N'vanik

N'vanik

Unease settled in his stomach as N'vanik came out over River Bluff
Weyr. He was worried about Rhosyn lying to him, keeping things from
him. With a baby involved it would drive him mad. How was he supposed
to deal with this woman?

}:We're here my lovely.:{ Loseth was in a much better mood than his
rider, pleased at the chance to visit Orlaith.

The heavy gold was on the heights surveying her demesne when
Loseth appeared. No longer watching eggs, she was enjoying the sun and the
freedom she had. Now that Rhosyn knew how far along she was and that it was
safe to fly again for awhile, Orlaith was active again and it showed.
}:You are welcome:{

The Weyrwoman was actually down in the Weyrlake treading water. It was an easier
form of exercise than running, which she couldn't really do for very long. Her belly was
pronounced and her movements were different, but her copper hair wasn't hard to spot
as it glinted in the sun.

Loseth dropped off his rider and went to join Orlaith. N'vanik shook
his head in amusement as he watched his dragon fly off. At least
someone was happy. He stepped up to the edge of the Weyrlake. "Hey."

Turning around to face him, she nodded and gave him a soft look,
though it wasn't quite as welcome as it once might have been.
Despite herself, though, Rhosyn couldn't help but admire his form and knew
what other women who flirted saw. And she *knew* what it could feel like.
"Want to come in for a swim?"

"I want to talk."

"Okay." She headed out slowly, then grabbed up a towel to throw around
her soaking wet tunic. "Can we talk here or do I need to get dry?" If they were
staying outside, she would rather stay wet. It was hot enough by far. And then with
the extra weight, she felt like she was always roasting.

He noticed her breasts beneath the tunic, and then he noticed her
stomach. It definitely had more of a curve. He'd seen plenty of
pregnant women before, but not one that was pregnant with _his_ child.

Possible child. "Here is fine." He sighed. "I want to be with you on
this, Rhosyn. I want to be here for you. But I need you to be honest
and open with me. No hiding things, especially about your health. If
something is wrong _tell me_. Don't brush me off."

"Fair enough. Reeva's going to take care of me so I'll tell her if
there's something you want to know, she can tell you. Hopefully, there won't
be any problems." If she said it enough, maybe she could will it to be so.
A frisson of fear went through her as she considered it, but she pushed it
away. Being a coward was not her style and she couldn't be-even though this
was the one thing she couldn't face alone. "I went to see a dolphin and
even though I'm not absolutely sure yet, from what the man said...I think
you're a safer bet."

"Oh." He'd already been acting as if it was probably his, but it was
still surprising to hear. "The Gather," he said quietly. Things had
been different then. He missed it, even if he could barely admit it to
himself.

"Umhmm," she confirmed, slipping her feet into some sandals. She was watching
him carefully. K'sedel had plenty of children, one more would be no great thing.
For N'vanik though, it was entirely different. Rhosyn was secretly happy that she
could do this for him, despite what it was doing to her.

He sighed and took a few steps away. "I wish I could be happy about
this, but I keep thinking about how you hurt me. I'm worried you'll do
it again. With a baby involved ... it's a sharding mess."

"I think you count it a great hurt because of what was done to you
before by others. As you know, I never intentionally wanted to
make you feel the way you do." In contrast with how she was usually,
Rhosyn was speaking about it calmly and quietly. Maybe she knew the baby
would feel her upset or maybe she wanted N'vanik to understand. "To
be honest, now it's your decision as to whether or not you can forgive
me of that hurt and move on or whether you'll continue to put it between
us. Because no matter what I do, it'll still come down to you." Without
thinking, she placed her hands upon her belly.

"And if it continues to hang there, it's very likely that it'll affect
whatever relationship you have with the baby coming. They tell me kids
pick up on those sorts of things." Unlike most of the Weyrfolk, Rhosyn
had had two parents and a happy home before her father's death
and she remembered what damage that had done when they had all been separated. "I'm not
telling you what to do or what to think, but I am sorry that you feel the way you do. No matter
what you think, I do love you." **And I might even love this baby more if it were
yours**

"Then _let me in_. Don't be sorry that I feel bad, be sorry that
you hurt me. It doesn't matter if you didn't mean to." He ran a
hand through his hair. "I want an apology. I want you to mean it."

She walked up next to him, though it was more awkward to get close
because of that belly between them and it took her a bit to adjust to it.
Reaching her hands up high to his chest, she pulled her head back to see
into his eyes. "I am letting you in. Since then, I've not shut my door to you
once. When I knew about this, you knew about this." He was so close and
she could feel her body remembering. It was like waking up after a long sleep.
"I do mean it."

Her voice turned husky and her eyes changed just slightly. It might
have been the heat, but then the evidence was obvious even with the wet
tunic. **I wonder what he would think if he knew I dreamed about him when he
isn't here?**

}:The hatchling is making mine want to mate:{ Orlaith passed onto Loseth, not
at all sure about how that worked. She didn't want to Fly when she had eggs on
the Sands. This was strange.

}:They do that? Humans are strange.:{ Loseth shifted a bit closer to the Queen.

He could see what she wanted, but he wasn't going to get sucked in.
"Say the words." It was almost a plea.

}:And not just that. It makes her gullet burn and then she's hungry
again:{ Orlaith did get hungry when her belly was full of eggs so that she understood.
Content for the moment to be up against the bronze, she subsided and brought her head back
down to rest.

"I'm sorry N'vanik that I hurt you." Her tongue slipped out just a bit
to moisten her lips after she finished speaking. "Fair's fair. You hurt me
the day you told me to leave."

"I'm sorry." Relief made his words low and soft. He traced a thumb
along her cheek, but instead of kissing her, he pulled her into a hug.
Not too tight, being careful of the baby. His clothes got wet, but he
didn't care.

Accepting it, though she knew she wanted more, Rhosyn was quiet for
a moment, not moving. "Can we go in and eat now? I'm starving. And I
wanted to say I'm sorry about the Flight over there. If you need help..."
As always, she was ready to stand behind him if he needed it.

"Thanks." He brushed her hair aside and pressed a kiss to her
forehead. N'vanik wasn't quite ready to give her more, the tension
was still leaking out of him. "I already ate, but you can eat and we
can talk some more."
