Description: Saidrene fuels the crush she has for Jenackt by eating lunch with him
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 12 of Turn 7
Notes: Ahhhh, awkward teenagers <3
Mentioned: Xandris
Ever since that day in her mother's weyr when Jenackt had saved her
life, Saidrene couldn't help but watch the boy. It helped that they
had Candidate lessons and chores together. Since Saidrene had grown up
in the Weyr, and with a goldrider mother no less, she found most of
the lessons to be dull repetitions of information that she already
knew. So she used Candidate lessons as a way to watch and get closer
to Jenackt. He really was cute, she decided, in a loner-type way.
When the class was dismissed for lunch, Saidrene fell into step beside
of Jenackt, "I wanted to say thanks again for the other day." She
tucked a strand of her long, inky black hair behind her ear.
He was not used to any of the other Candidates approaching him except
for Xandris, so when the familiar dark haired girl fell into step
beside him, he was uncertain as to what exactly she was doing. It took
a moment for him to realize who she was and remember the incident.
**Saibra's daughter...** Looking at her from under a lock of hair that
had fallen over his brow, he gave a non-committal shrug. "Don't worry
about it."
Saidrene smiled, too enthralled by being close to Jenackt to even
consider that he might be trying to dismiss her, "I am glad that you
reacted so quickly. Death by red fruit is not exactly how I imagined
dying."
The way she was looking at him was a little disturbing. Jenackt
glanced around, cleared his throat and nodded. "I don't imagine so.
But I did surprise you, so it's okay." Her eyes were following him. It
was...odd. "Really, it's no problem."
The female Candidate remained in step beside of Jenackt as they
entered the Dining Cavern and fell into line, "I didn't think lessons
would ever end today." She said conversationally as she began placing
things on her plate.
She was still beside him. What exactly did she want? Jenackt glanced
at her and picked up a plate. She hadn't asked a question, so he
didn't comment on her statement. He really had nothing to say about
the length of the lessons; to him, they were always long, even though
they were sometimes interesting. He picked through the offerings of
food, selecting only meat and vegetables, avoiding the sweets.
"Is this going to be your first time standing?" Saidrene asked as she
picked up a bit of this and a bit of that to put on her plate. For
whatever reason she had been completely oblivious to Jenackt until
meeting him in her mother's weyr.
"Uh. No." He picked up a glass of water and moved to his customary
seat. It was in a corner, with his back to a wall. He set his plate
down and settled into his chair, only to look up and see her there. He
blinked slowly. "You can tell your mother that my manners are fine."
Saidrene raised her eyebrows as she took her plate and klah and sat
down with Jenackt, "Why would my mother care about your manners?" She
asked, obviously confused.
"Isn't that why you're following me?" He looked at her as she sat with
him. "To let Saibra know that I'm not chewing with my mouth open or to
make sure I'm making polite conversation?"
The girl still had one eyebrow quirked as she shook her head, her long
hair rippling over her shoulders at the motion, "No, my mother doesn't
discuss," and here she stopped and crooked two fingers into the air,
"'business' with anyone. Not even her children." Her mother had some
strict rules about that sort of thing.
"Then why are you here?"
Saidrene's eyes cast about the Dining Cavern before falling back onto
Jenackt, "To eat?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Well, yes...I know that." He took a bite of his bread and eyed her.
"No one ever sits with me."
The girl raised her shoulders flippantly, "Well you _do_ scowl a lot."
Saidrene pointed out, certainly her mother's daughter as she spoke her
mind.
He opened his mouth, frowned and then closed it, thinking. He looked
at her and his brow relaxed as he scratched behind his ear. "Well...I
guess I do."
Saidrene smiled as she glanced up at him from her plate, "There you
go. A neutral expression invites more interest. Unless you are wanting
to eat alone every day." She got the feeling that Jenackt didn't mind
his privacy.
His frown returned immediately and much like he was reading her mind,
he shook his head. "I like eating alone."
"It must be driving you crazy then to have someone sitting here having
a conversation with you." She said, her lips still tilted up as she
brought her cup of klah to her lips.
He shrugged. "No. Just not used to it."
Saidrene looked up at the wall then, "Well, you are not half bad at
it. I have duty in the dragon infirmary." She gathered her tray and
stood, "See you later."
Jenackt blinked. She'd complimented him. One brow arched at her and
for a moment his lips lifted. It wasn't a full smile, but it was a
start. "Sure."
As Saidrene left the Dining Cavern she exhaled a slow breath, trying
to release some of the flutters that had built up in her stomach. She
had actually EATEN LUNCH with Jenackt. **Today is a great day!** She
decided.
