somewhere public,
but she hadn't seen Saibra's portrait yet, so she wondered if the
goldrider had it in custody for the moment.

"Of course." Saibra stood from her desk, "Let me grab it from my
weyr." She retreated through the doorway to her weyr for a moment
before reappearing. In the painting, Saibra's hair was inky black and
flowing down her shoulders, which was different than her normal daily
wear since she kept it pulled back. But she had insisted it be that
way in the painting. "Here it is."

"Pretty!" He was very, very good and there was a hint of envy in
Meledei's breast even as she admired his work. "Why don't you ever
wear your hair like that? I mean, I know it would be horrible for
drills and Fall, but it looks good that way."

Saibra chuckled, "I like to call that my bedroom hair," she grinned a
little, "so typically when I am working I have it pulled back. Let's
people know I am being serious." She liked having that distinction
between the work and personal parts of her life.

"Bedroom hair?" Meledei's eyebrows darted upward as her gaze slid
from painting to woman. Well, that probably revealed something she
really didn't need to know. "Interesting. Well, it's pretty like
that." Not that it wasn't nice pulled back, but it was just nice to
see the difference in the Weyrwoman second.

The older goldrider laughed softly, "Come on, everyone has bedroom
hair. When you let it down and just don't care what it really looks
like." Especially if a man had just had his fingers through it, that
was always the best.

"Yeah, well, it was more the way you said it." Meledei offered a half
grin. "Or maybe I'm reading too much into it. Regardless, I like
that look."

Saibra propped the painting up in the other empty chair across from
her desk, "So how are you holding up, Meledei?" She raised an eyebrow
and tilted her head, "After the T'nom thing, I mean." She knew the
younger goldrider would never bring it up, but she wanted Meledei to
know she was open to listening if Meledei needed someone to talk to.

It was a sudden change of topic and one that wiped any shred of a
smile from Meledei's face. "Uh..." Exactly how was she going to
answer that. "I'm fine." Angry, upset, outraged of a little boy who
couldn't think with the proper brain, but yeah, fine. Completely.
Utterly. Totally.

"It is a good thing I am a woman, because I know that 'fine' means you
are exactly the opposite. You don't have to talk to me about it, but
should you need someone to talk to," Saibra raised her hands as she
lifted her shoulders, "I am always available."

"Okay. Yeah. Thanks." Thing was, while Saibra and hse had been
working together since her acceptance to the Weyr, Meledei wasn't
really that close to her. Honestly, Meledei had a lot of friendly
acquaintances, but lately, she'd lost most of her close, close
friends. "Thanks." She repeated, her tone a little more sincere.
"I'm okay for right now, though."

Saibra knew she was going to just have to let it go, "Good. Let's get
this new system for the records room implemented then and see if we
can get this problem fixed." She returned to her desk chair.

"Yes ma'am." Hopefully they would find the issue soon. Meledei
wasn't a neat freak, but when it came to records, she, like the other
goldriders, wanted them where they belonged.
