Description: The pregnant woman has cravings.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 12 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Solieira, Briata, Y'gel, Cosani, Reeva
Rhosyn had made her rounds. She checked on the Infirmary's sick
riders. She had finished the last of the Record notations. Even her
list with Solieira was done. It was a miracle. Still, the Weyrwoman was
looking a bit tired as she came around the corner of the tunnels. Stopping to
rest for a moment, she pulled her waterskin from her belt and took a long drink.
**I'm hungry. I want some of those fruity things they made at the
Weaver Hall that one time. With those tubers and the green spices.**
Her head began to swim with images of food.
}:Loseth-mine is dreaming about food again:{ Orlaith didn't understand
it. She never wanted crazy things to eat when she was egg heavy. Sending
some of the images of the things the woman was craving to the bronze, she
hoped Rhosyn wouldn't strap up and make her go and find them.
**What if we just went to Sunstone? They have those pies...**
}:Mine you're tired. You need a nap.:{ The queen informed her quickly.
**Yes I'm tired, but we would just need a little jump.**
}:What if Loseth's brought it for you?:{
**I suppose that would be fine**
With a put upon tone, the queenly mindvoice came back. }: Please have
yours bring her things she likes. Or she will not sleep. These food
thoughts never stop.:{
}:Orlaith's rider wants these things,:{ Loseth told N'vanik, sending
him the many pictures of food. }:Orlaith wants her to rest, but she
wants these things to eat.:{
Being asked to fetch a wide variety of food, some of which seemed to
be quite specific, didn't sound like a fun way to spend his free time.
On the other hand, he did find it amusing that Rhosyn was in the midst
of the famous pregnancy cravings. **I guess we're going out to find
her some treats.**
He made a few stops on the way to River Bluff, the Holds and Halls
surprised at the unexpected visit. He shared a few laughs with the
bakers and cooks over his reason for coming, and they told him he
wasn't the first dragonrider sent at a pregnant woman's request.
N'vanik arrived almost a candlemark later with a bundle of
well-wrapped food.
During the candlemark, Orlaith had managed to get Rhosyn a quick nap.
When she felt her dragon's stirring at Loseth's arrival, she pulled herself
up in the bed though.
}:He brought you what you wanted:{ The queen sounded pleased with herself
and with Loseth.
**Tell Loseth thank you very much for his labors**
Orlaith did so then subsided as her rider thought about thanking the rider who
she could smell food on. "I think I'm going to break a few rules and
eat in my bed."
Gesturing with her hands, she let him know that he was welcome to join her.
She was in a simple gown and was well into pregnancy now, wearing maternity
clothes, though she wasn't ungainly yet. "Thank you very very much."
Just the smell made her happy.
N'vanik started to unwrap the package and sat on the edge of the bed.
"I'd tease you about sending me on an errand, but I want the little
guy to eat well." The first thing freed from the wrapping was a bubbly
pie. He passed it to Rhosyn. "And I want you to be happy." He knew
she didn't want to be pregnant so he wanted to help make this easier
for her.
"I don't know. It's weird. I didn't understand it myself until I woke up in the
early morning and suddenly wanted sweet crackers so bad with pepper butter
on them..." She would never eat half of these things normally. Now, she wanted
them. "And anyway, it's nice to see you." She wiggled her toes, judging her feet
to be a bit larger, frowning at that as she ate the bubbly. "What if it isn't a guy?"
"The baby?" He paused in the middle of unwrapping the next thing.
"Well, I guess I shouldn't assume. Boy or girl, it doesn't matter."
Like many men, he wanted a son, but he didn't feel strongly about it.
"And what would you name him or her?" This was something she had been
thinking about. Even though she wouldn't raise the child, she would choose its name.
That one thing would always mark it as hers.
"I'm not really good with names. Do you have any ideas?" He'd been
thinking about it at odd moments, wondering how to combine their
names.
"It'll depend on if it's a boy or girl but I really like Vanis or even Rhavyn
for a girl. For a boy, I don't know. Most of what I come up with doesn't sound
too good." She frowned, spouting off a few under her breath.
"We don't have the easiest names for combinations," he said with a
slight laugh. He kept unwrapping food while he thought. "Syvan?"
"Maybe....or we could just do one of those ridiculously long things, hoping
it gets elided later. Pulling one of the parcels to her, she sat back and then
gave a soft noise. "It's moving."
His breath caught in his throat. "Can I feel it?"
She nodded and pulled him near, placing his hand where the movement was.
The baby would become more active in the coming months, she had been told.
Still, it was like a reminder that something was inside there when it started to
press.
"Oh, wow. There it is." He felt the shifting in her belly. It made it
all seem more real. The baby wasn't just an abstract thought, but a
living, moving thing. It hurt that he'd missed all this with Cosani.
"Whenever it's done, I'm going to have to put some of the cream the healers
gave me on there. Otherwise, it itches." Indeed, she was trying to
prevent stretch marks if she could.
"I'll go get it in a minute," he said absently. N'vanik leaned closer
to her stomach, wondering if the little one could feel anything in
there.
"It can hear you. They say to talk to them so I do sometimes." Admittedly,
Rhosyn talked enough anyway so the baby heard enough of her voice.
"Hello little guy." Part of him felt odd talking to her belly but he
liked the idea of the baby hearing him. "I can't wait to see you."
As he spoke to the baby, Rhosyn started to eat again, munching quietly.
She felt the movement finally subside, though she liked to think the
little person was listening. She could wait for them to come, though a part
of her just wanted it to be over. She was tired of having to overbalance and
not being able to bend over easily. Still, she'd never say that out loud.
He looked so happy. "I get tired more now, but Reeva says that's normal."
"Are you getting enough rest?" he asked, leaning back.
"I don't know what enough is really. I mean, it's not like I can just sit
around and do nothing. I have to get my work done. I do try and take naps,
though. With Solieira sending me candidates to help, I can get things done a
bit quicker which also makes it easier." She had no hesitation in using the
extra labor. "The only problem comes when it wakes me up in the middle of
the night. Reeva says they do that once they're born too."
N'vanik laughed. "I've heard that, too. But you won't have to worry
about that for too long. That'll be the fostermother's problem."
"Aye and Briata is used to it anyway I suppose so no problem there. I only
feel sorrow for Y'gel." Maybe she didn't really feel that sorry. They had agreed
to the duty after all.
"I'm glad our little one will have those two for foster parents. And
that he -- or she-- will have a big brother." He only wished he lived
closer so the time difference wasn't such a pain.
"Well I'm glad I don't feel so hungry anymore. All this eating is tiresome
sometimes you know. I feel like my mouth never closes. I'm going to be as
big as Orlaith." Snorting, she bit off a piece of pie. "Hey was there a bit of
meat porridge in there?"
