Bahji sighed softly, stroking Burst as he nestled close to her neck. The
little bronze had grown far more protective over the last few days and it
was becoming an effort for her to convince him to allow anyone he considered
a stranger to get more than a few paces close to her. She appreciated it to
a degree, but his bluster wore the young flit out more often than not. She
smiled at the thought of him puffing up his chest in challenge at her mother?s
arrival; all it had taken, apparently, was her mother to look at him before
he quailed and hid beneath the covers.

Her mother slept now; the healers had insisted that she take a break in
Bahji's small quarters. She worried for her mother, but knew soon
enough that her mother would return.

Instead of her mother, though, it was another mother. This one was clearly
pregnant, though not ungainly or anything so large yet. Rhosyn was also
dressed in wherhide pants and tunic which said the Weyrwoman had been
flying. After speaking with the healers to make sure it was okay to see the
girl, she had approached the bedchamber where Bahji was in the infirmary. It
was her duty to visit the sick, so it wasn't unusual. "Bahji, are you
awake?" she asked softly before coming closer.

Bahji's head immediately turned to the voice recognizing it almost
immediately. "Weyrwoman?" She spoke softly, her brow knitting. She
carefully settled the sleepy bronze to her pillow and struggled for a
moment to sit up. She managed after only a moment, holding her injured arm
close to her sore side. "I'm awake."

"Shhh you don't have to move. I know it probably hurts. I just wanted to see
how you were. Are you being taken care of?" She wondered if anyone had told
Bahji what happened yet.

"It's okay." It did hurt, but she'd rather move around, at least a little.
She was tired of laying down; she was used to being active, but with a
broken ankle and sore side and head, the Healers were insistent that she
remain in bed for at least a few seven days to heal. "Yes, I am. Reeva has
been very kind." She frowned. "But I feel stupid." She sighed. "I haven't
been so clumsy in Turns."

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about." Rhosyn took a seat slowly and
settled. "You weren't clumsy, Bahji. You tripped. On a rope."

"I know I tripped." Her brow furrowed. "I didn't pay close enough attention.
Things get left behind and my mind was elsewhere." She shifted slightly,
uncertain as to what Rhosyn was trying to say.

"No. Someone wanted you to trip. They put the rope there." She didn't want
to scare her, but she needed to understand just what had happened so she
could take steps to be safer. "Was there ever a rope there before when you walked
there?" **I hope she's quick**

Bahji blinked and her face went pale. "There was never a rope before.
The stairs were always clear." She swallowed, placing a trembling hand
on her abdomen, the fingers curling. "Someone did that to me? Made me
trip? On purpose?" She shook her head, not wanting to believe what
Rhosyn was insinuating. "Why? Why would anyone want to do that?" It
was difficult to process. She had been blaming herself for what she
thought was her own clumsiness, for the loss of her pregnancy. To
think otherwise, to think that someone else actually purposefully
caused it was an utter shock. Her voice was a whisper. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure. The why...that's what I wanted to ask you. Is there anyone...think
hard-you've ever had a bad interaction with since coming to the Weyr." No
one else had seemed to know anything so hopefully the girl did.

"I've gotten along with pretty much everyone..." Her voice trailed off as
she tried to think of anyone who might want to hurt her or hate her that
much. She couldn't think of anyone who she would call an enemy. She had
friends here, for Faranth's sake. She'd never had a cross word with
anyone! She stopped and frowned. "Well...it may be nothing, but the only
argument I've gotten into was in the infirmary. There was a girl there that
was rude and a bit nasty, but I don't think I caught her name and it was a
month ago. I didn't think it was that large of an issue. " She sucked on her
lower lip. "I don't see an argument as starting something so..so..horrible."

Obviously Rhosyn couldn't ask what she looked like. Sighing, she tried to
take another tack. "Who else was there that I can ask about it?"

Bahji blinked and scratched at Burst. "Lokkun was there. A nice young man
who helped me get some tea for my..." Her voice trailed off and she
swallowed, closing her eyes as she licked her lips. She took another
breath, but her voice was shaky. "The girl was about my height and had a
husky voice. She insulted Lokkun when he defended me. She made insinuations,
but I thought it was just a bad day for her."

"Hmmmm...." That could be several girls. "If you heard her voice again,
would you recognize it?" An important question even as Rhosyn filed away
this Lokkun name.

She lived by recognizing voices. "Yes, of course. It was soft, kind of
husky." She paused and then sucked in her lower lip. "She did say something
awful. Maybe it's not important, maybe it is but..." She swallowed. "She
said something about not being able to believe they were letting me breed.
Something about populating the Weyr with the helpless and the hopeless."

That was a cruel remark. Perhaps made by someone just as cruel. "Listen, I
am going to go talk to this Lokkun fellow. Nothing may come of it
but...we'll? see. Till then, you will have someone with you that can
be trusted. And please, if you ever feel uncomfortable, let Reeva know.
I'm going to get to the bottom of this." She was determined. That was a
bad thing for whoever it was that had done the deed.

"My mother is here. She's resting now, but she'd protect me from a charging
wher." Bahji sighed softly. "Rhosyn...may I ask you a question?"

**Her mother is here. Perhaps I can ask her about her father then.**
"Sure." She found herself turning toward Bahji without thinking about it.

"Why did...why did no one tell me before you? Why did they let me think it
was all my fault? That I was just clumsy?" Her eyes finally watered; she had
been strong throughout the entire conversation and could no longer hold it
in. "Why would they do that? Why would they let me blame myself like that?"
**Why didn't _he_ tell me?**

"Well to be honest, there could be several reasons. The healers may not have
wanted to further upset you. Some people wouldn't react very well to the
news of losing a child and the fact that maybe you are still in further
danger. Or it might have been the fact that we haven't found the person yet.
Or even that we? still do not have definitive proof per se. No one saw what
happened." Still, Rhosyn? trusted Reeva's report.

"I'm still in danger?" Bahji's eyes closed and she turned her face away. She
was tired and she didn't want to believe that someone, whoever it was,
wanted to hurt her so badly. She knew it was possible, but to be faced with
it so blatantly, she felt her openness to others had been nothing but
naivete. She sighed. "I understand."

"We're doing all we can to get the matter taken care of. In the meantime,
though, the healers have been watching carefully to make sure you are
allright." She wanted to stress that. Now that they knew there was danger, they were
vigilant.

She just nodded slowly. "When can I leave the infirmary?"

"That's not a question for me. You'll have to ask Reeva that one." She did
not step on the healer's toes. Rhosyn respected craft autonomy and also knew
better than to stick herself into something she knew nothing about. "I'm
going to leave now, so I can find this Lokkun person. Rest and know that I
will not abide people hurting others in my Weyr." That last bit was ground
out as Rhosyn stood up, readying to leave.

"Alright. I'll ask her." She closed her eyes, wanting nothing else
but to rest. She didn't want to think about this any more.
