Description: Milga helps Naton out and gets herself an extra bubbly in return!
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 3, day 5 of Turn 7
Naton was sitting at a large table in the meeting room, knowing it wasn't
being used for the day and preferring the space it offered for his current
task. He was copying a detailed illustration and description of his device,
to send out to the various dolphineers across the continent, asking them if
they were interested in participating in his trials. He had grown
increasingly frustrated with the time the task was taking up, when he
suddenly remembered there was someone he could easily ask for help. He had
immediately sent a passing apprentice with a note to Milga, asking if she
had some free time to help him out in the meeting room.
Milga had just come from jogging and had stopped to strech her legs when
she got word from fellow apprentice that Naton wanted to see her. She
hurried to the meeting room. "Hi, journeyman Naton. I heard you asked for
me?"
Naton looked up curiously, Milga looked like she had been running. "Milga!
Do come in," he waved her in with a smile. "Yes, I did. I was wondering if
you could help me copy these letters, but only if you have the time!"
"I have now," Milga said. "I'm just done with my exercise."
"Great, you're a lifesafer, girl," Naton smiled, gesturing her to come look
at the papers spread out on the table. "I'm writing to fellow Dolphineers
across the continent, to see if they would like to help me out by testing
my device. I've got this letter explaining how it works and asking them if
they want to participate and I've got this illustration of it. Would you
mind copying the letters so I can continue on reproducing the drawing?"
"Sure," Milga nodded and pulled herself a chair. She wasn't very good at
writing, but at least she only needed to copy text someone else had
written. That was easy, she just had to be careful to get all letters
copied. Taking pen and empty hide, she set to work, making sure to use her
best handwriting.
"How is everything going with you at the moment?" Naton asked
conversationally as he drew another line across his paper.
"Just shipshape, "Milga replied absently, concentrating to her copying.
Naton smiled, realising Milga probably needed to focus and returned to his
own work silently. After a while of working quietly, he looked up again to
check on her. "Is it working out over there?"
"Yes," she leaned backwards and streched her fingers, placing the finished
sheets to a pile. She gave the journeyman a grin.
Naton reached for one of the letters and glanced it over. "It looks superb,
miss," he smiled at her. "You've been working hard on your writing, haven't
you?"
"I have. I don't want to fail to walk the tables just because harpers only
visited our hold once or twice in a Turn," Milga said. She was ambitious.
"Well, at this rate, I can see nothing holding you back," Naton smiled, a
thoughtful look crossing his face for a moment. "How many turns have you
again, Milga?"
"I'm thirteen, althoug I'll have a birthday in three months," Milga replied.
"Plenty of time then," Naton smiled. "By the time you reach journeyman
rank, no one will notice you had fewer lessons growing up."
"That's my aim," Milga admitted.
"Well, if there is ever anything I can do for you, all you have to do is
ask. You've surely helped me a great deal today," Naton smiled. Of course
he could have picked another apprentice for the writing task, but he had
figured it would do Milga's confidence some good to be asked. And she
hadn't let him down.
"I'll remember that," she said with a little smile. It was felt nice to be
trusted with special jobs like this.
"Good. And for now, I'll just ask Jylanya if she can spare you an extra
bubbly tonight," Naton winked cheerfully.
"Oh, thank you!" Milga was delighted and her eyes sparkled.
"No thanks, you earned it fair and square," Naton grinned. "Now go and
enjoy some free time before dinner, I don't want to take up all your time!"
"Yes, sir!" Milga jumped up.
