Description: The Queens' Wing flies Fall with a pregnant Wingleader.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 10 of Turn 7
After finding out from the dolphins what was happening, Rhosyn had
made sure from the healers that it was okay to fly. The Weyrwoman had
done her usual preflight check and was in leathers that might be a
little snug, but otherwise there was no real difference. If anything,
she was probably the safest pregnant woman in the Weyr. Not only would
no one ever want the senior queen to be in danger, but Orlaith was the
largest dragon and could easily accommodate the comfort of her small
rider, extra weight or no.
With the wing organized and waiting with the others, she waited for
the signal to go. They would go last, of course. Her flamethrower was
full and there was an extra tank loaded in her harness. }:We will
fight today:{ It had been so long and she was ready.
Lenala was tugging loose strand back under the helmet. They tended
to slip out, no matter what she did. She glanced Rhosyn, feeling
concerned of her. Was it wise to fly Fall in her condition? Although
she did appreciate the break from leading the wing.
Ciara sat in her position on the floor of the Weyrbowl awaiting the
command to launch. She had several bags of firestone ready and trusted
Elianith to call for it when she needed.
After all the other wings had risen and gone /between/ Rhosyn gave the
signal for her wing to rise and disappear, following Orlaith's image. They
would come out below the others, waiting for the Leading Edge to come.
**It's good to fly. And I feel like burning stuff**
}:I wonder if that is how it feels to flame. I should ask Nikornath:{
Vilarth followed Orlaith, grumbling. During Orlaith's absence she was
used to leading position and didn't like to be pushed back to
'Second's. She had more ambition than her rider.
** Be a good girl,** Lenala chided her gently.
Ciara personally didn't think their Weyrwoman should be flying
Fall in her condition but that was between her and Kes. Or rather she
imagined Kes just let her have her head as he usually seemed to do. At
least she knew there was no danger of her losing him to the
Weyrwoman. Following the rest of the wing into the air she waited for
Ellianith to turn her head for stone.
And then it came so the first few dragons on point began to char. Rhosyn
looked up, her flamethrower at the ready, as Orlaith began to fly instead of
hovering, following the others above her across the sky with her wing laid
out behind her. }:Look alive! It comes!:{
** Stay sharp,** Lenala reminded when they reached the leading
edge.
}: Always :{, Vilarth replied, focusing the task at hand. Both
concentrated to their job, trusting everyone else doing their
own parts.
Ellianith chewed and watched the sky. Soon she found a stray clump and
flamed it before it could come Near Vilarth. fortunately for them at
this level there were far fewer clumps and strands floating down.
It was mostly ash from the higher wings which meant they'd be covered
covered with char by the time the Fall was over. She fell back into
position and continued to watch the skies.
Things went rather uneventfully after that until midway through fall. It seemed
that a blue had been scored. }:Vilarth, you can catch him! We will get the clump:{
Because just at that moment as the blue fell, a thread clump had come
down through the wings above. Orlaith headed for it as Rhosyn prepared
her flamethrower. Trusting Vilarth to get the dragon, they were under the
thread when the tank let loose a burst of flame. **CHAR THAT!**
}: On it! :{ Vilarth replied, breaking out of formation and gaining
speed and height to reach the falling blue. Lenala braced herself when
Vilarth reached the blue, turning sharply to position herself to catch
him. There was a bone jarring thud when the blue and gold connected.
Vilarth spread her large wings, bracing against the impact, slowing
their fall. Lenala turned to look at the rider and dragon. She spotted
something silvery writhing on the hide of the blue. A strand was
reaching out towards Vilarth's golden hide. "Shardit! Live Thread!
Between now!" Lenala shrieked. She pictured the Weyr bowl and dragon
infirmary's entrance just as the darkness of /between/ engulfed them.
Ciara and Ellianith watched both events and went in the opposite
direction from Rhosyn to pick up another patch. "I got it," she
waved off the blue chasing it down the sky.
Rhosyn heard the sound, but she didn't have time to investigate. She trusted
Lenala to handle the situation even as she continued to handle the Wing. Now,
with her Second gone, she was the one coordinating the Wing and responding
to the requests of the other Wingleaders. Taking her place once again in the
center, she was the bulwark for all of them, trusting Orlaith's eyes more than
her own to spot the Thread before it came down on top of them.
}:Reform! Tighter!:{ The wind was getting a bit more rough and she couldn't
have them all over the sky.
