Drills had been difficult today, but K'ran thought he'd done
remarkably well. He had changed out of his flight leathers into a
simple tunic and pants, and now he was winding his way across the
Weyrbowl towards the caverns, sniffing the air appreciatively and
trying to guess what lunch would be.
Chaysea was still getting use to her role as Headwoman at Dolphin
Cove. Of course, it was still just a trial, but she was loving every
minute of all the new experiences she was getting at the Weyr. For the
holdbred woman it all seemed one great adventure, and she hoped that
she was able to prove herself to N'vanik and Cyradis so that they
would let her stay. She had an armful of supplies tucked beneath each
arm when she served by someone in the Weyrbowl. Glanicng up at the
figure, her brow furrowed in confusing for a moment as she said,
"Corran?"
K'ran had automatically stepped aside to let a woman he didn't know
pass by, as she looked very busy. He wans't expecting her to say
anything to him. But then she called him by a rather familiar name.
"Uh, I'm K'ran." He looked at her packages. "Do you need help?"
Her frowned deepened as she noted the shoulder knots on the man's
shoulder indicate that he was a bronzerider. How was it possible....
"I'm sorry," Chaysea felt a blush heating her cheeks as she realized
that this couldn't possibly be the Corran that she knew, "I just...
Know a man that could be your double!"
He grinned, realizing what was going on. "My name's K'ran. Keiran. I
think you might know my twin?" he guessed. "Are you from Amethyst
Cliff or Amber Hills?"
Chaysea's shoulders sagged a bit with relief- she wasn't going crazy!
She smiled, "Yes, I'm from Amber Hills, I met Corran while I was
there. He never mentioned that he had a twin brother."
"He thinks mentioning me will earn him special treatment. Or at least
the fact I'm a dragonrider." K'ran understood the desire to prove
yourself on yur own merits, so he didn't wear his knots when he
visited. "Are you two friends, then?"
"You could say that," Chaysea said wtih a tilt of her head, "I was
stationed at the Vintner Hall as the Headwoman there." She shifted to
accomodate the weight of the items under her arms.
"Can I take some of those and help you where you're going?" he asked,
holding out a hand.
"That would be wonderful." Chaysea flashed a grateful smile and
relinquished the box of items to K'ran's hands, "It's just some odds
and ends that I need to sort through and get inventoried into the
storage rooms." She told him, leading the way toward the Headwoman's
office.
"From the Vintner Hall to the Weyr...must be quite a change, both in
climate and culture." He headed after her.
"It is a lot to get adjusted to," Chaysea admitted as she led the way,
"obviously there are a lot of things about the Weyr that are very...
different than the way I was raised." But if she were to tell the
truth she was loving every minute of it.
"I can imagine. It wasn't easy for me to get used to it either." And
she was older than a lot of the Hold- or Hall-bred people who came to
the Weyr. "If you ever want a ride back there to visit your family, I
can take you," he offered. It would give him a chance to see his
brother.
Chaysea flashed a smile as she bumped open the Headwoman's office door
with her hip, "That would be great, K'ran. My brother and sister are
both back in Amber Hills. My neice just Impressed to gold Lissath over
at Dragonsfall, and so with the both of us leaving.... Well, it would
be nice if I could visit."
"A gold? How wonderful! You must be so proud." He'd heard about
Dragonsfall's fortune, but it was nice to meet someone who knew the
newest goldrider on Pern. "Feel free to ask me anytime you want a ride
to either place, then."
"Thanks, K'ran, I will." It felt good to know that she had at least
one friend at the Weyr, and if he was Corran's brother, she was sure
she could trust him.
