"Father?" U'fouinn called, entering his father's weyr. U'fouinn had
made it a habit to stop in at a certain time each sevenday to check up
on U'das and to touch base with him. With his father's mortality
staring him in the face, U'fouinn had easily put aside all the old
hurts and the two had forged a much better relationship.
"Hello, U'foiunn," U'das answered from his bed room. He tossed last of
the clean clothers from the laundry basket to the clothes trunk. His
late weyrmate would had sighed and rolled her eyes if she had seen it.
"How's D'arvn doing?"
U'fouinn walked towards his father's voice.
At the question, U'fouinn replied, "He is getting better. He should be
home in our weyr soon. I've missed him terribly."
"I'm glad he's recovering," U'das answered. "He's a good man." He
dropped the trunks lid down. "You want something? Klah, juice?"
"Some klah would be nice," U'fouinn replied, then added, "I honestly
don't know what I'd do without D'arvn in my life. He's become as solid
as a rock for me. I was so worried during his recovery."
"I know the feeling," U'das said from the bottom of his heart. He had
lost his long time weyrmate to Thread. It had nearly killed him. He
went to fetch them mugs and pot of klah.
He appreciated the support from his father. It felt good to know
someone truly understood. He waited for him to return and accepted the
cup of klah.
"How goes your work with the weyrlings?" He asked. He knew the
transition hadn't been easy on U'das, but so far he seemed to be
taking it all in stride.
"It's actually quite fun. Those little weyrlings are so adorable...and
nerve wrecking. Hardest part is to remember that I'm not the one
giving orders," U'das replied.
"Aye, I bet that is hard after being in charge for so long," U'fouinn
replied. "Is the new Weyrlingmaster easy to work with? I haven't
really talked to him much since he arrived."
"Yes, we got along just fine. We have similar thoughts about the
weyrling training," U'das replied and sipped from his klah. Then he
grinned a bit. "Did you hear what your cousin was doing in my bath
pool?"
U'fouinn gave his father a _look_ at the last. Now what could she have
gotten herself into this time? Probably anything, he mused, knowing
Uetia.
"No, I didn't hear," he replied. He'd been so busy with D'arvn that he
had missed much of what else was going on.
"Invited herself and her weyrmate to it, for bit of a fun. Just when I
wanted to use it," U'das told him. He could laugh at it now.
U'fouinn laughed. "Now I bet that was quite a sight to see!" He could
only imagine how everyone reacted to that situation.
"Yes," U'das grinned. "If you and D'arvn ever want to borrow it,
please, let me know _before_, so I can stay away."
U'fouinn wasn't sure he would ever be comfortable with doing _that_ in
his father's weyr, but he tucked that information aside. Perhaps he
_could_ manage, and it would be a nice experience as well.
"I will, don't worry," U'fouinn replied.
"Good. There are things you _shouldn't_ know about your young
relatives," U'das replied.
"Let's keep it that way," Ulfouinn replied. "I should probably be
heading back to see if D'arvn needs anything."
