Jeyme was glad that she would be graduating from Weyrlinghood soon.
With the end drawing near, the Weyrlings had a little more free time
on their hands and she had spent hers knitting and sewing again, a
pastime which she had really enjoyed when she lived at the Hold. She
was currently working on a scarf for D'hol, it was beautifully colored
in the colors of Dolphin Cove. Of course she knew he would never wear
it, not even when he visited one of the colder Weyrs, but still she
enjoyed the thought that went behind it.
She heard her weyrmate leaving the bathing pool that was attached to
their weyr. He was suppose to be meeting to have dinner with K'deren
and discuss some things for the Wing.
Scrubbing a towel through his hair, D'hol came into the weyr and moved
to rummage through their wardrobe to find a shirt. He found one,
turned and blinked at Jeyme, arching a brow and then shrugging before
pulling the shirt over his head and running his hand through his hair
to settle it into place. As he tucked the shirt into his pants and
picked up his belt from the foot of the bed, he looked around with a
frown. "Where are my boots?"
Without even looking up Jeyme answered, "Under the table." The man
had the habit of kicking off his boots by the table where he spread
his threadfall sheets. Dutifully, Jeyme collected the boots every
evening and stacked them neatly beneath the table so that they
wouldn't be tripped over in the middle of the night.
"Ah." D'hol nodded and buckled his belt before bending to tug his
boots from under the table. Sitting beside Jeyme, he tugged them on,
his mind already on the upcoming meeting. "It shouldn't take too long.
A candlemark, at most and we can go for supper, if you like.
He rose, but bent to brush his lips over her brow before standing
completely straight.
Jeyme accepted the comfortable gesture, her eyes never leaving her
knitting as she looped another piece of yarn, "Love you, see you
later." She said casually, her brow furrowing as she realized that she
just knotted the wrong color, ruining the pattern she had been working
on.
"Mmmhmmm...later." He stopped by the table, scooped up some charts to
tuck them under his arm and strode out of the door, boot heels clicking
along the stone path.
The greenrider's head snapped up, her brow pulling down, "Mmmhmmm
later?" She said, mimicking the man's last words. The wheels in
Jeyme's brain began churning rapidly. Had she ever heard D'hol say
that he loved her? Had he ever expressed any sort of deep emotion for
her?
"No, he hasn't." She answered out loud.
Here her weyrmate was still pining over Cyradis, a long lost _LOVE_ ,
and yet he could not even say that he _LOVED_ Jeyme? What about all of
those hours she had spent sitting by his bed waiting for him to wake
up? Terrified that he wouldn't pull through. What about his child that
she had been so happy to carry, even if only for a short while? What
about all that she did around the weyr every day? Keeping his clothes
and shoes picked up.
"Oh, we will be having a talk when you get back." Jeyme muttered to
the empty space, her knitting needles clicking together furiously.
