Description: Jeyme visits Arippa at Green Valley
Location: Green Valley Hold
Date: month 4, day 16 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: D'hol, Sh'del
Jeyme had been devastated when she had been unable to attend her
friend's wedding. She had Impressed Quinneth so near to Arippa and
Reven's wedding that it had been impossible for her to leave the Weyr
at the time. Then she had gotten pregnant... Since the loss of the
baby there was now nothing to keep her from visiting her friend.
Weyrlingmaster Sh'del had approved her trip to Green Valley, and Jeyme
was more than ready to be away from the Weyr for a bit. She needed
some distance from the place.
}:All set?:{ Quinneth asked. She was worried about her rider. Jeyme
had been more quiet and withdrawn since the loss of the clutchling.
There was an air of excitement about her since the mention of visiting
Green Valley. Quinneth hoped that it would cheer her rider up.
**Ready.** Jeyme confirmed as she gave her riding strap one last tug.

Jeyme had lived at Emerald Falls when she met Arippa, and had only
visited Green Valley once before, so the sight of the minor hold was a
pleasant surprise when she and Quinneth came out of /between/. It was
obvious that Reven had been hard at work renovating and repairing the
Hold. The new construction showed. Today would be the first time that
Jeyme had been back in Holdlife since the day she left Emerald Falls
for Dolphin Cove.
She nearly felt blasphemous in her tight riding leathers and fitted
tunic. No more skirts for her, but dragonrider clothing. Once Quinneth
had landed she jumped down from the green's neckridge and sent her off
to sun nearby. When she looked up she smiled at the familiar figure,
"Arippa!"
"Jeyme!" Arippa grinned and opened her arms. Her friend was a sight
for sore eyes. All the pent up emotion that she'd been carrying around
because of her uncertainties about Reven brought her near to bursting
but she didn't' want to ruin the moment by crying on Jeyme's shoulder.
"It's so wonderful to see you."
Jeyme felt moisture in her own eyes as she hugged her friend. There
was no one at the Weyr she could talk to, not like Arippa, no one else
understood her. Not even D'hol, really. "It is so good to see you too,
friend."
Arippa took her friends hand to lead her back into the hold. "How long
can you stay?"
"I have been approved to be away for a couple of candle marks." Then
her and Quinneth's presence would be expected back at the Weyr by the
Weyrlingmaster.
"In that case we need to get busy," Arippa exclaimed. That wasn't all
that much time for them to cozy up for a good chat and there was a lot
of information to share.
The women were soon settled in Arippa's private parlor with
refreshments laid out before them by the drudges, "So tell me all
about married life. Is Reven as promising in the bed as he looks?"
Jeyme grinned as she picked up a piece of cheese.
Arippa choked on the mouthful of tea she'd managed before that
question hit her. Coughing and sputtering she fanned herself and shook
her head at Jeyme with a grin. "What at thing to ask," she said when
she finally could.
Jeyme tossed her head back and laughed, "I am sorry, I guess I should
have warned you that the Weyr has rubbed off on me," she touched her
chin length hair, "as you can see."
"I can tell," she grinned. "Faldrimme visited a little while back and
she'd just been at the Weyr too. It was interesting." She took a sip
of her tea. "Reven is amazing," she smiled. "Though it's not without
it's bumps."
The greenrider took a sip of the hot klah that had been provided,
"What kind of bumps? I thought you two would be living happily ever
after down here."
Arippa looked down for a moment. If she could tell anyone it would be
Jeyme. She knew she could trust her friend not to spread rumors
anymore than were already rampant. "He has a mistress," she said
softly. "Possibly more than one."
Jeyme's jaw dropped, her eyes widening a bit, "No! How do you know?"
She asked, quickly picking up another piece of cheese.
"Rumors and overheard conversations," Arippa shrugged.
"Have you asked him about it?" Jeyme wanted to know. She felt
completely empathetic to Arippa's situation with all that had happened
with Cyradis and D'hol and the rumors that were constantly circulating
about the pair.
"No," Arippa blushed. "I haven't been able to get up the courage to ask."
"Oh come on, lady, he's your husband! What's there to be afraid of?
When I want to know something about D'hol I just ask him, and if he
doesn't like it he gets all blustery." Jeyme chuckled, "It's kind of
cute actually, but don't let him know I said that." She could imagine
the bronzerider's frown already at being called "cute." Especially
when he was wearing his "mean" face.
Arippa smiled "Well for one thing he's really big. But he's also
gentle. Maybe I just don't want to make him mad. Besides, it hurts to
think about. He promised me he would only be with me when we were
married."
Jeyme reached out and gave her friend's hand a squeeze, "He seems like
an honest man to me, Arippa, I am sure you have no reason to worry.
Besides, why would he look elsewhere when he has the prettiest woman
in the hold?"
She couldn't help the smile that lit her face. "Look who's talking,"
she said. "What about you?"
The greenrider sat back, a grin still on her face, "What about me?"
"Oh come on," Arippa crossed her arms and lifted a perfect brow. "I
need to know what's going on with you! Here I get mysterious messages
and pictures from my flit of you in the infirmary when I send an note
with Mystery but nothing from you to tell me what happened?"
"Ah. That." She said, some of the smile fading from her face, "Well, I
wrote you a little about D'hol, he is the one that gave you my letter
at your wedding. He and I had been... seeing... each other for a while
and then I found out that I was pregnant." Jeyme looked up at Arippa,
"He wanted me to move in to his weyr with him so I did. I only carried
the child for a couple of sevendays, and then miscarried. That is why
Mystery found me in the infirmary."
"Oh Jeyme," she breathed. "I didn't realize. Has he been kind to you?"
She only had a dim memory of the bronzerider who'd given her the
letter at the wedding. That day had been more of a dream than reality
anyway.
"He has been." Jeyme admitted, which would have been enough to startle
some people at the Weyr, "I am his weyrmate now," this admission cam
with a happy little grin that she could not hide, "and he said we can
try again for another baby."
"Oh," her face lit up. "That's like marriage in a Weyr isn't it?
Congratulations! I'm so happy for you."
Jeyme laughed, she guessed it was _kind_ of like marriage. Although
she could imagine the look on D'hol's face if she were to actually
_call_ it that, "Thanks." She looked over and suddenly stood up, "Oh,
I had better get going or I am going to be late getting back to the
Weyr. I don't know who would be more angry, the Weyrlingmaster or
D'hol."
"Come back when you have more time," Arippa stood. Then when Jeyme was
on her feet she pulled her into a fierce hug. She could tell her
friend had changed in many ways from her experiences at the Weyr.
"I'll miss you."
The greenrider returned the hug. It felt as if it had been a lifetime
ago that she, Arippa and Reven had went riding together. Life had
changed vastly for Jeyme, and now she and her friend were in two
completely different roles in life. "I'll come back soon." She
promised.
