Description: Talryne and Jeyme talk about the men in their lives.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 5 of Turn 7

Loseth bespoke Quinneth. }:Is yours busy? Talryne says she would like
to visit. She is my rider's mate.:{ The bronze didn't mind relaying
the message for her.
}:Jeyme says she would love Talryne to come over.:{ Quinneth relayed
back to her recent bronze mate.
Jeyme smiled as she zipped around her weyr, picking up and
straightening things before Talryne's arrival.
Talryne wasn't sure if she should bring something, so she took a small
bag of knitting supplies. If there were awkward silences, she could
fill them with one of her class projects. "Hello," she said after she
got permission to enter. She'd long ago adjust to weyr life, but it
was still a bit strange to know her new friend had just slept with
N'vanik.
Despite her best attempts at leaving all of her holdbred culture
behind, Jeyme couldn't help the small trickle of apprehension she felt
when she saw the other woman. She _had_ just slept with N'vanik and
admittedly enjoyed it, "Hey Talryne, come in have a seat, I was happy
when Loseth contacted Quinneth."
"He doesn't mind giving messages for me, although it's usually to
N'vanik." Talryne sat on the couch. This weyr was almost as big as
N'vanik's and it was much neater. "He was happy to relay to Quinneth.
I think he's still gloating." Loseth had bragged about how he caught
the green.
"Quinneth was so pleased that the 'Weyrleader's Bronze' caught her. If
she wasn't so sweet she would brag more about it." Jeyme took a seat
on the couch beside of Talryne and tucked her feet beneath her, "Is it
weird that N'vanik won my flight?"
Her shoulders lifted and dropped. "He wins flights all the time."
She'd been a rider, she knew what mating flights were like ... but
there was still that little bit of discomfort. "Are you okay with it?"
"He was very nice to me, Tal. I would have rather had D'hol win, of
course, but N'vanik made my first flight nice. And trust me, there
were some riders there that would _not_ have been nice." She pulled
her knitting out from where she kept it stuffed in the cushion of the
couch.
Some of Talryne's discomfort eased and she took out her own knitting.
"Then I'm glad."
Jeyme felt more comfortable now that the hard part of the conversation
was over, and she smiled as she began knitting, "So tell me, Talryne,
how did you and N'vanik meet? How long have you been together? Dish.
Tell me all."
The good and bad of it twisted up inside her and made her feel
strange. "We knew each other at Dragonsfall, but it was just fun.
Then..." It wasn't easy to say and she wondered if it ever would be.
"I... lost my dragon. N'vanik took care of me." The icy black cold of
her loss, the warmth of his unexpected kindness.
"Oh, Talryne," Jeyme reached out and put her hand on the other woman's
arm, "I'm sorry I didn't know, I wouldn't have asked." She couldn't
imagine life without Quinneth and the void that it would cause for her
to be gone. No wonder there was such a tight bond between Talryne and
N'vanik.
She must be getting better if Jeyme hadn't realized something was
wrong with her right away. "It's okay. I forget sometimes that
everyone doesn't know."
"Is that why you came to Dolphin Cove?" Jeyme asked curiously.
"I came because he did. He won the Weyrwoman's open Flight and when he
moved he took me with him." At the time she'd been so worried about
Traelyn, and now she was worried about Rhosyn. For all that he claimed
to hate goldriders, he sure did chase after them.
It actually made Jeyme feel good to know that hers wasn't the only
complicated relationship on the Weyr, "And why don't you live in the
same weyr?"
Talryne straightened out her needles and yarn. "He never asked me to
move in, and it's good for me to have some independence." The corner
of her mouth turned up. "Plus he likes to hide in my weyr sometimes so
people don't bother him."
Jeyme laughed out loud at that, "Oh, that is very clever of him. I
hadn't thought about it but it must get bothersome being the
Weyrleaders. Everyone knows where you are located and probably try to
bug you at all hours of the night and day over stupid things."
"What about you and D'hol? That seemed ... sudden." Talryne had heard
that bit of gossip from the weavers, how Jeyme had moved in with D'hol
while she was still a weyrling. And the loss of the baby, she'd heard
that, too.
"It actually wasn't as sudden as it seemed." Jeyme smiled a bit as she
squinted down at her work and began picking out a knot, "Not long
after I Impressed Quinneth we were assigned to meet and interview with
the Wingleaders. I was assigned D'hol. I _dreaded_ it because I had
heard so much about him through the rumor mill already." It made a
warmth blossom in her chest as she relived the memory, "He was
arrogant, imagine that, and kept giving me that tone of voice that
said he didn't think I could be as good a rider as the weyrbred
Weyrlings."
She wound a knew color of thread around her needle, "After I received
a letter from my parents that I was disowned I cut off my hair," she
pointed to the chin-length locks, "and that was the start of my...
rebirth, you might say. I was, and am, determined to leave behind my
holdbred raising and embrace the Weyr completely. D'hol seemed..
impressed by that, and we began talking, nothing scandalous, mind you,
I was still very much off limits as a junior Weyrling, but that is how
we got to know one another."
"When Quinneth and I became Senior Weyrlings suddenly everyone was
consumed with sex. People who'd had sex before Weyrlinghood were
anxious to get back to it, and those of us that were virgins wanted to
'get it over with' so we wouldn't be surprised come mating flight
time. The Weyrwoman tried to set me up with other riders," she
wrinkled her nose, "but I was dead set that I wanted D'hol to be the
one. I asked him, he said yes, and the rest is history. Despite that
one night we continued seeing each other and then I got pregnant, and
you know the rest." Jeyme smiled, it wasn't the most romantic story
but it was _hers_ and it was special in her eyes.
Talryne listened, her needles moving in a familiar rhythm. She didn't
think weyrmating the first man you slept with sounded like embracing
weyr life, but she wasn't going to say that. "So you fell in love
right away?"
"Not really," she laughed softly, "it was mostly just sexual
attraction at first, but then...." Jeyme shrugged her shoulders, "I
don't know, little things about him just started sticking out. We
probably never would have weyrmated though were it not for the
pregnancy. D'hol is... D'hol is very adamant about taking care of what
he deems is his."
**Possessive, too.** Although she shouldn't judge. N'vanik could be
very possessive himself. Talryne made an amused noise. "Bronzeriders."
