Tsaera arrived early- it was a quirk of hers. The meeting room Rhosyn had chosen was near the Weyrleaders' offices, and outfitted with maps and charts on the walls and a large table to sit around and spread hides out on. It hadn't changed much since she;d left. The table had a few extra scratches, maybe, and the maps had acquired a few more pin holes since she'd last seen them.
She settled herself comfortably in a chair that faced the door and opened the folio of charts and hides Rhosyn had sent her. The contents were already familiar, but reviewing them helped calm her mind before she had to deal with the Weyrwoman and her Second. Tsaera was anticipating an interesting meeting. The group dynamics would be informative, and she was looking forward to seeing if her first impressions of Rhosyn were borne out. That, and it would be good to check in on Lenala and see how she was fairing with Rhosyn in charge.
"Hello, Tsaera, welcome back," Lenala greeted when she walked in. She had spent a better part of the candlemark fretting what to wear in Tsaera's presence. She wanted to show that she had matured. So, she had picked up clothes that covered most of her torso.
Tsaera smiled. "Hello, Lenala. It's good to see you. You're looking well!"
Rhosyn wasn't the fastest mover these days. Luckily, she didn't have to go far. With a skin of water in hand, she made it to the chair and huffed as she sat down. It was hotter than she ever thought it could be and she was sweating. Being heavily pregnant at a tropical Weyr was not a comfortable situation. Wishing she could be nude, in the lake, she was wearing a light yellow sundress instead. Putting hides from her other hand onto the table, she sat back in the chair and took a few drinks of the water before she nodded to the other two women. "Afternoon ladies. Tsaera, I hope you settled in well enough?" Rhosyn was in her old weyr, of course, and that fact was not lost on her.
"Well enough, thank you. You and Sol have set me up nicely," Tsaera said. The weyr would do. She glanced briefly at her folio, then back at the other two goldriders. "There are five topics I'd like to discuss today. I'd like to discuss how we're going to manage the transfer of Wing leadership in terms of timelines and messaging to the Wing and Weyr, how long you expect to be grounded, whether or not you'll be taking care of other duties such as post-Fall infirmary visits along with Weyr paperwork, how and on what schedule you'd like Wing reports from me, and to go over the Wing to discuss the changes that have occurred since I retired. Is there anything I missed, or that either of you would like to add?"
"The Wing has already been notified of the upcoming changes. So have the other Wingleaders, the Weyrlingmaster, and the Weyrdragonhealer. As far as the timeline, the change will occur when Vilarth clutches." She looked to Lenala to add in the timing for that. "I expect to be down for about three sevendays once the baby is born but will be unable to fly in a sevenday or so." That depended upon what Reeva said, but it was getting difficult to get up and down. "While Lenala is leading the Wing, I will be completing visits, hidework, and my usual duties until the birth. When she is grounded, she will assume some of those duties, then all of them after the birth." Rhosyn tapped her fingers against each other lightly, going over it all in her head. "Reports will go to me once a sevenday until the birth, then they will go to Lenala." They could go over the Wing changes now, naturally, though Tsaera would have most of that in the hidework and charts Rhosyn had sent.
"Vilarth can be very protective of her eggs, so while they are hardening, it may be impossible to get her out to fly a Fall," Lenala reminded everyone, just so that there wouldn't be misunderstandings.
"Of course. And no one expects her to," Tsaera said patiently. She'd been gone for a while, but she hadn't forgotten. "I'm assuming that until you're both grounded, I'll fly as Wingthird."
"You can fly as wingrider and observe or fly as Wingthird if you want to take on those duties now. It's up to you." Rhosyn hadn't really considered that. Especially since it would only be for a sevenday anyway. She would be down soon if her discomfort was any indication.
"I'd prefer to ride Wingthird for now. It will allow me to refit myself into the Wing faster than if I rode as a wingrider. I'll join drills two days from now, if that's acceptable-- I'll watch from the ground tomorrow to get my bearings."
Lenala just nodded. She would never ever dream about arguing or talking back to Tsaera.
"That'll be fine. So once I'm down, you'll be Lenala's Wingsecond until she's grounded." It wouldn't be a very long period of time, but she thought that might be interesting. She hoped Lenala would be comfortable enough to exert her authority over the other woman if it was needed. Rhosyn nodded to Lenala to affirm it.
"I'd also like to book a formal meeting between the three of us once a sevenday while this arrangement stands, separate from regular Wing meetings," Tsaera said. "I'd like to use that time to hand over the hidework, and to discuss any issues that may arise."
"That would be fine." So far, this was reasonable. That was a good thing. Rhosyn found herself slightly relaxing. Scratching her belly without thinking, she took another pull from the waterskin, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.
"That's fine with me too," Lenala said and if she had any doubts, she didn't show them outside.
Tsaera's only doubt was regarding Rhosyn's manners, but she kept that firmly to herself. So far the Weyrwoman wasn't living up to the gossip and her initial impressions, and the retired goldrider was more than happy to be proven wrong. "Good. Let's tentatively book for now the day before the restday at one in the afternoon unless there's Threadfall, in which case we can meet the day before. The only other thing I want to go over is the Wing roster. I've made a mark by each of the Wingriders I'm not familiar with. I'd like you both to give me a quick sentence or two about each-- why they're in the Wing, what their strengths and weaknesses are and any personality quirks I ought to be aware of before flying with them..."
Glad to let Lenala go first, Rhosyn had the faint feeling of being in a harper class. She didn't remark on it, though. Instead, she was secretly considering Tsaera while she seemed slightly distracted. In reality, she was anything but. Perhaps this would be interesting. Maybe, though, the two of them could just politely stay out of each other's way. Maybe.
For once, Lenala felt like she was standing on firm ground when she started to go through the rosters. After all, hide work seemed to be her best skill and up-keeping the rosters one of her main duties.
