Holding Breath

Writers: Chelle, Paula
Date Posted: 7th May 2014

Characters: B'jon, D'lorn
Description: B'jon and Denenth go /between/ under D'lorn's guidance.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: H'vack

B'jon's guts seemed to have turned into one, heavy, constrained lump of lead by nerves. He was constantly wiping his hands against pants and going over and over the visualization practices. This was it, the DAY. If he survived his first /between/ with Denenth, he would be officially a senior weyrling.

Villith was waiting. This was a dangerous exercise and one that D'lorn didn't relish. Still, the greenrider understood it was his duty. They had split the weyrlings into groups. The bronzes and browns went with the Weyrlingmaster. He got some of the blues and greens. Then one of the other staffers would be handling some of the others. D'lorn had put them into a line after inspecting their straps. He had already taken two through and back successfully. Feeling better about it, he sat astride his dragon and looked to see who was next. }:Denenth are you and yours ready?:{

}: We're ready, :{ Denenth assured her.
** You're ready, I'm nerve wreck,** B'jon murmured to her in private.
}: We'll do fine, relax, :{ Denenth's voice was both cheery and confident.

"Both of you rise with us. We will give the coordinates, then we all go at the same time. If for any moment you are unsure, do not go." D'lorn couldn't stress that point enough. A few moments and Villith was airborne. The green hovered above the Star Stones, wanting that to be the image that was strongest in all the weyrlings' minds. It would get them home should something happen. The greenrider formed the image in his mind. It was above Garnet Valley Hold-a place they would be running errands to once they were longer in their /between/ training. He sent it to Villith, who in turn sent it to Denenth. }:This is where we will go:{

Denenth followed the older green, graceful in the air now. She received the image and sent it onwards to B'jon.

**Garnet Valley, right, never been there before,** B'jon noted and fixed the image in to his mind's eye.
}: We're ready, :{ Denenth reported to Villith.

}:Send the image back to me so I know you see right:{ Villith needed to check it. That's where the danger could be. The green was patient, glad that Denenth's flying was more than adequate.

}: Here, :{ Denenth sent the image from B'jon to the older green. If she was asked, it was a very clear image. After her rider stopped being in a tizzy over /betweening/ his confidence had returned. Denenth found his solidness assuring...of course it was one reason why she had chosen him. They were matched.

}:Allright, we will go first, then you will come after. Remember focus on that image and let nothing else come into your mind:{ Villith warned them, before the green began to fly just enough to disappear. She came out above the Hold, waiting for them.

** All right, let's go!** B'jon signaled to his green and held his breath...and the image in his mind.

Denenth blinked /between/.

** One...two..three...** and then they were out and cold air blasted against B'jon's face.

}: You can breathe now, :{ Denenth said with amused tone and B'jon gulped in air. He looked around. Mountains...check, hold, down below, check. Villith, check. B'jon felt jubilant. They had made it! They were in right place and in right time. No mishaps, no getting lost to /between/.

}: Are you going to hold your breath every time we go /between/? :{ Denenth asked curiously.

**No, probably not, ** B'jon replied sheepishly.

Feeling relief, but trying not to show it, D'lorn found himself smiling. }:Good work! Now you will follow us back. Place the image in your mind of the Star Stones:{ Villith waited to examine the image. This was still very dangerous and she didn't want to lose any of her weyrlings.

"And back home," B'jon murmured and created the image for Denenth, who sent it to Villith.

When she was sure everything was allright, Villith let D'lorn know. The two of them got ready and then gave the signal to go /between/. This time, they went with the other greenpair and then came out, searching for them.

Denenth came out /between/ two dragon lengths behind Villith. Staying in formation while /betweening/ was something they still needed to learn, B'jon noted mentally.

}: Over here, behind you! :{ Denenth called to Villith. She beat her wings to catch up with the older green's.

}:Well done little one! Land and rest now so we may take the others:{ D'lorn allowed himself to breathe. Now he had to do it all over again.

}:Thanks, :{ Denenth replied and started to circle down towards the weyrbowl. B'jon leaned to pat her neck.
