Since Vilarth rose, it was painfully obvious they were going to have a
problem later. Rhosyn didn?t have a solution in mind so she knew it was
time to bring the issue to K?sedel?s attention. Calling Lenala into her
situation room in her weyr along with the Weyrleader, she munched on dried beef
while she waited.
Lenala walked in to the room. "Hello Rhosyn, how are you?" she asked, she
was feeling cheerful today. Vilarth's Flight sometimes had that effect on
her.
"Ladies," K'sedel nodded in greeting as he entered the room. "Would you like
me to order some refreshments?"
"I could use a cold drink, thank you," Lenala replied, sitting down and
crossing her legs.
The pregnant woman did have water as usual, but she welcomed him ordering
whatever everyone wanted. When the order had been put in and everyone was
settled, she brought up the obvious. "Well Vilarth had a good Flight and we're all
thankful for that-but it's going to mean that there's a point where both of us
goldriders will be grounded."
"I know," K'sedel said. "And I might be able to help a little with that one,
or I know someone who might be able to help us at least."
"Oh?" Lenala said. To be honest, it hadn't occurred to her that they might
have a problem. "I hope you don't mean dragging Tsaera out from retirement?"
"I had a letter from her," admitted K'sedel. "She's in need of a change of
scenery, not that I'd call this a spot for a good, restful holiday "
That name brought up many different emotions from Rhosyn and not all of them
good. Coming from a place where she been under the bootheel of another
Weyrwoman for so long, she didn't know if she liked a former River Bluff Weyrwoman
(who had served for many turns) coming back thinking they knew better. She was also
suspicious that K'sedel had received a letter and she hadn't. "What did the letter say and
when did you get it?"
He answered the second question first. "A sevenday or so back, it really
isn't important. Believe me, I wasn't even going to bring it up until this happened."
"Don't keep us in suspense, just spit it out," Lenala asked. K'sedel
obviously had a plan.
"How about we jointly write her a letter, asking her if she'd like to come
and help as cover? Make it clear it is just a temporary thing for her and
Tabarnith?" suggested K'sedel. "You ladies will need a wingleader, but that
is all, Tabarnith is too old to rise again, so it could never be a permanent
thing, and Tsaera knows that."
"So then when it was over, she would leave?" Having to admit that she didn't
have a lot of options, it was at least something to pursue, but Rhosyn still
wasn't sure. Her distrust of older goldriders had been well earned.
"And is she still fit to lead a wing during a Fall?" Lenala asked. Her
feelings were mixed. On other hand, she respect Tsaera greatly, but all her
memories of her weren't good one. Tsaera had been demanding and strict, in
her attempt to whip Lenala into a shape.
"Depends on her," K'sedel said.
"I think I'd like to talk to her first. I appreciate that the both of you know her well
and have worked with her in the past and the fact that she knows this Weyr
and this Wing but...I'd like to meet her before I relinquish so much to someone I
don't know." Not that the woman was any woman, had been in Rhosyn's own
shoes in fact, but the Weyrwoman wanted to make her own judgments before she just let
anyone traipse into her chair.
"Fair enough," K'sedel said mildly.
