Namarina tucked the sheet around the bronze rider with a steady hand.
Like many in the infirmary, she had been called from her regular
duties to aid with injuries coming in from the day's Fall, but it
appeared as though this man's was the worst. The external bruises,
especially the one on his temple weren't the worry, she had been told.
He and his dragon had been struck by lightning during the Fall and
despite smelling salts and prodding from his pained dragon, he refused
to wake.

Jeyme had been in class earlier that morning. Of course with her weyrmate
lying unconscious in the infirmary it had been hard to concentrate. As she
had the day before, Jeyme left class and went straight to D'hol's side. She
walked in to find the healer adjusting the man's bedding, "Any change?" She
asked hopefully.

Namarina lifted her head and shook it slowly. "No, I'm sorry." She settled
the light blanket over his chest before looking at Jeyme with sympathy.
"They tried the smelling salts again this morning and there was no reaction.
No visitor has been able to get him to wake." She paused, wondering if it
were her place to continue, and bit her lip as she moved around the cot,
carefully avoiding the bronze tail that trailed nearby. The large bronze had
bugled insistently until they had moved the rider to his side. Many of the
healers were hoping that the bond would encourage the wingleader to wake.

"Oh." Jeyme replied, a sigh of despair evident in her voice as she sat down
heavily in the chair beside of the bronzerider's bed. She thought back to
the night before the Threadfall. It was the night she had come out wearing
nothing but a towel in order to seduce her weyrmate. Was that to be her last
memory with D'hol? It was a bittersweet memory. The sex had been great, it
always was, but the fact that she'd had to seduce him into it in the first
place stung.

"I'm very sorry." Namarina's one failing was that she didn't do well with
concerned loved ones. She faltered at offering the right words or what to
really do with them. She was better with the patients, not with those
worried about them. "I really don't know what to tell you. But.." She
glanced at the rider on the cot, his breathing slow, "they are still hoping
he will wake. He'll need to wake in the next couple of days."

"Yeah." Jeyme replied, barely listening to the woman's words as she folded
her arms across the edge of D'hol's bed. With her chin resting on her arms,
she watched the slow rise and fall of the man's chest, her eyes glancing
every so often at his face.

"Perhaps it's not my place, rider but.." Namarina took a deep breath,
"...perhaps you should prepare yourself. Some of the senior healers believe
that the lightning may have damaged his brain and that is why he doesn't
wake. He can't eat or drink like this and..." She hesitantly reached to put
her hand on Jeyme's shoulder. "A man can't last long without water, rider."

Jeyme's jaw clenched, grinding her teeth together as she answered, "He will
wake up." D'hol was the strongest person she knew. If anyone could survive
it, it was him.

The healer sighed softly. "I hope he does, I truly do. But if he does not
wake in two or three days, we'll lose him. There's not anything we can do."
She glanced at the bronze, who was now looking at them both and swallowed
roughly. "Uhm..but we _are_trying."

Yumath huffed softly, his eyes whirling with the beginning of anxiety before
turning to Jeyme. He lowered his great head and nudged her.

"He will wake up, Yumath. There is no way he would leave you." Jeyme ran her
hand along Yumath's muzzle comfortingly. She looked back at D'hol and
wandered what was going on behind those closed eyelids....

Yumath gave a soft huffing sigh and pressed his brow ridges towards her. He
spoke softly to her little green. }: I worry for my rider. Tell yours that I
understood the Healer. Tell her that he does care for her. :{

Jeyme looked up once Quinneth had passed along the message, **But not as
much as he cares for Cyradis.** The thought jolted through her mind before
she could even shield it from Quinneth. And true to the little green's
nature, she relayed the message immediately, as if it were perfectly
natural, }:She says not as much as he cares for Panitath's.:{

Yumath lifted his head immediately and stared at Jeyme, his head turning to
one side and then the other. }: That is stupid. :{ He blinked slowly, his
thoughts a distraction from his riders condition. Unseen, the healer crept
away, relieved to have Jeyme's attention off of her.

Yumath peered closely at Jeyme and spoke firmly to Quinneth. }: Tell her
what I say, word for word. My rider does care for Panitath's. He always
will. But Yours is his first weyrmate. Ever. He would not have done that if
he did not care. The caring may be different, but it does not mean it is not
strong. He respects Yours. He enjoys her company. She soothes him and brings
him pleasure. Panitath's does not do this. Ask her which does she think is
better?:{

Tears welled in Jeyme's eyes as Quinneth relayed Yumath's message. He
enjoyed her company? She soothed him and brought him pleasure? Why couldn't
D'hol just say that sometime? Jeyme wrapped her arms around Yumath's large
head in a hug, "Oh Yumath, thank you for telling me!"

Yumath blinked, but accepted the hug with a soft rumble. Females were odd
creatures. They should already know such things, they were easy enough to
see as far as he knew. But his next thought was of his rider, still laying
silent on the cot. He pulled his head away to huff over the bed, inhaling
D'hol's scent with longing.

"He will come out of it." She said in response to the bronze's huff. She
turned her eyes longingly on her weyrmate. **He _will_ wake up.**
